Why Everyone Hates the Updates

I think that the reason people hate all the updates is that they only think about new maps and game modes. They never think about all the other improvements they put into custom games sand box etc

well glitch fixes and improvements are not seen as something that should be apart of the “update” they are seen and maintenance. The updates were suppose to take the place of paid DLC so people want content. It seems the last couple of the free updates are providing actual content that many are enjoying. So hopefully there will be a more positive reception to the next couple

I think a big part was people felt a lot of this content should have been included when the game was released, so the updates don’t provide anything “new”, just things that “should have” been there to begin with.

Uhhhh did you read the patch notes?

I did and I don’t have, and have never had, any issue with what the updates give us. I am just speaking from what I have read on other forum topics.

People get used to the game as it was then WHAM bad guy 343 changes things. Now some guns are weaker and they are getting killed by other guns that never used to. Now they have to learn new maps and their K/D will probably get lower until they get used to things.

So they will complain about the changes saying it’s not fair.

Its the internet, it was made for -Yoink- and hating.

My only problem is that these free “updates” should have been here IN THE BEGINNING.

That is not at all what it is about. 343i gutted most of the content out of this game in favor of developing Warzone. Leading to a game that had less maps, game modes, and game types than Combat Evolved. So when 343i is including content that was in older games as a part of their free updates system, you bet your limited edition copy of Halo 5 that people are going to be upset. The way 343i marketed these updates, they were supposed to replace paid DLC. None of the game types and modes that are being re-released in these updates should count towards the Free DLC that 343i is working on. Same with Forged Maps and Remixed maps.

So you just made a ginormous generalization. There are the ones who complain for the sake of complaining, but for the most part, people are making constructive criticism, which may be a little too emotional. Give them a break, they have been waiting for a decent Halo game to come out with all of the features that should be expected from a Halo game.

Yeah. And what’s with 343i actually making me pay $60 for their game, they should have given me money to take it. Also they could have at least offered me a ferrari. They have no idea how to run a business.

so every map that is not forge should have been there in the beginning? every mode (that needed balancing) should have been there. They were given a time to get the game done by, once that date is set content gets cut, removed, delayed, it happens whether you like it or not.

Bungie had the same amount of time, most likely had less money, and they made the most successful Halo to date with that amount of time, and it had more maps than Halo 5. And they were not lazy remixes.

True

things change - hate on it
things stay the same - hate on it

  • Recycled maps - New Badly designed armours - Cut game modes - Visors with almost no difference - Emblems - Butchering of classic armours Decimator and MK 5 being the most notableThese are the 6 reasons that seem to come up each update.

Still waiting for someone to actually have a decent answer to that, besides “Well, look at Destiny.”

so far so good except for one thing, the ultra rare armor mod Upgraded Thrusters has been changed. Your shields no longer recharge while running even though it worked literally yesterday.

why?

I don’t hate the updates. You don’t speak for me.

OK I will make an attempt.

All the past halos (excluding 4 and reach) were extremely simple in design. You had one base speed and movement option and honestly the weapon balance was terrible (BR beats all basically) Maps were easier to create do to the fact that less had to be considered when it came to possible options a player to commit. Balancing the movement options for 5 took alot of time and creating and balancing maps thats would accommodate these maps did as well. This could possibly explain why there are remixes, the basic structure was there and the map could be tweaked slightly allowing for a different experience with the same accommodation for the movement options.

Now weapon balance was obviously an important feature when it came to the development of halo 5 and I would argue that its has one of the best balanced weapon system in modern shooters. Having to tweak existing weapons as well as news weapons to accomidate other weapons and movement options consist of constant trial and error.

Three barely differentiated itself from two (though that BR was absolute crap compared to its predecessor) so the balance system was basically in place which allowed for many maps and content to be worked on instead. Now reach attempted to alter this intitial balance while providing alot of content. What did we get? Alot of maps and content but with the worst balanced halo to ever exist. The abilities were broken as well as the weapon system. Was it still fun? Sure but it still suffered.

Halo 5 decided to focus on getting the mechanics down before the content was released which could explain why it was so fine tuned yet lacked content. What I am expecting to see is for Halo 6 to be a nice synthesis of mechanics and content.

Now of course this is all speculation, I have no knowledge of the priorities 343 is internally making. I am merely making a possible response based on some observations and experiances with the halo products. Feel free to disagree.

Very good argument. I agree 100%.

Yet that is why Halo got so far. It was a simple FPS that was still competitive. There was no need for any of the gimmicks they have added or revamped since 343 came into the picture.

You also make it sound like the simplicity was bad. Plus, 343’s maps they have released are some of the most simplistic maps I have ever seen in Halo.

Yet with all of these “good” changes, Halo has sold less and has less players.
