Why doesnt the shipmaster use elites

In halo wars 1 I loved the little touch of giving the brute leader brutes instead of elites. Even though there was little to no difference it added to the lore od the character and his preference of using his own kind over the elites.

I was hoping it would be similar for Let but sadly this isn’t the case. From a lore standpoint it would make sense for him to employ his own men as apposed to Atrioxs brutes. He even mentions it when confronted by Atriox about how many men he currently has. From a gameplay standpoint it would be purely an aesthic change.

The game currently has leader specific units, be it hero’s and standard, if a change like this was possible it could eventually lead to each leader becoming for more unique by gaining their own personal unit styles

Agree

He uses ghosts instead of choppers at least.

It’s an odd choice (not to mention that he should, at the very least, have a unique leader power unit like Ander does with Protector Sentinels). At least we have a Ghost.

The fact that we have ghosts mean they understand the racial differences, which makes me wonder why no elites from the get go. When I saw the elite anti infantry in the initial beta I though they would be shipmasters unique unit and the other leaders would have standard jackals

I feel like at the very least they could change the brute found in the grunt squad to an elite.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Much like in halo wars 1 where the elite was replaced by a brute when you played as the brute chieftan

I completely agree and was actually considering starting my own thread about it before I saw this one. I hope it wasn’t just laziness as to why they didn’t - it’d be a nice touch if they did.

The sipmaster has thrown Sanghelli tradition out the window by working for Atriox, and who says he had a full compliment to crew his ship when he joined Atriox. After the war, it was a grab to take what ever they could get their hands on, ships and weaponry

I completely agree and definitley miss that from Halo Wars 1 it was really cool

I agree with you guys but maybe I can explain why is it goes that way. How I understand the Elites in Atriox campaign came from their main ship so there are not so many elites in the army of Atriox compared to brutes.

In Halo Wars 1, even the voice-actor for the vehicle drivers were changed between Brute and Elite.

But yeah, there are canon explanations, I suppose.

#ripelites

I think they changed that for balance issues. Remember, when you put an Elite Grunt Squad vs Brute Grunt Squad, the Elites would win because the Brute Shot was inaccurate however did more damage. I do wish they kept the HW2 concept but just make them keep the Spiker and Elite keep the Plasma Rifle or Repeater.

I would love to see the Shipmaster’s units have Elites instead of Brutes (except for the Brute Jump Squad. Though maybe he could get an Elite-themed counterpart instead?).

Oh, and on a slightly related note, I really wish that when Spartans hijack Mauraders, that they would switch the Brute gunner out for a Marine. Because it makes no sense as it is right now. (A Brute would more likely die than obey a Spartan.)

It’s probably because a lot of the elites were naval officers or the covenant equivalent instead of soldiers.

That is a good point tbh i never noticed, but i use UNSC leaders.

Hahahaha having a marine pop out of nowhere wouldn’t make much sense either, I just think it’s hilarious how the gunner brute stays :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe the banished favors brutes so much they just don’t take many elite defectors

He does use honor guards, minor concession. However due to the lore, it makes sense there are not many elites that came over to the banished ranks.
