Why exactly did carter kill himself?

So a thought just popped up in my mind. Why did carter kill himself just to destroy ONE scarab? So he had a few plasma burns and his pelican was a bit banged up, those can be fixed! He could have used a first aid kit or Biofoam if they were available on the pelican and he could have just abandoned the pelican all together. The Chief took out about 4 scarabs BY HIMSELF without dying… He took one head on in New Mombasa killed the entire crew, took out the one in Voi AND took out TWO while in a hornet without bothering to get out (if you used that method xD). So was it necessary for Carter to go out jihad style when all he had to do was shoot the back of it or any other weak spot? I think not.

he had a hole going straight through his chest, and the scarab was getting ready to shoot at Emile and Noble 6, so he risked his life to make sure the objective was completed.

It was better than watching the banshees kill him.

BTW this belongs in the Campaign Forums.

Bungie wanted to make him look like a noble badass spartan.

For all intends and purposes, Carter was already dead. Spartan IIIs are conditioned to keep on going for a little while even once they’re sustained lethal injuries. And with that large whole in his chest, Carter was mortally wounded.

He just found out that his whole life was uncannon

I’ve heard of a man who was shot 32 times and survived. Carter didn’t have to die. He chose too.

Which is why he acted more like a cruise missile. =D

> I’ve heard of a man who was shot 32 times and survived. Carter didn’t have to die. He chose too.

That implies that everyone who dies of less than 33 bullet wounds chose to die.

I’m sorry, but if a genetically enhanced supersoldier can’t survive a few bullet wounds, then how are they any different from a regular marine?

Because a Scarab with the highground versus two Spartans with small arms in a narrow choke means a very crispy end to a very important package.

We also have no idea the extent of Carter’s injuries.

They’re humans in a super suit lol, I would think they would take gunshots as bad as anyone else. if not that shot still looked very lethal, probably went straight through his lung

Genetically enhanced humans in a super suit. They were created to be able to take more bullets than a regular person.

And they do. A normal human being would have died instantly from a plasma bolt tearing through its chest. Carter didn’t, and he didn’t even pass out.

People have to realise that the massive damage you can sustain over time when playing as Master Chief is completely exaggerated and utterly non-canon. It’s just a compromise that had to be made for the sake of gameplay.

good point, but im pretty sure he got shot in the lung, im not 100% on that but that would be a fatal shot to anyone, maybe because he is a genetically modified human he didnt die immediately, either way he died to have Noble 6 and Emile complete the objective

He might have been so injured he could not get up to get out

I don’t understand this either. Noble six is hyper-lethal, the same rating as Master Chief, so he could have taken out the Scarab by himself if he wanted to. Carter and Emile could have at least distracted it.
