Is it getting stale or boring?
Reach got stale and boring, judging from its population numbers. And it changed core Halo gameplay. So why do you think the core gameplay needs to change?

To survive as a franchise.
It doesn’t. Period. If a halo 3.5 came out and did terrible then sure lets change stuff. But why fix what isn’t broken? People are stilling playing halo 3 and would probably still be playing halo 2 if the servers weren’t shut down.
It doesn’t and the many successful game series that haven’t drastically changed like Halo prove that it doesn’t.

You didn’t read my first post.
ZOMG ZOMG ZOMGOMGSGJQ!
did you guys KNOW that…
that that…
…HALO 2 HAD CHANGES FROM HALO CE?! Z0Mg! Tehy changed teh thingz!
…
…
Point I am trying to make, is that with each subsequent Halo game, something has been either changed or implemented. What is this called, you ask? It is called “evolution”. Ya know, like pokemon or something. It was DESTINED to happen. Each game did keep the basic Halo formula, which is the following…
-no ADS
-super jump height
-fast running, relatively
-shields
-no One-shot kills, unless it is a sniper headshot or a -Yoinking!- explosion
That, in my opinion, is what makes Halo, Halo. If they keep those aforementioned points, then, in my eyes at least, it will ALWAYS be Halo. Halo is a like a christmas tree. Halo CE was the actual tree; the core. With each game, there were a couple ornaments added to it. With Reach, they tried different ornaments, but they still kept the -Yoinking!- tree; they didn’t change it into a shrubbery.
No matter how many ornaments you put on it, it won’t change the fact that it is a tree. Sure, some ornaments may be horrendous to look at, but they can be ignored; put them on the part of the tree that faces the corner of the room where nobody can see it. This directly relates to GETTING OVER THE FACT THAT SOMETHING YOU DON’T LIKE IS ADDED TO 343i’S (last time I checked, THEY were making THEIR game, NOT YOU) GAME.
343 is trying out different ornaments to put on the traditional, classic tree. Only a few ornaments; flashy ones. It’s not like they are stripping the tree of all of it’s branches to make it a twig. No, they are just doing things a little different.
You don’t like it, get over it. Period.
Change is good. We live in an ever-changing world. If you don’t like it, then maybe Earth isn’t for you. Go live on mercury where the day barely changes to night and the night barely changes to do due to how slow the rotation is.
Half of the members on this board are children; it annoys the hell out of me. Why? Because these are the same type of children whose parents spoil them. I bet these kids get their favorite dinner every single night, but, when their mom decides to make a different dish for her family, that child goes berserk and says “it looks like Yoink!! It isn’t my favorite dinner! Why are you changing it?! I want my SPEGHETTI, MOMMY! NOT LASAGNA!” when they haven’t even tried their mother’s lasagna.
It’s a pity how spoiled the lot of you are.
> To survive as a franchise.
False. Many franchises survive without the drastic change that Halo has.
>
You clearly don’t understand what I’m saying, and it was made blatantly obvious by the way I mentioned CORE gameplay, or the Halo “formula”.
Yes, games do change, and they need to. That’s not even what we’re arguing.

So you would be fine with Halo becoming a third person shooter, or adding kill streak rewards, or making it so you have to buy your weapons like shadowrun/ counter strike?

Palm tree christmas trees for every one!
Why do you ask? It’s too late.
P.S. I’m neither for, nor against the changes.
But, what I am saying is that they are keeping core gameplay. They aren’t changing much; just adding a couple AAs and loadouts. It doesn’t really change the core gameplay at all. I understand why the loadouts scare people; it scared me too. But, I came to realize that because this IS Halo, that the loadouts will be no different than choosing between the BR, AR, Carbine, or DMR. That is, at least, what I speculate.

I see the point you are trying to make, I guess I didn’t really make myself clear. To me, at least, I thought it went without saying that the FPS and starting off as a level playing field went without saying. Maybe I should have been a little more descriptive with my list.
The points I am trying to make is that change is good; superficially. But, tinkering core mechanics (like if they DID make it all third-person, buying weapons, jump no higher than a normal marine, etc etc), that is bad.

They’re completely changing core gameplay aspects. If you can’t understand this, you either didn’t play enough Halo or weren’t good at it. Weapons dropping in at any time? Spawing instantly? Custom classes? PERKS? You gotta be kidding me.
Halo formula should be:
|-1 major medium range weapon (BR) and 1 secondary close range weapon (AR, smg)
|-Grenades (That are not too powerful, just for taking out shields)
|-Melee (That takes two hits but only one if they lost enough shields)
-Weapons spawning at certain points at certain times
-Fast strafe speed and high jump height
-Everybody spawns with the same thing
While some of these are intact, many are not.
people say dumb stuff like “playing the same game for 10+ years” as if ce 2 and 3 didn’t see any change between installments
you can have change while keeping the prerequisite aspects intact
Just like every other classic franchise, money, entertainment, and ideas. When Halo 3 was in its last year before Reach i started to feel that the gameplay was kinda getting old.
i doesnt need to change

Every halo changed the core mechanics. Although halo 3 seemed the same as halo 2 it actually changed a lot. Slower movement, lower jump height, slower weapon switching, delay on how fast you were allowed to shoot certain weapons, leading bullets.
Because you do not learn C++ or gain a Art Degree or attend College for a Business Masters so you can flip the same damn digital burger for twenty years if you want to stay competitive. Heck even Coke and Pepsi have to break out every once in awhile to mix things up. Failure or not when you’re creative you gotta try new things and the hell with naysayers. Or go stagnate. If the developers just stayed with one winning idea all the time, you’d still be fighting the Cyber Demon and imps while still not being able to look up.
343 is trying out Spartan Ops+ Sounds new.
Bungie + equipment= no one was using it. = Let’s try something else.= AAs=Equipment that they hope people will use.
All they can do is cater to the Original games, but walk a fine line and try to find a new combination to FPSs while not ripping off COD or Battlefield 3 in the current market and trying to be Halo. I for one think Microsoft just needs to anniversary Halo2 and open the servers up for those who can’t let it go and push on for the rest of us.

Except they are doing things that change the fundamental core Halo and online experience.
They are messing with one of the most fundamental aspects of Halo gameplay, power weapon spawns. They are doing it in a manner that is specifically trying to “level the playing field” as well, not in a manner that adds depth and skill.
They are also continuing the Reach concept of spawning with abilities that are very different from each other. This alone gets rid of the “equal player” trait that is another fundamental aspect to Halo gameplay.
Lastly they are making the online experience fundamentally different by making you unlock gameplay elements through a progression system. Something Halo has never had.
The trilogy had plenty of change, but none of it messed with the core aspects that make up Halo. Reach did and Halo 4 is looking to do the same.
