Why Doesn't Thorne Switch Armour?

Is 343i actually this lazy? Good thing I’m a massive Dark Souls fan and I can turn BS into something cool.

so, “Recruit”, is it actually only a standard amongst recruits? Or is it a standardized BDU? The logical thinking inside me can only assume how expensive it would be to create unique Mjolnir suits for every 500+ S-IV on the field, so why is there no official standardized set? Well… When we see all of the SIV’s in the Requiem campaign, nearly all but Crimson wear a single set, to a lore standpoint this may be suggesting they’re somehow all rookies or Recruit is a standard BDU, to a technical standpoint it’s 343i trying to save space/time, or just being lazy. But these SIV’s actually wear Richochet forearms, suggesting that Richochet gear isn’t just for Richochet and Recruit may not be only for recruits (obviously Richochet as an armour set is uncanon, but why not rename the gauntlets and legs something more official. Oh yeah it’s 343).

from the Air Assault armour page on Halopedia, “In early 2553, Air Assault was considered a front runner for the standard armor set issued to newly recruited Spartan-IVs. However, the contract ultimately went to Hannibal Weapon Systems’ RECRUIT-class suite.”
from the Warrior set page, “Mjolnir’s mainline armor kit, designed by the Materials Group out of Damascus.”
Both of the above armours apparently offer utility in air combat or enhanced movement, while all three still providing the same universal benefits, so how come we still haven’t seen a S-IV wearing Warrior yet? What does Recruit offer that is somehow better than enhanced mobility, or more magnetic hardpoints (soldier)? We’ve seen Thorne, Davis, and Miller in Recruit, and all three are either veterens or highly skilled, so why have they not changed armours? Davis was in training right beside Joel Thomas, and Yeong-hao Holst, so if they had a choice not to pick Recruit why did they? It’s apparently nothing but an armour for rookies, yet many years later we still see Spartan Thorne and Thomas wearing Recruit.

Recruit body bescription: “SPARTAN-IVs are required to use the RECRUIT-class armor until they demonstrate mastery over their many augmentations”, yet in New Blood it says S-IV’s aren’t to step into any armour at all until they’ve mastered their augmentations.

So… What does all this mean? I dunno, but what I do know is that this is a big deal.

edit: just off of personal opinion I feel like the Recruit and Air Assault are the closest to looking like classic Gen 1 Mjolnir and that’s why they’d be considered a BDU standard over Soldier and Warrior.

Puncuatuation and literacy are probably terrible btw but I was focusing on the thought process.

I think the armor best for Thorne would be SOLDIER, his role in H5 was the soldier or I guess battlefield support. Maybe the RECRUIT armor maybe also be like the armor for general combat like no specified role just combat like the base Mark IV,V, and VI.

Because he’s just as bland as his Recruit armor.

Just kidding (or maybe not?). It is just because he’s supposed to be our representation as gamers in Spartan Ops, and that’s the armor we all started with.

Same reason why Chief still wears the same inferior armour. Although there’s better variants combat wise its what the user feels comfortable with during combat, in the lore the UNSC has been surprised by how resilient the Recruit armour actually is. Plus the amount of time a Spartan has Recruit for Is determined by the individual.

In the case of Davis there was limited amount of armour on the Infinity at the time, if he was the one to choose first he could have gotten Palmers armour.

When you say “obviously Richochet as an armour set is uncanon, but why not rename the gauntlets and legs something more official. Oh yeah it’s 343” are you trying to say its noncanon? Because its a canon sport in the universe and the armor was made for the sport for Spartan competitions, just like that Breakout armor(cant remember its name) As for the Spartan NPCs wearing Richochet gauntlets and legs that’s because those were considered “recrut” armor during the early stages of the game but was change for one reason or another leaving in small discrepancies here and there when 343 decided to use them as DLC.
If you look closely at “Halo: Infinity” the CGI part of Spartan Ops you’ll see a few other unused items such as the Soldier Leg pieces. Even in game the Recruit shoulders are different for multiplayer then they are for the NPCs and cutscean models.

Anyway, as for why Thorne doesn’t switch armor maybe he was denied the opportunity to do so but a yet unexplained reason?
Also the special edition of Halo 4 is Throne’s box with documents and other items inside all of which belong to him. One item is a “Mjolnir Gen2 Requisition” paper showing what armor he has been recommended for. They include, Warrior(which has been noted to be the original recuit armor), Hazop, Pathfinder, Orbital, Soldier, EOD, Scout, and CIO. Scents in first episode of Halo: Infinity he was a new recruit I’m guessing he got this requisition sometime after or during the season one. It’s no secret that Spartan Ops didn’t do well and was finished in the comic Halo Escalation. So, maybe if Spartan Ops did better we would have seen a better budget continuation that actually had him get one of the armor sets listed above, instead of lazy artwork that was never consistent.

He could have chosen to continue to wear it. I’m sure some of us do, and recruit isn’t exactly a bad armor, maybe it’s personal preference.

RECRUIT armour could be used for multiple reasons. Personal preference, not sacrificing x for y, or style… Which is discouraged.

also, there’s the RECRUIT - PROVEN variant.

More questions for cannon fodder

The Ricochet Forearms were actually the original Recruit Forearms until very late in development; they were instead replaced by the Warrior Forearms. This change is evident in all pre-release Halo 4 Spartan Armor Rendors: All of them, with the exception of a few sets and the Warrior set, use the Ricochet Forearms.

It’s quite clearly the third word in the post that lead to it being censored.

Ok… So spelling mistakes are recognised as derogatory terms!

1st its clear this person can’t spell for -Yoink-. He’s spelt forgettable wrong twice. So they are actually a potato or their auto currect is off. “Am I right dirty… What’s that mate… your band… You potato”.

May be mods should be pointing this out instead of labeling people as homophobes or simply correct them.

if its so offencive that it warrants a ban why is it still visible “hate speech”?

ive done my white knightingale for the day.

Op: Thorne is a garbage 117 wannabe character [period] MkIV was the stranded issue for the SII’s. Recruit for the 2nd rates.

Talk to the mods if you have an issue with their moderation. He may have spelt it incorrectly twice, but he did so in completely different ways, giving them reason to believe that one was intentional.

Ive said my bit On the topic, so I can lol at dirty when he’s back… If he comes back? I need to screen cap this.

Talk to the mods!!! That ain’t gonna do Jack. Someone reported it. Ergo Someone was upset by his lazy -Yoink- spelling mistake or really bad tastless pun. Internet law everyones guilty until proven guilty. I find it funny that the only true offensive thing in there is the spelling and word potato used as a discriptive.

There is no presumption of innocence with moderators.

Boring conversation anyway [shoots computer]

Maybe he just likes it? You seem to.

For future reference, try to avoid inserting homophobic slurs into your posts.

I know the guy and it wasn’t intentional like you make it out to be. So drop it, what’s done is done. This no longer has any barring on the original thread.
