Finally, Halo TV Series is now available in Japan. I watched one episode right away, but what is the reason why Master Chief is active with his helmet off? Wouldn’t he be in danger without his helmet when the ship is hit by a missile?
The simplest reason is that the writers don’t have faith in the actor’s ability to portray the character without showing his face. It’s significantly harder to portray emotion without showing your face, but voice actors do it all the time.
You are correct that it is asinine for him to be removing his helmet in unsecured locations where combat could break out at any moment, even for a character that unlike the real Master Chief, hasn’t expressed feeling “naked” when he doesn’t have his helmet on.
A bit of cold comfort is that the show isn’t canon. It’s not part of the Halo continuity that nearly everything else is in, so the show runners can get their politics and virtue-signalling out of their system without affecting the canonical Halo universe. It doesn’t ultimately matter if he has his helmet off all the time, because he’s not remotely the real Master Chief we know from the games, novels, and comics.
I like to see him without his helmet, it’s help me to remember it’s not the Master Chief from the game
