Is 343i actually this lazy? Good thing I’m a massive Dark Souls fan and I can turn BS into something cool.
so, “Recruit”, is it actually only a standard amongst recruits? Or is it a standardized BDU? The logical thinking inside me can only assume how expensive it would be to create unique Mjolnir suits for every 500+ S-IV on the field, so why is there no official standardized set? Well… When we see all of the SIV’s in the Requiem campaign, nearly all but Crimson wear a single set, to a lore standpoint this may be suggesting they’re somehow all rookies or Recruit is a standard BDU, to a technical standpoint it’s 343i trying to save space/time, or just being lazy. But these SIV’s actually wear Richochet forearms, suggesting that Richochet gear isn’t just for Richochet and Recruit may not be only for recruits (obviously Richochet as an armour set is uncanon, but why not rename the gauntlets and legs something more official. Oh yeah it’s 343).
from the Air Assault armour page on Halopedia, “In early 2553, Air Assault was considered a front runner for the standard armor set issued to newly recruited Spartan-IVs. However, the contract ultimately went to Hannibal Weapon Systems’ RECRUIT-class suite.”
from the Warrior set page, “Mjolnir’s mainline armor kit, designed by the Materials Group out of Damascus.”
Both of the above armours apparently offer utility in air combat or enhanced movement, while all three still providing the same universal benefits, so how come we still haven’t seen a S-IV wearing Warrior yet? What does Recruit offer that is somehow better than enhanced mobility, or more magnetic hardpoints (soldier)? We’ve seen Thorne, Davis, and Miller in Recruit, and all three are either veterens or highly skilled, so why have they not changed armours? Davis was in training right beside Joel Thomas, and Yeong-hao Holst, so if they had a choice not to pick Recruit why did they? It’s apparently nothing but an armour for rookies, yet many years later we still see Spartan Thorne and Thomas wearing Recruit.
Recruit body bescription: “SPARTAN-IVs are required to use the RECRUIT-class armor until they demonstrate mastery over their many augmentations”, yet in New Blood it says S-IV’s aren’t to step into any armour at all until they’ve mastered their augmentations.
So… What does all this mean? I dunno, but what I do know is that this is a big deal.
edit: just off of personal opinion I feel like the Recruit and Air Assault are the closest to looking like classic Gen 1 Mjolnir and that’s why they’d be considered a BDU standard over Soldier and Warrior.
