OK, I’ve been seeing a lot of threads where people say how they feel about duel wielding, but none where anybody actually explains why it should be in the game. Hence this thread.
Firstly, I’ve been seeing a lot of people refering to duel wielding as a “useless gimmick”, sorry but that is utter crap. A gimmick is a marketing tool, which is usually irrelevent. An example of a gimmick would be armour customization as it doesn’t impact gameplay at all. Clearly, duel wielding does.
Secondly, there is a lot of depth to duel wielding, experimenting with different combos of weapons, to find out what works well, what doesn’t and then mastering firing the two different weapons independently.
A lot of people say duel wielding destroys the sandbox, again, not true. There are many ways to balance duel wielding so the weapons are still powerfull when single wielded. Halo 3/2 took away grenades and melee, however I’d say there should be a cooldown period between dropping your gun and bieng able to use either of those, to make duel wielding riskier.
Other ways to balance them would be removing zoom when duel wielded (for example, the single wield smg has a scope like in ODST, the duel wielded smg does not), increasing recoil (makes sense, one hand is on the gun, the gun will be less steady) and slowing RoF slightly. If all that somehow still hasn’t balanced the guns, decrease the damage output slightly when duel wielded just like in H2.
My final reason for duel wielding is simple. It’s fun. One of the biggest adrenaline rushes in video games for me personally, is bieng able to feel like a total badass while still bieng challenged.
The bottom line is duel wielding shouldn’t be removed because it was imbalanced. The potential is there for them to be balanced, and if past games are anything to go by they are a great addition to the Halo formula.
