Why enemy can see me before appearing on screen...

First things first: i played all the past Halos, i’m pretty experienced in how the past iteration of this game worked.

Now, with Halo 5, multiplayer is a total mess when playing with people from other countries and i really don’t know why, here an example:

  • I want to play FFA - Start searching with focused or balanced - “Not enough player in this playlist” message appear - switch to expanded - game found in less than 30 secondEnter the match, it lags a bit (just fine, i’m used to it from the other Halos and i always survived)

  • There is a small frag delay, used to it no problems - Then i find an opponent, he destroys me without a single chance to fight back - I find another one, happens the same - etc. After playing many matches (and don’t say “Get good / you have to learn H5 mechanics” because i used to be onyx in the past season almost everywhere) i realized what the real problem is: people nearer to servers have not only a more reliable hit detection (as always in other halos with the host and people nearer to him) but they can literally see you in advance before even appearing on your screen, starting always 1/2 shots in advance and making impossible to counter attack.

Now, thinking about that this can be normal: they are nearer to servers so everything is faster for them than for me, right?
Than why on God’s earth i never noticed a thing like that (people seeing you first) in the past 10 years of halo multiplayer playing, on p2p systems affected by the most orrible lag?
Why can i see this behaviour only with dedis introduction and why this never happened on other games’ dedis i tried like Titanfall, Destiny and others?

I experienced all the lag of this world but i never played a game where the enemy could see other players before even appearing on their screen.

Has anyone an answer? Why is this affecting only H5?

Do an ookla speed test and post the results here.

I’m far more interested in your ping. Ookla is free and this is what it looks like.

i have a 20 Mbps ADSL, very stable. in any case it’s irrelevant because it’s the same connection as always

My ping is good. During TF 2 beta i was able to have a 30ms ping to a Berlin server, to london or amsterdam datacenters i have a ping of 60/80 ms.

I’m in northern italy so, if i ping a nearer server with Speedtest, ad Milan, my ping is 12/13ms

In any case my situation, on connection side, is perfectly the same since 10 years so it’s absolutely not part of the problem.
And underline again that this never happens on TF or Destiny or in past halos on p2p systems.

I had poor hit detection, frag delay etc but never enemy seeing me before appearing on screen, never.

Go into your settings on the xbox. Go to Network make sure your NAT type says open. Choose the Detailed Test and see what you latency number is. Depending on your connection it should be low ( sweet spot 50ms give or take). If none of these are where they should be go to xbox live support. Give them a call and talk to a Tech. They can help you out, plus they get paid for it…lol

You just described every single Call of Duty game.
It’s just latency man.

Thanks for the help dude but i said my connection is fine.
I’m graduated in computer science, i’m the tech guy, my connection and modem setting are at their finest as always, is this game that has something wrong respect every other game on the earth and i would to know what it is, and why.

It’s the only game i give a sh*t on earth and it’s the only one having these problems, it’s frustrating

I played call of duty in the past on p2p systems, latency was worst than H5 but i coudn’t see this “you can see me first” thing. I would see it in a game when a single shot can kill you i think.

It’s down to not having regional server selection imo, if you’re getting connections to servers in the USA from Europe and vice versa you’ll get it a lot. Titanfall has servers all over Europe, it was 20ms to London from here in Scotland on the Titanfall 2 tech test, Halo should have this option too.

I hear ya… I’ve been in IT for 25+ years. Good field to get into… Job Security…lol. Latency as you must know is what your interested in not ping. Ping is one way… from you to the server. Latency is a round trip… from you to the server back to you. That’s why those brilliant engineers at MS put latency test in the xbox to help out their techies. Give MS support a call and they will walk you through everything to narrow down the problem. That’s your best bet. Not to mention it will save you from pulling out the remaining hair on your head…lol. Good luck!

I guess only Titanfall 2 can save my hair…
There’s one problem: Titanfall is not Halo… and halo 6 is way too far away…

This issue makes me mad…

It’s broken net code. COD has these issues since BO1.

Yeah, pretty much undeniable.

I still say it’s the lack of regional server selection, because it’s ok when you connect to a local server, and unplayable when you do not.

Sure, but I think netcode here has a big part in this mess…
Ok, connecting to an USA server can bring some latency, but in H5 when latency should be 150ms is worst than 500ms latency on H3 (I played tons of hours on that game)

There are huge server problems right now - I often find situations where an opponent will shoot their pistol far quicker than is actually possible. Finding games is also an absolute nightmare, although when I played on Friday I was finding them a bit quicker.

This… if I am not plugged straight into my modem I can’t play any cod… I can watch the kill can. The giyvwill come up stairs dance a big then shoot me… well not that bad. Lol.
Halo I can play fine on wifi. I have a 300 g line from brighthouse. And no it’s not nearly as good as you would think it is.
They use 3 channels to run the internet,to achieve those speeds. Is my understanding. 3 more chances of lag issues.
You can call bright house and have them change the channels it runs on to help fix lag

150 ms ? Is that what Halo 5 is now ? I’ll stick to Titanfall and 30 ms to 50 ms.
