Just a quick question,
I just beat reach, and was going over the other games in the halo franchise in my head. One question that was never answered (that I saw) was why the covenant wanted humanity dead so much.
So, i’m asking. Why do the covies hate us?

The very short version
The war was instigated by the Covenant, whose Prophets discovered that humans were directly related to the Forerunners. In order to keep the Covenant Empire intact, war was declared against humanity.Less Short :
The Prophets thought they were the ones to get the Forerunner technologies, but when they found the humans, they were proved wrong. Further research done by the Prophets found that the humans were the Reclaimers, the true decedents of the Forerunners. (This fact is illustrated by the scenes where humans can activate Forerunner technologies, like when Master Chief is able to activate the light-bridge in Halo: Combat Evolved shortly after arriving on the Halo, even though he has no conscious idea what the buttons do;unconsciously, he might have some genetic memory passed down from the Forerunners. Another example is how the Covenant need living humans to activate the Halos; the massive Forerunner machines aren’t going to react to anyone who is a Forerunner or one of the Reclaimers.) To cover up the fact that the humans are the Reclaimers - thereby undoing the very core of the Covenant beliefs - the Prophets declare a kind of Holy War against the humans, despite the fact that at least one human is needed to activate the “Great Journey.” (Think of it as a government’s way of covering it’s tail when it founds out its wrong about basically everything.) There is also the fact that the humans are trying to prevent the activation of the Halo system causing the death of every last sentient creature in the galaxy, while the Covenant believe that the activation of the Halos would only destroy the “unworthy” and “unholy” and the rest would be taken the blast of the rings into their form of heaven. The Prophets told every species of the Covenant that we are a disase and we must be eliminated from the galaxy because we are creatures with no honor…yadda-yadda-yadda. That’s bullcrap! I can’t believe the Covenant was really that stupid to fall for that lie.
