Why does one need to purchase new Map Packs?

This may sound like a stupid question, but am I the only one that thinks it’s ridiculous to have to purchase new maps for Halo Reach after shelling out $60 for a new game (or even $30 for a used)? Is it just a greed thing like just to get one to spend more at Microsoft… or… what? I just think that when you spend that much money on a game there shouldn’t really be more assembly required with important parts sold separately. Maybe it’s just me though…

Because some people can’t make good Forge maps?

You are not obligated to buy DLC. It’s a choice and this is true for Reach.

To be honest, you don’t need most of the DLC for Reach. It’s not required and many people do not have it. So your experience in Reach is not affected.

Though you can download the DLC for Anniversary as that has it’s own playlist and you are guaranteed play on those maps.

You download Noble and Defiant? Enjoy not playing on those maps thanks to randoms not having DLC or trying to find a match in Squad DLC that has little no population (it has the lowest population in the game. 200-300 on a good day)

You bought a product. Some one created Supplementary products. You do not NEED to buy the supplementary product, but if you want it then does it not make sense to pay?

Lets say you buy a Digital Camera. You don’t need to buy a Camera Bag, but you want it. Should you expect to pay for it?

They did a good job that must have taken plenty of hours of work to make. I wish it was cheaper but they don’t work for free.

I bought Reach and all DLC on release and I can honestly say it was not worth it.

The limited time DLC playlists were terrible and as a result were always poorly populated.

People abused the Noble playlist with USB-based DLC removal to roll Breakpoint constantly and the Defiant playlist had AR starts on massive maps.

Reach’s matchmaking for the life of the title has been terrible so far fewer people bought the Noble and Defiant than Halo 3’s DLC.

On the rare occasion I got a match on Noble/Defiant map the latency was terrible because players from all corners of the globe were forced together because of the terrible playlist populations.

DON’T SUPPORT 343’S FUTURE DLC BECAUSE THEY DON’T SUPPORT DLC OWNERS!

I know I won’t be.

After Halo 4 comes out, if they where drop the price of Reach DLC. Would it really cost them anything? Currently like what, $8 for each map pack? Total $24. Make it $5 bucks per pack, total $15. Totally worth it.

Although I already bought all three, I would appreciate the population boost of DLC owners.

Ya never buying dlc again. Optional DLC only works if 3/4 of the population doesn’t leave the game.

While you are at it, why must we pay to have a turbo installed in our cars???

You see my point?

Bungie in H3 slowly made maps free. There is only a few months left till H4 comes out. I would recommend not buying DLC.

And we should petition 343i to make the all DLC maps free and rotate them in the other gametypes.

You should be counting your blessings. Other games resort to monthly 1200 MSP map packs and day 1 DLC. Lame.

Halo has always kept it simple in it’s DLC regard for the most part. Every 3 months or so, 3 maps for 10 bucks, or 800 MSP. Only exception is the Anniversary map pack.

That’s like asking why expansion packs used to exist.

It’s extra ‘official’ content.

When I’m in a full team party and we all have the DLC the maps come up all the time. If someone in your group doesn’t have the DLC or you play with all randoms the DLC maps don’t, and actually can’t, come up for the vote.

Not this. Not this at all.

The reason no one bought DLC in Reach is because Reach is the low point of the series. Halo 4, however, probably won’t be the low point of the series, and as a result, more people will want to buy whatever DLC it may have…

unless people make a faulty generalization based on Reach, in which case Halo 4 will then suffer from the same problem that they wanted to avoid, and it will be their fault.

You guys’s “prophecy” is wrong, but if you adhere to it, you’ll make it self-fulfilling.

If 343 releases dlc in the first 2 months halo 4 is released, I will not buy it right away. If after 6 months the population is still healthy, then it should be okay to buy it.

There is no point in buying DLC since there are no DLC playlists.

The one that exists now is absolutely horrendous.
