Hi 343,
I finished watching the Infinite demo and wondered why some parts of the game look like Mega Bloks/Minecraft? Especially those weird untextured honeycomb things littered about everywhere? I was playing Halo 3 on MCC and then I watched the demo and I am quite taken aback by how the game looked?
If you could provide an answer that would be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes,
A concerned consumer

Some weird artistic choices on the Brutes (Craig lol), Banished Phantom and weird hexagonal pillars for sure.
Digital Foundry video has a good video on why the demo looked weird. Worth checking out: Halo Infinite Gameplay Trailer Analysis: Are The Graphics Really 'Flat'...? - YouTube

The demo takes place on what looks to be a chunk of the broken section of Zeta Halo. In Halo Wars 2 they show the halo ring being comprised of an innumerable amount of hexagonal shapes. The hexagons we’re seeing are the broken parts between the chunks of broken Halo ring. Watch the demo again and when Chief opens the Map see he’s on a secluded section of the ring, an island so to speak. Also in the demo Chief and Brohammer are looking at a hologram of the Zeta Halo and it highlights the broken section. My guess is they had to travel to this damaged section and were seeing the edges of broken/unfinished pieces of Halo.
What we saw was an earlier build, so the graphics are finished. This means textures aren’t put in or finished just yet, and we’ll have to see how the final models end up looking.
Because the art direction isn’t very good. When faced with the question of “what does lies underneath the surface of a Halo ring?” the best we could get was a bunch of monochromatic hexagons apparently. There is almost no chance they ever look good when viewed at a distance and it honestly isn’t even very likely they will look good up close under the best of circumstances.
Short of some serious overhauls the Brute armor is also not likely to look much better. Throwing symmetrical studs on brightly colored plates of armor was always going to get that reaction.

Tell me, go back and watch the 2018 trailer. Why does every detail in that trailer look top notch and next gen. From close-up to out-far in the distance. “build is X months old” Means absolutely nothing when 2 YEARS ago it was significantly better.
Because the game is being catered primarily towards children. Hence no blood splatter and probably no flood.
In my case it looks like Minecraft because the pilons. There are a lot and seems like when on Minecraft there is an elevation, like a mountain. I’m not worried about the graphics/textures (or whatever) because that is probably going to be fixed.
I think what they should remove some pilons and add some Forruner robots working on those parts, or just add some details to them, something like lines or lights.
Am I the only one who saw the hexagon things and immediately thought they were supposed to be Giant’s Causeway-like basalt columns?

My lore is not up to speed. What do you mean by Giant’s causeway-like basalt columns??

Giant’s Causeway is a thing in real life, on earth. Check out the Wikipedia article

That’s exactly what we are seeing but the detail on the borders of the hexagonal pieces look more like plastic than forerunner metal for example . This is what people are saying

Nearly everything looks like plastic sadly.
According to 343, this is all part of the “classic art style” that “everyone” has been asking for since Halo 4. In this case, I’m not sure who “everyone” is. I didn’t ask for it. I liked the look of Halo 4 & 5.
- When I saw the Slipspace Engine demo, I was concerned. - When I heard 343 say they were going back to the “classic art style” for Halo Infinite, I grew more concerned. - When I saw the campaign gameplay reveal, my concern turned into disappointment.Unfortunately, this move seems like a desperate attempt by 343 to grow Halo’s audience by making the game appear more accessible, the thought being that games with a lighter, softer, simpler art style like Minecraft and Fortnite are more approachable for casual players.
I heartily disagree with the direction 343 has taken with this approach, but I’ll reserve final judgement until launch. In the meantime, I hope I see something that gives me a reason to change my mind.

I don’t buy that for a second.
Halo 3/H2A Campaign are my favourite Halo games in terms of art style/visuals and they both far outshine the visuals of Halo Infinite so far. I find that excuse from them rather insulting to be honest, making out like we asked for plastic mega bloks Halo >:(

The art style sucks. Now even metals look like plastic.

They have a contract with Mega Construx. Lego company. Coincidence??
If they would have given us Halo 2 Anniversary level graphics and art style, I would have honestly been happy.
H2A looked miles better than this. I legitimately dont understand why Infinite looks so bad.
