Just curious why is Master Chief the only known Spartan to be ‘designated’ an A.I? Do not tell me he is the chosen one I know all that from reading a few books and playing every halo game ever.
But if Fire Team Osiris is the UNSC’s new and improved super Spartans, why would you not want your newest super expensive military assets to be given that extra degree of resourcefulness. Cortana, and now Isabel both have been used to achieve unbelievable feats.
There are sometimes the need for an A.I to hack and "enter’ forerunner/ covenant/ enemy ships or installations and do things faster, things that regular Spartans can’t do even if you are trained in hacking, but A.I’s can dig into enemy computers 100X faster.
You would think each new Spartan after the investment into them, would be given an A.I.
I think it’s because they have the Artemis.

That is a valid reason, although I think Exuberant Witness could serve as their A.I. much like how Cortana and Auntie Dot were the A.Is of Blue Team and Noble Team respectively. Isabel could also become Red Team’s A.I. if she wanted to.

I’d love to have Exuberant Witness be my AI. Or my monitor. Hahaha.
I love to hear her in Warzone. She’s pretty awesome.
Maybe in Halo6 you can choose an A.I for you to have for the campaign, speaking to you in combat situations and doing A.I stuff hacking and what not. Each can have a unique witty personality

That’s a really cool idea.
But, I feel like it probably wouldn’t happen.
It’s really unclear. Spartans aren’t usually assigned AI, as the Master Chief was a rare case where he was chosen as a carrier for Cortana for an important mission that required her; and he simply kept her around after that mission went under. Smart AIs are still fairly costly and expensive, they almost exclusively serve on ships or stations, rarely squads or individual soldiers. (Noble Team was an exception, as a Special Warfare group). However, Cortana seemed convinced in Halo 4(and Halo: Evolutions) that the Master Chief would receive a “replacement” AI…
Though GEN2 MJOLNIR has dozens of AI(less than dumb AI) that handles a variety of minor functions like filing munition expenditure reports and organizing outside stimuli(such as making gunshots appear quieter to allow Spartans to hear more clearly), things of that nature.
It’ll be nice to see exuberant more in H6, or I’d like to see Black Box make an appearance, and given Locke’s background I could see a connection
I think exuberant is there AI now lol.
Well , Chief pretty much is the "chosen " one. Cortana chose her carrier.
Also smart AIs are extremely expensive and need the brain of a genius. They aren’t exactly a dime a dozen , so a VERY select few ever got to work with one.
Spartans don’t “have” AIs, is why. Canonically speaking, the only suits of MJOLNIR that we know is built to support interfacing with AI crystals is John’s G1 Mark V and VI; we don’t even know if his present G2 Mark VI supports that tech, though I’m sure it will if the plot needs it to. The tech didn’t even exist until August 2552; John and Cortana were testing it before they were hypothetically sent off for operation RED FLAG.
Noble Team didn’t “have” Dot. Dot was one of many smart AIs coordinating the war effort, likely overseeing numerous operations at once, which just so happened to include Noble Team’s. Similarly, Team Majestic and Team Crimson didn’t “have” Roland; he, similarly, merely coordinated their operations, as he likely does whenever such operations benefit from proximity to the UNSC Infinity. Dot was not plugged into any of Noble Team’s suits, nor was Roland ever plugged into an S4’s suit.
If you’re wondering about Jerome and Isabel in Halo Wars 2, the only explanations for that are conjecture on our part. The suit that Jerome used in the first Halo Wars would have no interfacing technology, as that technology wouldn’t exist for another twenty years. So at some point before he slots her into his helmet, he presumably gets a tech upgrade based on the UNSC stuff lying around on the Ark, and whatever Isabel herself knows.
You people do realize Auntie Dot is a dumb AI, right?
But yeah, as many have said, Spartans are rarely every assigned an AI and John is the only case of an AI choosing to ‘live’ inside a Spartan rather than a ship, base, or other larger vehicle or facility. Iona was assigned to assist Black Team, but she was never officially apart of the team, Auntie Dot served as a support unit for Noble Team and helped keep the team in contact with one another but she was never truly with Noble, rather with Colonel Holland.
Many AI are assigned to larger UNSC vessels and bases as a means to support jumps into slipspace, calculate weapons like the Cairo and it’s MACs, or help steer and pilot the ship or maintain a city, base, etc.
OP
Isn’t it really unusual for a Spartan to be assigned an AI?
I got impression from games that this was purely accidental. Keyes gives Cortana to Chief to uphold the Cole protocol. She then jumps in his armor on the MAC platform to disarm the bomb and wasn’t able to return after Chief jumped off it with said bomb. They then end up marooned together.
Halo 4’s intro implies that Halsey made Cortana to watch over the Chief and keep him sane. Which would imply that this was a very personal thing between Halsey and Chief that she wanted an AI to watch out for him.

I would agree but I would have to counter and say in one of the books or games, someone mentions that a set of MJOLNIR armor costs as much as a UNSC battle group/ armada. And REAL bred Spartans 2’s aren’t a dime a Dozen either. I’d say giving the surviving Spartan 2’s, most expensive and trained assets, every possible means to achieve their goal and stay alive would be UNSC’s goal. I.E an AI

Even though there is only 11 SIIs left. There’s only been about 5 Smart AIs made in totality of the halo universe. And they need them to control ships , stations , planets , etc. .
Cortana was solely made for Operation:Red Flag. To help a large squad of SIIs capture a prophet and she had to choose her carrier from those remaining IIs.
Cortana and Chief pairing together after the battle of Reach was all due to luck and circumstances. And it worked out better than anyone could have hoped for. Even surpassing Halsey’s expectations.

There are plenty of AI with different functions and jobs, like Isabel being a logistics AI. Build AI specifically with war fighting and tactics for each Spartan II MJOLNIR armor. Or one per squad.
Also have to mention this new bit of Canon. About AI integrating into Spartan armor
HW2
Isabel is used just like Cortana and Chief, with a chip in the back of the helmet and taken out and placed into a covenant ship where she some how took control, only being a logistics AI. And you can clearly hear her talking to him.
Presumably because Lasky realized that something was wrong with Cortana and their mission was AI-sensitive. You saw how Roland reacted, and he was one of the few who resisted joining her.
Not only that, smart-AIs are expensive and Spartans are becoming less-so. Not cost effective to give every team an AI.

There’s a lot more than five smart AI dude where the hell did you even get such a rediculous number?
Theres hundreds. Probably thousands or millions of smart AI.

I’m going by 3rd gen and up. The true Smart AIs

What makes 3rd Generation AIs and up “true” Smart AIs? Contact Harvest has the first Smart AI being made in the mid-21st century, so your classification is somewhat incorrect.
