Why does multiplayer have a story and why are it's cutscenes so bad?

Yeah 343 feels the need to inject lore into multiplayer. Which isn’t needed IMO. It’s kinda been their downfall since H4. I remember during the build up for H4 some one at 343 when talking about multiplayer they said I think we finally answered why a red Spartan would be fighting a blue Spartan… I was like who asked that? Multiplayer wasn’t campaign related it was just a fun part of the game. Kinda makes me wonder if they are trying to get rid of campaign all together and just have an online multiplayer game. I get a vibe that 343 isn’t into making campaigns any more and that is why this campaign was so lack luster.

“They’re wolves, back from the hunt.”
If it was an unfriendly ship, it should’ve been shot down long before it got into range of a fortified instilation like that. Every scene was dumb.

Also as much as I love the Rakhasha set (it looks dope without you even needing to unlock anything, whilst MK7 looks lame out of the gate) it’s a bit too much to have it a canononical armour spartans wear. (it could probably benefit from more back armour too)

Maybe something innies cooked up to counter spartans. Or maybe UNSC manufacturing and logistics is really spread out so these kinds of things happen (even though Mjolnir’s a closely guarded secret and the bodysuit’s physical enhancement technologies are well ahead of anything the Covenant have.

Prototypes
Visually similar to MkVII

I can somewhat overlook that aspect.
Agryna being forced in the way she is, not so much.
Putting the battle visualised in the first video on another planet, earlier in the H-C war gives her far more time to have a plausible backstory, and, in my opinion, makes her more interesting, and, less “forced”?

As portrayed now, I got a feeling of, I don’t know, Mary Sue, in term of better words. She was a kid, aged, enlisted and quickly became a Spartan as well as got enough done to become a Base Commander over what I assume is a “high prestige” base, due to the name of it. Other Spartans with more experience could be used. Things happen too fast, and to happen that fast she needs to be extremely extraordinary.

Now, consider “New London”, as I’ve liked to dub it. It gives her time to grow up, enlist, train and gain experience combatting the Covenant. She’s seen some stuff. There are untold stories there. She got into the S4 program because she was in good shape, fit the possible profiling and had the experience for it.

It wouldn’t shock me at his point to be honest, but I will at least give 343 credit for one thing (literally this one thing) and say that Halo Infinites story is step in the right direction at the very least and they did say they want to put more effort into the story going forward. Now if they meant the MP story or the SP story I have no idea, but the MP story just feels like they should have put their efforts towards something else that actually matters.

343 at this point at least as far as management goes, only cares about making money and it’s showing. The fact some of the issues people complained about that were in season 1 that are still in season 2 that really seem like they wouldn’t be hard changes to make (like a global progression system), just shows where 343’s priorities are. Also if it’s a staff issue and if it’s a thing they don’t want to overwork their workers (which I don’t want them to either by any stretch), then maybe I dunno, they should hire back some of the contractors as actual employees that worked on the game in the first place so they have the proper staff to work on a live service game?

The cutscenes are straight up Spartan Ops bad. 343 has always tried to push this idea that Spartan IVs don’t take anything seriously. And it always comes attached with cheesy, cartoonish characters.

It’s not even that, it’s artistic license. 343 used the same excuse for Halo 4, and why everyone was wearing Mark 6 MOD and the Elites were Storm Covenant instead of regular Covenant in those cutscenes.

I’m starting to think its not a Spartan IV thing and a ‘343 can’t write military sci-fi’ thing.

H4 and H5 both had everyone acting really weird militarlity. 343 has always treated chief more like a super hero than as a super soldier in a much grander story.

I just got my first -week complete- cutscene
It’s terrible.

343 seems to think AI are magic. This first came to my attention with Halo 4, with Cortana abusing hardlight despite the absence of physical emitters that can project such light, but it continues on here. Iratus is causing the UNSC computer he’s in to emit red lightning despite, y’know, that’s certainly something you need hardware to do. And the fact that he can do that should be terrifying? Your computer is emitting red electricity? Call the engineers! Everything would be broken! Yet this is brushed off? At the very least, Iratus has enough control over the systems he’s in to create a dangerous burst of energy into the outside world?

This is an AI in a computer, not a demon under a magical seal. Science. We’re in a science fiction setting. Pretend we’re using science a little harder.

It should go without saying, but I’m actually annoyed that we managed to resolve the conflict? Like, I played too much elmination deathmatch in a computer simulation, a spartan has been saved! Whut? This should’ve been the leadup for a firefight mission or something.

Everything Agryna says remains cringe.

100% this. Palmer was never a bad character for Halo. She wasn’t necessarily a likeable character by any stretch and I’m sure people’s opinions vary drastically on that. But fundamentally everything about her character made sense in universe, and you cared about her, her words & her actions. Even if that means wanting to scream in her face how terrible she is for shooting Halsey.

Agryna has been shoehorned into these multiplayer cinematics out of nowhere with virtually no plot relevance, a nonsensical backstory and cheesey dialogue. There is no reason to care about her or respect her as a character cause she’s a completely unnecessary addition that doesn’t really fit in the first place.

They’d be better off axing the character, replacing them with an existing character from previous games (or expanded universe material, just not from thin air like agryna), and then having the MP storyline actually talk about plot relevant stuff.

(Side note, I don’t know when exactly the MP storyline is set but I heard rumours it is in the 6 month period between the loss of the infinity & the main campaign. That sounds really interesting if true. I don’t wanna experience that through Agryna tho)

This reads like an Act Man clickbait video title lol.

I think the cutscenes are fine. The story is interesting, at least imo. We just need more than 10 second snippets. I’ve seen rollercoaster rides with more lore than the Multiplayer Narrative atm

Hopefully the MP cutscenes lead us into the new campaign DLC where we get to use are own Spartan 4s there are other characters in the Halo verse.

Personally, I often space out when most Halo cut scenes come on. While I love the base game (have played maybe half the mainline games), I don’t really care for the lore

I can maybe remember a few of the set pieces from the games I’ve played, but the over arcing storyline ~ no idea

My friend and I have played through all the halo campaigns more times than I can count, it wasn’t until about 2 years ago that he finally realized what a Halo was. :man_facepalming:

If they want to redeem Palmer, and Arganya, they need to return to Spartan ops.

But we need it bigger and better like the campaign.

We need EXACTLY what OP said. Were soldiers we need a briefing, a cutscene of us traveling and a nice sized open world cell to do our mission on.

Call it FireOps, and make it so the mode can be played without story attachments as well. Up to 8 players, with a full assault mode of just attacking a keep (classic style FF)
Or and expedition (free roam with objectives and a fortress fight at the end)

Change the landscape and story as we progress but ENOUGH of this “You’re training Spartan.” Just to have us all die in-between cutscenes.

The use of canon mp Spartans was also a lazy attempt at trying to make sure elites stayed out of MP.

New release, new cutscene.

Plot: None
Just watch a supposedly well trained super soldier wearing half a ton of gear struggle with the recoil of a common Assault Rifle. She talks at you, saying nothing of value.

Why? This is just a cringeworthy waste of resources.
