Why doesn't anybody like forge maps?

I am fine with forge maps. They give you a different experience just like other maps. I’m just curious as to why nobody likes them. They have worse textures and the same environments, but that doesn’t have a negative effect on the gameplay. I know it might seem lazy to play on a map that you could’ve just built by yourself, but the odds of you and 343 both making the same map are pretty big. My favorite map out of halo 5 is guillotine and it’s a forge map. Yah it doesn’t look fantastic but it still plays great. Just want to know what you guys think.

I just wish they would have some kind of a forge paint mode, where we can go in and paint or lay texture or whatever so not all the maps look so boring. The only real issue with forge maps is that they look so lame and unoriginal. They may play fine, but we also like some originality to them.

It’d be nice if they went back and gave texture and color to all of their forge maps.

If you play on a map like Dorm and hate forge still or think its ugly…

You need to go get some taste brother…

people feel entitled. simple as that.

I don’t. I’m really enjoying the maps I’ve had the chance to play so far. Check out The Pit by Silent.

Wish there was a mode for matchmaking on top rated or top voted forge maps.

Forge maps are cool, but not when that is all you have to play on in BTB.

It’d sort of be unfair that one BTB map is dev made and the rest are forge. We’d start to despise the forge ones and only want the dev made. Now that I think of it, that’s kind of like how arena is (excluding BTB and breakout).

Beats me. I’m fine with fore/remix maps as long as they’re fun to play on, which so far they are.

Which one is dev made?

I think lack of texture is a key issue with the forge maps.

For me, it’s a matter of justifying the new console: if you’re going to make me shell out 500 bucks for a new console just to play your game, it better damn well do something that the 360 couldn’t. Which is to say, look and run better. The former falls at the first hurdle when you have maps like not-headlong that wouldn’t have looked out of place 16 years ago.

But in the larger context of Halo 5, it’s a matter of what I’ve come to expect from new DLC maps. For years now in the Halo series, you could be guaranteed that a new map is a genuinely new map. I’d be tempted to count remixes if they didn’t suck -Yoink- full time. Looking at you, Overgrowth.

None in BTB and everything else besides Pegasus and Orion if it comes back.

The problem with forge maps is that nine times out of ten, they don’t play well. Antifreeze and Recurve are horrible experiences to play on, even BTB Spire and Boneyard were better.

antifreeze is such an -Yoink!- of a map

Video games are a visual medium, and visually forge maps are butt ugly. Plus, it just seems kind of lazy to create maps in the same way the community does, especially when the community maps are often times better than the developer ones,

I love Forge maps. The community manages to hit certain designs that you just don’t see in the professionally made maps; some even utilize ideas from Bungie-era arena maps. The problem is from the lack of visual texture and the recent overuse of Forge maps in Reach.

I don’t mind either of those issues too much myself; maps the community make are a breath of fresh air and can even address map designs that may seem too risky for the deck to try.

343 took it easy on Forge maps in Halo 4 because of Reach, but it seems to be picking up again thanks to the wider customization of blocks and flexibility in Halo 5’s Forge.

I enjoy Forge maps greatly, but they deserve their own playlists and they certainly shouldn’t be subbed or relied upon to supply maps to the main playlists.

They should recreate and expand forge world. And to why everyone is upset that 343 is releasing forge maps instead of orignals, its because anybody can create forge maps, but when 343 promises maps and content, it should be original concepts on brand new levels. They coulda made a map based of the environment of Genesis. It could be a forerunner structure surrounded by genesis but no, 343 has to forge maps.
