why don't people go gunner in a hog?

i had a match on prospect wzff and i requed in 3 (yes three) rocket hogs! (it was against banshees) i honked my horn at each and every player that i found and not one went to the gunner option. is the whole community scared because if a few -Yoink- drivers?

Normally I’d say probably because they’re scared of your driving ability and it’s very annoying to drive around in a warthog when you’re not in the party with the driver because they’ll take you every which way… but a rocket hog is a whole different story, I’d hop in that thing so fast.

I call in gauss hogs just to post them up somewhere safe and pick off the banshees or phaetons. I love teaming up with random players when I’m solo, but I can’t rely on them.

well, they might doubt your ability to drive, i have gotten people to get in a scout warthog even, after a bit of a demonstration. Or the second thing could be that they only want to team up with friends.

Cuz it’s dangerous.

I wish 343 hadn’t changed the design of the turret, it’s easy to 4-shot the gunner.

. i did have a few opionions but i …

This comes to mind.

as the driver of the rocket hog (that i req’d) times 3 on this occasion, get in the car? i get out when the perp cant drive and leave them to die, -Yoink- gunner and drivers both deseve their own fate.

This. I’ve been on both ends. To easy to kill and be killed as a gunner, the bigger the mode, the easier it gets to doing it.

I think my sensitivity is too high to use a turret. I just don’t bother any more.

Bingo.

i will never get in a rando’s hog. Ever. I don’t care if it’s an oni gauss or a vespin. I only do hogs with my crew that’s partied up.

people underestimate the importance of close teamwork in hogs. We easily rack up 20+ kills per hog pull.

randos drive straight into the fray and just get you killed.

BR>Hog Turret

Can’t trust randoms to keep you alive.

Yup.

However, I will happily be a gunner if the hog is suitably powerful, such as a ONI variant.

People have a hard time trusting randoms to drive them. And sometimes snipers train their scopes on Hogs for an easy kill.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this, but most of the time if I spawn in (in wz or wzff) I have an objective in mind. I have a goal that I want to achieve, be it taking the boss, going for the far base, defending…whatever. Most likely I’ve spawned in the req or vehicle that I think will benefit me the most in achieving that. If you and I aren’t in a party and I hop into your hog, you and I aren’t necessarily going to share the same goals. I’ve spawned in a plasma caster aiming at suppressing an armory or an incineration cannon aiming at taking on the nearest Knight and you’re sitting there honking wanting to take me to fight a different boss or run circles around a wraith. It isn’t necessarily that you’re a bad driver, I simply already have plans.

One of the main problems that I experience with the Rocket hog that the driver drives into the rockets.

Yes, I could have communicated were I was firing, but I wish the driver wouldn’t drive through the explosions.

I’ve ran into players that drive you into all the enemies to get you blown up or run into everything and roll it. I still take chances with a vehicle just in case they are good, it’s about 50% of the time tho.

Most Warthog drivers are unfortunately, absolute retards. They think of the Warthog as highly armored ultra mobile tanks, instead of fragile, annoying speedsters.

What is the immediate reflex of a stupid Warthog driver? Charge in. Charge in the enemy territory, get surrounded, get your gunner sniped by 100 BRs and die.

Oh also, he loves to make sure to drive as fast as possible in all situations, complicating the gunner accuracy even more. HIT AS MANY BUMPS AS POSSIBLE, FLIP OVER AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. Surely that will make the gunner get more kills! Right?!

WRONG. A smart Warthog driver acts in harmony with his gunner’s status. He drives in a relatively stable way, avoiding full speed and bumps to stabilize gunner firing, unless in an escape situation. He also tries to avoid getting surrounded by ten billion Spartans, makes hit and run strikes, and checks the amount of damage the gunner is taking. He retreat if the gunner is taking too much damage, and allows his shields to recharge. He rotates the camera to check for potential targets while the gunner does his job, and tries to call out those targets, either by voice or honking.

All in all, a good Warthog driver tries to -care- for his gunner and tries not to take more than the gunner and the vehicle can chew.

Unfortunately, most people fail to understand that, which makes potential gunners extremely wary of random Warthog drivers.

That is my answer to your question.

I jump at the chance to be a gunner in any vehicle. I think the biggest problem is players can’t identify if its a regular hog or something like the guass, if people knew how outright devastating these vehicles are with a good driver it’d be over for other reqs.
