Since Halo is all about skill and proving that you’re better than all of the other players at shooting and shooting only, how about, for Halo 4, we make the only weapon in matchmaking the utility? I mean, if it just fires completely straight, that would mean that everyone in the match would win by aim exclusively, and by no other criteria, since, after all, that is the only important aspect of an FPS (duh, they’re called first person SHOOTERS). If 343i does that, all of the truly good Halo players can enjoy the game without those annoying sucky players, and any noobs who don’t like it can go play CoD.
[EDIT] For those of you who haven’t figured it out already, yes, I am joking. I used a hyperbole to show my perspective to those who argue points similar to this. Of course it’s an exaggeration, because it’s the best way to show you all how those people sound to me. Perhaps it’s a bit scathing and perhaps I could have been a little less biased, as I, admittedly, do prefer playing games solely for fun and don’t really get into the competitive aspect of them, and as such don’t use utility weapons often, but I don’t think it deserves to be locked for “mocking the competitive players”, as some who I won’t name have suggested.
Call me an idiot for not understanding the importance of utility weapons as much as you want, because I honestly don’t care what you think of me if you’re the kind of person who rates intelligence by means of understanding of multiplayer video games. Otherwise, argue semantics amongst yourselves, because that’s the real reason I made this thread.
Seriously. I hate nothing more than AR starts in social.
Whoever controls the Brs/power weapons absolutely dominates the entire map. There’s absolutely nothing the other team can do. Why aren’t we given utility weapon spawns in every gametype? It’s really stupid.
For the most balanced gameplay, having the utility right off the bat is self-explanatory. Some games can be done if the utility was the only weapon on the map (besides grenades), but only on small maps. Zealot and Midship were all possible with just the utility.
Power weapons should still be present on other maps since it gives teams something to fight over and prevent slow, camping gameplay. Besides, you wouldn’t want the sniper to disappear would you? People make montages with that thing, and getting a clutch kill with it can easily swing balance.

Not necessarily.
In Reach, we spawn with a utility weapon and a redundant secondary. The utility weapon makes 60% of the sandbox worthless – 80% with ZB.
But what if we instead spawned with two niche weapons: a short-to-mid-range automatic (where burst-firing is needed to hit targets at mid-range), and a mid-to-long-range precision (that is ineffective at short range)? Together, they would offer the same protection as a utility weapon, but neither weapon on its own would be useful enough to invalidate most of the sandbox in the manner that a utility weapon would and, indeed, has. Safe spawning and a safe sandbox.

I’ve been asking for the DMR to be ineffective at CQC for a LONG time. Although this balances the spawning, the issue is would the other weapons still be viable to pick up?

I think so.
With a utility setup, you can sacrifice the redundant secondary, but you have to keep the utility, because if you don’t, others will. Dropping the DMR is a stupid move. If everything is a niche gun, however, then you can pick whatever niches you like, without having to worry about a utility gun.

That sounds like a good setup to me. Didn’t CE do this? It would also add more strategy to the game and encourage map movement as well. I’ll miss my Pistol though… we all must make sacrifices for the “greater good”.
I need to point out how most old school FPS games had modes that WERE one weapon only. (Instagib anyone)?
Slappers Onry? Moonrakers Only? Snipers only?
SWAT?
Are all of those skill based and skill based alone?
SURE ARE!!!
I know you’re being sarcastic just to prove an extreme point about how mad you are over TU/ZB settings, but this sort of stuff has been around for a while now.

Those however are specialized gametypes (or whatever other FPS’s call them) and are meant for that. Normal Halo matchmaking was never like that.
There is always a shining weapon that performed the best. AR has been encroaching ever since Halo 3, only because Bungie decided to cater to people who don’t want to aim.
