Why doesn't matchmaking consider party size?

Halo 3 had this 10 years ago.

Destiny has a playlist specifically for solo players.

Why must I play 1v4 every game?

Hardly anyone owns this game, so it’s kind of hard to say, “then join with friends”

I made it to 90% of Diamond 6 then got the very worst possible teammates ever. I’ve lost 12 of the last 13 games and keep dropping. To make it worse, I’m on a communication ban, even though I didn’t play Xbox all of last week or with anybody else…so that’s random.

“Onyx” should just be called “teams playlist”… It’s not even a challenge playing in a group vs randoms. Please fix this.

Do we know for a fact that it does or does not?

anyway, a team of four does not necessarily mean that they’re good. Maybe it does at onyx level, I’ll concede that. However, what if a team of poor or average players want to game together but they can then only get matches against good teams of four?

I think it’s working ok at the moment but then my team (when I run with others) is only a collection of diamond, platinum and golds so maybe I haven’t experienced the frustration of others.

I only play onyx players and they’re always in teams together. You can hear them talking after the game and the regularly have the same clan tag.

Generally speaking, they’re all awful 1v1… Which is why they have to play in groups of 4 to compete.

The bad thing is that if you play alone, it probably puts solid players in diamond, even if you win every placement match. Then, you have to win around 28 of 30 matches to advance. Good luck with that when one of four matches someone leaves on your team before the game starts. Also, the game doesn’t match based on class, it matches based on true skill. That’s why I play onyx players 1700-1900 every match… But I can’t advance. You’d think if I were to win 10 games in a row vs 1700+ onyx teams -which I have- they’d put me in onyx.

They should do this like Destiny. If you play vs larger teams and win, your ELO goes up significantly faster than playing in groups.

I’d recommend playing FFA if you don’t want to get dissapointed by your team mates.

Yes. It does NOT. Josh Holmes said on Beyond a while ago that the searching “preferes” team size and then switches to solo players after a while. But in reality I have to play teams back to back with very short search times. It doesnt prioritize team size at all if you ask me. But it is a fact that teams can match solo players and it happens often.

Solo searching on Onyx+ is extremly frustrating unlike searching 50 high in H3. (because H3 had party restrictions)

To answer your question OP: Because they are afraid of long search times after H4 and MCC. They also have no confidence that H5s population could handle party restrictions.

They really did have an awesome Match Making System.

But I used to play against 50’s all the time in H3
And I was no where near level 50.

Add me man I have the same problem! Hard to find good teammates!!!

Pretty sure it does. If you want this prioritized above all else, that is what I think you are requesting. Currently wait time is prioritized above party size. So get ready for longer wait times if they change it.

In social yes. In ranked you would only match people 5 ranks below or above you.

#1… faster matchmaking. H5 population isn’t very big you would probably spend a lot of time searching and you would probably replay the same players/teams quite often. #2 they probably figure with the Spartan chatter that no one really pays attention to that even group of randoms without mics has some communication

There’s negligible wait time as it is now, unless you get to champion. That’s actually kind of a bad thing in itself. Half the time you don’t have enough time to get a drink between matches. Ha.

… Which is kind of a big deal, because the first 10 seconds of a match are the most important. I kind of wish power ups spawned in later, really.

I also highly recommend not playing late at night. The servers outside your time zone are rough. Hardly anything actually lands.

I’m not being criticizing by asking this question. I’m just curious. Why are you concerning with ranking up? Are you trying to go pro? why does it matter if you play diamonds or Onyx? AGAIN NOT BEING CRITICIZING. I just don’t get why people want to rank up other than bragging rights.

That’s the TrueSkill matchmaking system for ya. Happens to everyone and the low population doesn’t help. I suggest you play FFA.

I want to get better. In order to get better, you have to play better competition.

Well ok then. Thanks.
