Firstly, I’m not trying to stir up hate,it’s a genuine question/suggestion. The Halo 5 forum is full of threads lamenting the change of Halo or threads that are immediately highjacked by disgruntled (and I am one of them) Halo fans who dislike Halos direction after 3/Reach. It will be at the very least another year until Halo 6 comes out, but realistically 2-3 years. The point is, we’re going to be waiting quite a long time for a Halo game that is still probably not the one that we want. So why not just play Halo 3? It works, I still play it. The population count is depressingly low these days and rarely gets out the 200s, but in mid 2014 it still managed a thousand or two, so I think its most likely the arrival of the MCC and Halo 5 that has drained the population. Halo 3 is a ready made Halo game that many fans appear to want, so why don’t players just go back to it?
I’d go back to Halo 3, but unfortunately no one is going to just leave Halo 4 and Halo 5 (if people still play 4, that is.) Regardless, people are probably done with Halo 3 since they played as much of it as they desired and don’t have a reason to go back. That said, its a great game, so I’m not sure why people have left Halo 3 behind. TL;DR: I don’t know.
Because the only people that still play it are tooo good. And no one like getting wrecked.
Personally I can’t play Halo 3 or any others effectively after playing Halo 5 so much.
I think people just want something new, and Im not a halo 3 advocate but I can see why halo 3 and 2 fans have a problem with certain features being implemented in 4 and 5 I think that if halo is to survive these people have to be adressed we need to be able to have a game that both makes the old fans and the new fans happy more than likely that will be a game that took everything halo 1 2 and 3 did right and also everything 5 did right and implement it into the game; more than likely this will definitley include the removal of sprint. BUT maybe there is a way to make it SEEM like sprint is in there. at the end of the day I think more likey than not halo 6 would be better off without it. at the end of the day the only way to expand your brand is to stay loyal to your core fanbase while adding newcomers into the mix there lies 343s challenge.
Maybe people who dislike the new way Halo does things want a new Halo that is closer to the original concept? You will find a lot of people who don’t like Halo 5 don’t want a clone of Halo 3 they want a new game that is closer in design to Halo 3, for me that means specifically no smart scope, no Reqs, more exotic map designs and a less generic art style.
perhaps instead of having your shields not recharge when you sprint haveing your shields go down when you sprint. Or maybe just perhaps making a speed boost spartan ability that makes you go faster for a little bit but also takes a toll on you somehow.

I agree with everything exept for the reqs, they can stay I just am not a fan of that RNG -Yoink-.
Thats easy, lag.

I found that, I hadn’t been on Halo 3 for quite a long time and when I recently logged back on I found they had mostly gone. The ones that owned social big team that is.
I think, that the campaign is what drives the multiplayer. If the multiplayer is that exciting, that engaging and that interesting, the player will take that enthusiasm into matchmaking. I certainly found that with Halo 3, because I was so fascinated with the story just playing online on Halo 3 was enough to make the multiplayer exciting, but maybe that’s just me. But it would explain the correlation between weak storylines in Halo 5 and the lack of multiplayer engagement. 343’s Halos multiplayer is built from the ground up, it is TRYING to be exciting, when really much of the previous legwork was done in the player’s imagination. I think when a game tries to throw itself at you it feels too engineered. It’s almost as if its screaming- “Look your being immersed how does that make you feel?!” Rather than your own excitement immersing you,
Probably because they have already played that game to death already. What so many around here fail to understand is that there is a difference between wanting to play a game that maintains its classic roots and wanting to play literally the same game over and over.
I don’t want to play Halo 3 till the end of time, all I ever wanted is a sequel to Halo 3 in the same way that Halo 3 was a sequel to Halo 2.

And that would mean, starting off with NO armor abilities. It would be a very great start, but all the CoDified 343 drones would start crying that it isn’t innovation… implying that 343 innovated with Halo 4 and 5. Lol no. All 343 has been doing is IMITATING games like CoD and Titanfall (and even bad F2P MMOs with their microtransaction garbage) and pandering to CoD kiddies.
By the way OP, it’s skeptics*.
Because people have moved on, people barely play old games anymore. Anyways, the people who hate Halo 5 will be calling it good in a decade anyways. Old games are the best things ever, while new games are awful, nostalgia glasses at work.

Totally disagree and numbers do not have a preference for “new vs old”. The industry is in a weird period now, everything is patched after release resulting in a less spectacular long term product. General Pop + sustained pop numbers would indicate 3 will always be viewed as a very deep and content packed experience whereas 4 will be viewed as a good try (content, campaign) by 343 but a huge deviation (mechanics, MP) from what made halo so appealing.

Op I think that you will find this video informative. This video is from August 15, 2014. The population numbers were quite a bit higher than what you alluded to. The mlg population alone is over a thousand which is amazing seeing as the mlg playlist hadn’t seen populations this high since 2010. People were hosting tournaments via prize money that came out their own pockets. Probably the most amazing thing about this video is that they were running 4s and getting matches. This is even more impressive when considering halo 3s strict matchmaking, party, and skill range restrictions (Parties of 4 could only match other parties of 4 within the same skill range). I have no doubt that this game would have continued going strong up until halo 5 if not for mcc’s release.
Because I want a new Halo that is an evolution of Halo 3, I’ve already played the -Yoink- out of H3. If they make the kind of additions to H3 with the anniversary as they did Halo 2, then I’d instantly ditch Halo 5.
The game isnt dead, it`s just been abandoned
I wish it was so easy to go back to 3 but it’s pretty hard when at times you have 50 people as the whole population of slayer and social slayer combined.
-
Halo 3 is the most voted game in MCC BTB.
-
Halo MCC is still a mess on many levels.
-
people want an up to date, “evolved” version of Halo 3. Not a carbon copy.
Because the 360 population is probably only made up of gods at this point and the Master Chief Collection isn’t a true experience.

weeps such a great system bwahahaha. tries playing Halo 5 solo, placed with random and immediately pubstomped by Spartan company
