Why does MCC still require a GOLD Subscription to play online?

Halo Infinite is free to play on both Xbox and PC.
Halo MCC on Xbox requires a gold subscription for online features.
Halo MCC if I play through my steam version, while on the same Xbox account, is free to play online.

All this does is make me play on PC and not use my Xbox Series X. But I want to use my Xbox. My Xbox Series X is for Halo and relaxing on my couch. On my 4K TV, not my 1080p PC monitor.

My PC is for other games, not for holding a 130 GB game that should be played on my console.

So why is this still a thing in 2023?

I feel like this post is kind of you just bragging… but I agree wth your post.

All pay to play games on Xbox require gold to play online. Even free to play games had this requirement up until a few years ago. MCC is no exception.

Unfortunately, you have to pay a monthly fee to access
multiplayer.

Yet it’s free on PC with the same account.

And despite that it’s still gold locked on Xbox. All Windows store games don’t require gold, probably because PC players wouldn’t play if that were the case. As long as console players are willing to pay for online, subscriptions will always be a paywall for consoles.

Yeah let’s make MCC “free” so it can go down the same road as Infinite. It’s sad the direction gaming has taken. Before paid dlc would get you actual game changing content like new maps. Now you get low quality games and maps for cosmetics that you used to earn in game. And yeah before every one comes in with but Lethal map pack divided the multiplayer base… I would rather have that and a great game versus a mediocre “free” game with an almost entire community complaining how bad the game is and a rapidly declining population.

Nothing new here. This is the way it has always been for Xbox games available on PC. MCC isn’t free to play on Xbox so you have to pay to play. Simple as that.

There are rumors that Xbox Live Gold will be done away with at some point due to the growth of Gamepass. Then Xbox will be more like PC in terms of access.

I would dare to say that, technically, the gold subscription to play online would only be to play through the xbox network, which has always been paid for the safety of the players.

Well, apparently didn’t work for Infinite.

Have you seen the cosmetics added to MCC? It went down the same road as Infinite a long time ago.
Difference is MCC gives you the ability to toggle all the awful stuff off.

that toggle is also a bit contentious given what it disables for certain games.

RIP restored Halo Reach content.

How so? You don’t have to complete challenges for the cosmetics in MCC. The challenges are optional and theybare better as they don’t really force you into any specific game most of the time. There aren’t many game/mode specific challenges. Also none are behind a over priced pay wall. MCC unlock system is WAY better than Infinite.

Oh, I meant how out of place and obnoxious they looked. That’s my main gripe with Infinite, mistakenly thought that was what you were talking about
