I have heard many complaints about Reach, how it was the worst in the Halo series and what not. I like Reach, I agree it isn’t as good as the other Halo’s, but I was just wondering what are your guy’s reasons for not liking Halo. Is it the campaign, rankings, the new classes (jet pack, armor lock, etc…), multiplayer in general? I’m not going to debate with you I was just curious for your guys opinions.
Haha, on topic now. Bungie changed a LOT with Reach, introducing class-based elements to an arena shooter is not always widely accepted. I personally love Reach and still play it every now and then. Remember this, with change comes hate but change is better than repetitiveness
-Lack of ranking system and proper matchmaking.
-Randomness on practically everything.
-Overpowered Grenades.
-Overpowered Armor Abilities.
-Inaccurate precision weapons.
-The maps.
-Bad story with two-dimensional characters.
-Redundant and worthless automatic weapons.
-Credits are worthless past Eclipse. My next unlock is in about 9 million credits.
-Bad AI, with artificial difficulty by making them aimbots/bullet sponges.
-Broken powerups by default.
-Lack of bleedthrough.
-Very long killtimes.
-Strafe acceleration makes movement feel crap; turning it up just makes it feel like ice skating.
-Aim acceleration.
A lot of people didn’t like some of the new mechanics and features that were introduced in the game. Bloom and armor abilities were often people’s least favorite. Halo has always been considered a competitive shooter, and people thought those detracted from the competitiveness.
Besides those, some people didn’t like the maps, or the decreased movement speed/jump height, or the longer kill times than previous games.

Also keep in mind that a person is almost 10 times more likely to go to a forum to express an opinion if they are unhappy with it.
OT: Sitri pretty much nailed every reason. There were so many changes that all happened at once, and the price they paid for throwing all those new things together was poor implementation.
To be fair, as much as I complain about things in Reach I still play it often and I like it, but it’s my least favorite Halo to date.

Too much drama in the story line. It’s like during every cutscene noble team is going on about how the world is doomed. ‘The covenent are on reach’ ‘may god help us all’. Like I said too much drama and not enough action. In CE the only sad moment was when you found the record of pvt jenkins. In halo 2 it was at the start of uprising. Halo 3 the saddest moment was with sgt johnson. Each halo game has only had 1 or 2 sad moments in the campaign of non stop action. There were no moments like this in odst. But in reach, holy -Yoink- you can feel the over dramatization in almost every level. You know what it leads to? I skip every cutscene. I don’t care when Kat got sniped, or Carter went down with the ship, or Emile got stabbed. I never skip halo custscenes in other games but I always skip reach’s. Bore the hell out of me.

Lol thanks, I had a moment there. Realized it after I posted it. Thanks for your comments guys.

You sir, pretty much nailed everything. I think the three biggest faults are the armor abilities, maps, and matchmaking. Because of the abilities, the maps were designed around or broken and play terrible. Now consideirng that most people are going to want credits, they tend to play matchmaking instead of custom games and getting screwed by the matchmaking server while playing “horrible” settings and maps make the game feel worse than what it truly is. I belief if the base maps had been better and the armor abilities better implemented, I wouldnt see a good portion of rage out of my friends.

Its probably because it felt alot different for a halo game and there were some terrible flaws such as tanks killing their hijackers and evade and overall it isn’t seen well as others personally I think its a top notch game but I’ve played it soo much it bores me a bit.
There’s a lot of reasons why people don’t like this game but the 2 biggest reasons that always stuck out for me was the armor abilities and multiplayer maps. I love the game but I still prefer Halo 3 over any other game.
Oh and btw, another reason why some hate it is because of the campaign. People who read The Fall of Reach were disappointed. However, my opinion on this is that the games always come first and are the true canon (Don’t get me wrong I still love the books).
