I really feel like the Quit Button/Option should just be removed from the start menu.
I played a little Killer Instinct on the Xbox One when Halo MCC was broken. Just to mention, that game really is pretty neat and i recommend giving it a try. But a detail that i really like about its matchmaking system is that it doesn’t even give the option to quit. And there really isn’t a good reason to leave the option to quit in game. It obviously wouldn’t get rid of quitting as a whole by any means, but i think its obvious it would help lessen its occurrence. Tab, Quit, reboot, and search game isn’t something a ton of these quitters would be doing regularly.
I don’t think it would prevent people from accepting game invites that pull one out of the game one is currently playing, but that is fine. Most of the time people quit it seems like its some no mic kids who aren’t doing so well so they just drop it. That is the kind of stuff it would effect (should i say “affect?”). And I think that would be a good thing.
Please remove the option to quit from Arena/Ranked 343!
What if somebody HAD to quit instead of WANTING to quit? Press the home button straight? I think said person would much rather quit properly than jump straight to the home screen or just turn off the console.
It’s all about having options. That’s why banning for quitting too much is in place.

Yeah, I agree with that. Some people will HAVE to quit. And they can still Tab+Quit. No difference at all. Right now to leave early the process is: Start-Quit-Are you sure?-Yes. Without it, it will be: Tab-Start-Quit. No difference in effort. Removing the Quit Option from Arena/Ranked will not effect people who HAVE to quit. It will effect the people who don’t.
It would be helpful from preventing people from just leaving and rejoining a game (for which bans seem to be sporadic).
If someone really had to go though, they might just leave their character afk in the match. The only thing worse than being down players is having one respawning for 10+ free kills.
EDIT: Also a 1 v1 fighting game works a bit differently. If one player leaves, the other just gets a win and can easily move on to the next fight. They’re not on a team stuck at a disadvantage for the next 10 minutes. Its hard to compare the two directly.
The quit/leave button I’d there for a reason. When stuff happens out of the blue then ima quit or leave. I don’t want to but life comes first. Seriously do you want me to just ask and give the enemy team free kills until it kicks me? -.- come on guys seriously.
Why even play a match when you have to go somewhere, there’s a big possibility that you won’t be able to finish, and quit? That’s still inconveniencing your team by detracting them by one player. Why start a match that you cannot finish?
Take it out, leave it in. It won’t have any effect (used here as a noun - you used it as a verb, which is indeed “affect”) on anything. It’s 2015 and people will come and go as they please.

No, no, no. I get your concern, but you have to walk it through. If someone really has to go, they just shut of thier Xbox or tab out. In that sense quitting the game is still just as quick as the process of: Press Start-Select Quit - Are you sure? - Yes. Tabbing and quitting the game is just as short. The only thing it affects is how quick one can RETURN to the game. So if someone had to go, they have to go. There is no stopping that. That will happen to all of us. What it will stop is the people who quit out just becuase things aren’t going there way so they abandon matches and start up new ones. Removing the quit option makes it inconvenient for them. Adding the quit option doesn’t make it ANY more convenient. (Again, you can always tab/quit and power off…)
And I have to say your not understanding the motivations for quitting. People aren’t always doing it because they have somewhere to be lol. They are doing it because they are salty. This is the ONLY people it will affect. If somebody has to go for 10minutes like you said. Why wouldn’t they tab out? Why would they not quit the game via tab?
And a very common scenario is a player is getting owned. He is salty so he abandons match. Then I have a 3v4 industries match and I begin to slowly get dumped on as I’m outnumbered. And by the end we are all now statistcally getting owned b/c rather than them just killing the afk guy for several minutes, they are teamshotting us. People quit when they are losing generally. I’d rather let them take out their kills on the AFK guy then me…

Dude, you can press the tab button. That will bring you to what is called the “home screen” i believe. When here you can select games you have purchased or downloaded and “Quit” them via the start button. Look at that! You quit the game with the start button! Huh, its like quitting is just as easy as using the in game option to Quit.
So if its just as easy to quit via the Tab screen would this really be helping anything? Yes! you noobs! Because it makes rejoining the match slow and inconvenient. People won’t be quitting like this willy nilly. Removing the quit option will deter the arbitrary quitter. Its hard to argue with that. It won’t deter the people who HAVE to quit because of a personal interruption that the player had to handle.

Like some people have said, life happens. Maybe I get a call and I have to go. Maybe my roommate is locked out of the apartment building and I have to go get him, maybe literally anything I deem important comes up and I have to go for a few minutes, but not necessarily shut down the game entirely.

I’m guessing you don’t have kids. Things happen that aren’t planned but I don’t think I’ve quit a match in years.
If the JIP programming works on the quit button in-game then it’s a must.

> Sorry, I couldn’t resist being “that” guy but OP is right in using effect in that context.
Guys, no one is reading the thread. I’ve addressed all this stuff. I don’t mean to be rude, but y’all aren’t thinking it through to its conclusion. These examples being given: roommate locked out or whatever, they are all irrelevant. You can still quit the game with Tab-Start-Quit. If you have to go take care of important business nothing is stopping you guys here lol. Removing the in-game Quit option doesn’t prevent you from helping your roommates.
I’ll state it plainly one more time: You guys can still quit the game with the Xbox One’s tab button. Once at Home Screen you can select the game with start and “Quit” it. It takes literally just as long as the in game quit option just.
People are usually quitting because they are getting whoooped. When I’m in matchmaking I doubt all these quitters have roommates locked out in the cold fellas. They are leaving because they don’t give a darn.
