Why does the UNSC call them "The Covenant"

Throughout the Campaign and Spartan Ops, the UNSC sometimes refers to them as “The Covenant”, I was just wondering why because I thought they were called “The Storm”. I could be wrong but I thought they were completely different fractions. Is this just a mess up or am I missing something?

because they are well known as the Covenant since the start? its just basicly a covenant faction, why would they call them the storm? theres no reason

They are the “Storm Covenant” actually.

> because they are well known as the Covenant since the start? its just basicly a covenant faction, why would they call them the storm? theres no reason

Well the Covenant believed in the Great Journey and worshiped the prophets, does the storm? If they don’t I don’t see why you would call them the covenant.

They should have called them Storm Covies or Storm.

That piece of fiction only exists in the data files on this website. How are casual players supposed to know?

Well 343i didn’t call them storm, press did.
Covenant remnant, Jul’s covenant…

> Well 343i didn’t call them storm, press did.
> Covenant remnant, Jul’s covenant…

That makes more sense, thanks!

and Jul’s covenant believe in the Didact, thats why they went to requiem, after he died they stayed and are after the librarian (spartan ops)

Yeah, I think they’re technically the Storm Covenant, which is annoying to say in battle situations, so they just go with Covenant or Covie.

Did he die at the end? I thought that the cutscene at the end with him talking about humans and when it shows master chief taking his amor off that he survived somehow and is gonna be in the next halo

As I saw in a Youtube comment:

He’s the evil villain that falls off a bridge into an endless chasm.
Laws of fiction dictate he’s still alive.

Well acccording to Wikipedia the religious definition of a Covenant is “a formal alliance or agreement made by God with a religious community or with humanity in general.” While we don’t know the specifics of the Sangheili-led remnant’s religion compared to the Prophet-led one, it might assume the same “Forerunners chose us to succeed them” belief, justifying the continued name.

On the ther hand, it could be because it’s still a “covenant” or coalition between different alien races (The Elites, Grunts, Jackals, Hunters, perhaps some Drones and Brute servants here and there).

Less canon-wise, it’s because it’s still basically the same enemies we’ve been shooting at for 10+ years now and calling them by a different name would seem sort of weird to your average player, perhaps.

No where in the game are they called “The Storm”. They’re called the Covenant Remnant.

“The Covenant” is the name they have given themselves RELIGIOUSLY as they are “fanatic believers” of Forerunners.

> No where in the game are they called “The Storm”. They’re called the Covenant Remnant.

Which I think is a bit wrong since I would consider the Loyalists to be the true Remnant. I think Neo Covenant would’ve good for Jul’s faction.

Covenant Remnant seems like a better name for the Covenant still controlled by Brutes. I like Storm Covenant for the one controlled by Elites.

They’re not called the Storm. That was a mistake from a very early article by someone like IGN or something.

They don’t have an official name, but Halopedia calls them the “Covenant remnant”.

They’re the agressive minority that didn’t want to accept that the Great Journey was false, and do not want to listen to the Arbiter.

They call them the Covenant for simplicity, though under Jul’s leadership (Since he secretly doesn’t believe in the Great Journey) they have been seeking out actual living Forerunners to gain things from them rather than attempting to fire the rings.

I call them Covenant or Stormers, depending on which word slips out of my mouth first. When I’m feeling a bit more lax, I go with Stormies. But I never called them Covies.

Regardless these Storm, remnants, what ever you wish to call them still believe in the Covenant’s belief of the great journey and still have a lot of the original species so they are referred to as covenant

All of the Sangheili reject the Great Journey, but the Covenant remnant still believe in the Forerunners as gods. Jul doesn’t actually believe in the divinity of Forerunners, but he follows the Didact because he shares his hatred for humanity.
