Why does the game take so long to kick AFK players?

I can’t count how many matches I’ve lost due to somebody sitting there motionless for almost the entire match. It’s ridiculous how long it takes for AFK players to get kicked. It should be 1 min at most.

That is way too short. I think it should go by score instead. So for example if the enemy team lets say 15 kills and you do nothing then you should get kicked. Maybe even less.

For sure.
Or a mate was playing around with the old marathon engine and made this set up where if one of us was afk we got sent to a box off map till we moved and then we would spawn again.
So maybe a bow with a soft kill timer before it kicks you proper.

Yeah that sounds good. I just don’t get why they have the timer set at like 5-min plus.

The only thing is, what if you’re just bad at the game? Like you’re trying your -Yoink!- off but get a stiff lobby and can’t get kills. Maybe 2 minutes then, but the current timer is way too long — it’s most of the length of a quickplay match.

I am not saying doing nothing as in you get zero kills I mean doing nothing as in you don’t move.

Ah I see. Yeah I could be ok with that. But the timer too, should still be shortened. It’s currently like 5 min if not longer, which is too long imo.

Defiantly. I don’t know how many times I have lost CTF and strongholds games due to the very long AFK timer.

And honestly the quit penalty in quickplay doesn’t help. I’d personally rather someone just quit and be replaced by a player or bot, than go AFK for the whole match :joy:

Most game do about 2 minutes assuming no inputs are made… Worked fine in H5.

2 minutes would be great. At present it’s gotta be longer than 5.

im pretty sure it’s two, 3 minutes tops. It’s certainly not 5;)

Dealing with AFK’s in just about every game imaginable. I personally would want it to be 30 seconds to 1 minute tops in Slayer matches, and maybe 1 minute in objective modes. The faster it is to get rid of them, the better IMO. These game modes don’t last long regardless, so getting them out quickly will be best.

Would like to see a system implemented too that makes it that teams can only have the same number of players active at the sometime as well. All Extra’s will wait in an orderly fashion till another one of their teammates dies, and the longest one waiting will be next one to respawn.

I’m sure that somewhere there is an official listing of how long it takes, but even if you just lick your reload button when you don’t need to reload I’m pretty sure that it restarts the process to be kicked.

It’s absolutely frustrating regardless when you have a teammate not playing at all.

It’s definitely frustrating but I’m not sure that kicking them sooner will actually result in better games. An AFK player is less of a liability in slayer than getting a bot on your team. The AFK usually ends up sitting in a corner somewhere and if you’re smart about your map control you can keep the enemy away from them somewhat so they don’t die very often.

In objective a bit is more useful, although not by that much.

The biggest advantage to kicking them is that they can be replaced with a real player but that doesn’t seem to happen often enough.

That’s true, but the gamemodes which don’t backfill with a bot it’s better to just go 3v4 for a bit

That’s just ranked right? If so I think a very short AFK timer is appropriate in ranked. 1 minute max, maybe less.

Tactical Slayer also doesn’t give bots

Should be like CoFD, 10s at most and GTFO. Really, think about it - you go all the way through all the menus, submenus, counter, matchamking, loadings, aaaand… then you don’t play the game… AGFKing should be banannable as well of we’re at it.

You can report people for AFKing at least. Not sure if it takes a lot of reports to have anything done about it though.
