they spent 70billion in a recent acquisition they bought minecraft for 2.5 billion not including funds for furthering development
so why cant they heavily support 343i?

The assumption that throwing man power and money at Infinite will fix it is far from the truth. As far as I can tell Infinite’s tooling and engine are the main culprits for the lack of response on things like desync. Adding new staff won’t fix the problem overnight or even sooner, 343 really needs time to presumably refactor their code base to make it easier to implement patches and content. Unfortunately for them everyone’s patience seems to be running thin and these kind of issues should’ve been addressed in the pre-production of Infinite.
true after I posted this I started thinking 343i cant be fixed with money only replacement and looking for truly the best people for the job for 343i 2.0
They should honestly just put down infinite and work on a new engine for their 10 year plan instead thats actually from the ground up a modernized engine with max capability
It’s not Microsoft’s fault that Infinite is a crapshow. Every other Traditional XBOX IP’s is doing well under MS’s hands off approach. 343i is the only Xbox studio that is slacking far behind the rest.
This is true. It might actually make things harder if the coding is duck tapped together, because a new person would have to take a long time to understand why it’s duck tapped and how to remove that tape to truly fix the code.
honestly infinite is very good. the multiplayer is very very fun
No one here is talking about if it’s fun or not. I personally think the MP is fantastic. However, it’s broken, and the desync issues that are present make the game not only incredibly frustrating, but also not at all “competitive” as 343 recently stated it was. A game is not competitive when you can’t even know if you got a kill based on true skill, or if the other person was experiencing desync and thus significantly disadvantaged. I’m glad your having a good time, but a large percentage of people are not because of the persistent and severe issues with desync. Yes the content is slow and lacking, yes there are other complaints, but these should all be on the back burner to 343 fixing the functionality of this game to an acceptable and consistent level. Nothing else is acceptable and they need to START there, otherwise anything they do will be moot. You don’t tint your windows after you have a flat tire, ignore the tire, and expect the car to drive successfully, you fix the tire first and then can fiddle with cosmetics at a later date. Tire first, then frills.
If the engine truly is the culprit. Why not hire people to build an entirely new engine on the side while the current staff continues developments on Infinite. Then when everything is solid, just port everything from Infinite over to the new engine. Have a massive relaunch on Infinite 2.0
Microsoft doesn’t believe in Halo anymore. The original team is gone. Can you blame them?
As much blame I give 343… the situation is difficult. 343 should be respected for bringing this franchise back. We forget to be grateful sometimes. It’s better this… than nothing at all. Imagine us writing pages and pages of topics on Halo - Forums about “Please bring back Halo for 4th sequel”. Imagine us being those Valve fans asking for Half Life 3…
Anyways, 343 needs to work with what they have, and streamline. It looks like the 10-year plan will work to bring out Halo 6.
This. I’m tired of everyone trying to pass the buck to microsoft when it looks like microsoft was giving them resources, but 343 just kept squandering them.
You can’t just endlessly give someone money thinking it’ll solve their problems.
Back from what? Halo was mighty popular before 343 took over.
Honestly I’d say Helf-Life has a more legendary status because 3 never happening. 3 actually coming out would probably be disapointing.
There’s nothing wrong with having a conclusion.
Well yea, they didn’t bring it back to the level of an AAA title.
But there were glimpses. In halo 4 after the first mission sequence, when Chief is getting pulled into the gravity well of the metal planet. He gets hit with a large metal plate, and it cuts to the “Halo 4 title”. I thought that was a good touch, and in general, Halo 4 graphics were very good for 360, and I remember thinking wow… Halo is in good hands… 343 has done it. Similarly in Halo Infinite campaign, opening to the open-world campaign graphics were stellar and I thought 343 had done it finally.
But yea, overall speaking… MP included, Halo went from AAA title to BBB title (if there’s such a thing).
But seems Microsoft is “ok” with that. They’ve always have been. They’ve never punished 343 … and I think it’s because they set the bar lower than with Bungie. They knew Halo wouldn’t be AAA ever again it seemed. As much as I want to pin it all on 343, the looming shadow they’re in… is a far bigger concern.
From what I’ve read, they gave them all the resources imaginable.
I think it is also relevant to mention that post-launch, MSFT has probably scaled back resources significantly. Maybe they haven’t really figured out the live service thing, but they might be pulling back because they have less confidence in 343, or just don’t think Infinite will be worth more investment.
Unless those resources include permanent workers who can learn and untangle the Slipspace Engine’s technical debt? It doesn’t matter how much money you throw at it. That approach would solve it eventually, but should they have had a more permanent workforce half a decade ago, it’s entirely realistic for them to have delivered a quality product on time.
Seems like it’s not an issue with the amount of resources, more like the wrong resources, and $ being spent in the wrong places. A lot of this game’s issues seem to have resulted from outsourcing to foreign contractors whose work is difficult for 343 to integrate into the whole
343 probably already has all the resources they can wish for, but mismanagement and the outsourcing to timely limited contractors ruined it
Microsoft game studios invested very heavily into 343 so they could design their own game engine. Then they decided to cut costs by outsourcing most of the work
Now the situation has changed. 343 needs time to fix their game engine so that they can fix the game and make it stable and ready to churn out seasonal content like an assembly line.
Meanwhile, Microsoft Game Studios saw that Halo Infinite wasn’t meeting expected earnings. Buying up their competition ensured quarterly earnings looked good and that the future is still prosperous.
The rest of the year is about waiting to see what happens. Microsoft made changes to 343 management in hopes development speeds up. They’re also looking forward to seeing what the ROI is going to be following the holiday season.
Either way microsoft wins with or without 343 now. The games department is going to be reporting record 4th quarter earning regardless of how the winter update goes since they own cod minecraft and many more now.
Realistically, it could be another year until this game is considered a finished and polished product. That’s assuming the current roadmap goes according to plan with 0 delays.
Half Life wasn’t a conclusion though it ended on a cliff hanger I’m way more happy we got more Halo games and the MCC rather then them just abandoning everything like Half life did
Are you serious? 343i have almost Infinite budget. MS gave them everything they asked and more.
Only thing 343i did right was Halo 1 and 2 remaster.
They had a deadline for Infinite. Delayed the game for a year and still release an unfinished game.
343i ruined the franchise. All they had to do is pick up Halo 3 and slightly improve the formula and deliver better graphics and lots of maps. Instead they decided to change Halo. Picked up the worst of Halo Reach, armor abilities and gave them steroids, custom load outs and random weapon placement and drops. Totally ruined the experience. Then they release Halo 5 with no split screen and return with Spartan abilities no one asked for. Spent money and resources in tv shows and false advertising campaigns no one cares about.
It’s unbelievable what they did with Infinite with all the money and years of development. The new engine was supposed to be ready for Halo 5 and they still using an Engine based on the old one.
