I do not understand why alternate gametypes with BR/DMR starts still exist in post Halo 2 games.
I assume the purpose of BR starts in Halo 2 was to correct a multiplayer balancing issue. If this balancing issue was known and corrected in Halo 2, why does it still exist in the later sequels? Why would a developer knowingly create an unbalanced multiplayer game that requires an alternate gametype to function properly? Why not design the game from the ground up with properly balanced weapons?
This issue has persisted in 3 Halo games. I’m curious to know if anyone has ever noticed this and what their thoughts on the subject are.

I’m sorry if I wasn’t clear. What I meant was if the BR and DMR are the most balanced starting weapons in Halo, why are they never designed as the main weapons for halo gameplay. What purpose do AR starts serve if they need to be replaced by BR/DMR starts for most gametypes?
I think all slayer gametypes should have BR/AR starts rather than BR/pistol starts. Seems a bit more balanced. Medium range when you need it, short range when you don’t.

I don’t really know, I mean BRs seem popular enough.
That said I like the idea of starting off with AR/Pistol and then picking up a BR later.
That is just how I like to play anyways, but I won’t go all up in arms if they change it.

Pre-Halo 2 too. Back then it was called “Slayer Pro”. Why Bungie stuck with AR starts as the default, even though utility weapon starts have proven time and time again that they’re better, I’ll never know. Perhaps 343 will change this trend…
ARs are close range weapons and are a lot easier to use. They can beat a Utility weapon up close but can not properly defend against one or a sniper at range. It leads to being defenseless off spawn. BR primary/AR secondary is the best way to go.
