Why does it feel like Halo Infinite multiplayer is harder than normal

It feels for competitive and all the players are always pros.

the aiming is different from the other games… not sure how but the feel is different
they also mix casual and sweaty game types so u can find urself on a increadably easy to play game mode or find urself being teabagged in a increadably sweaty game mode

TrueSkill2 and terrible netcode. In other words, you’re fighting the game and your opponents at the same time.

Probably a lot of discontent from lower level players is narrowing down the player base to the more die hard s and generally better players. In order to keep you from having to wait forever to get a game you’re being matched up with a lot of different skill levels. I’ve noticed ranked has been super tough lately. I’ve been getting thrown in with people way better than me and it makes it tough. I made the mistake of doing my ranking a few weeeks after starting to play after a long hiatus from halo amd ended up low silver. after about 70+ hours of gameplay and completing the s2 battle pass I feel I’m much better but I’m constantly getting matched with upper platinum players in ranked. Makes it tough to advance for sure. I still like a challenge but I’ve seen some games that are destined to lose from the start after seeming how the other team plays.

Simple answer strict sbmm in casual and the game not prioritizing connection when looking for a match

It absolutely has to do with the dwindled player base. So because of that, most of the people that are still playing are good, if not great at the game. Look at it this way, if you keep playing and continuously improve, once forge and/or the battle royale comes out and populates halo again, you will be above average for sure!

There is a new phantom MMR rating that is hidden in the game. It’s known as True skill…the higher your rating the worse it can be for you. Bare in mind it does not correlate with your actual rank…silver gold platinum.

So it may take you if you are a high MMR rated player and place you with lower skilled players and in the numbers game it makes sense. But in the real world it can hurt you. Teams are created in matchmaking based off the average team rating for MMR. Ive played against Onyx lvl players which I don’t mind…however I can win if members of my team are too low in MMR and can’t stay alive.

Halo 5 used truskill algorithm which affectively predicted the outcome of matches 50% of the time.

Halo infinite uses truskill 2, which effectively predicts the outcome 60% of the time.

Basically, the game is better at putting you into challenging matches than it has ever been.

So it is harder.

Halo Infinite has a much faster pace of combat.

This is my first ever halo game where I could play multiplayer so it was hard at first to win at all.

There is no social team slayer in Halo Infinite but we have it in team doubles.
This is a slap in the face for all fans of team slayer.

And when 343 fixes desync, ranked, adds more maps, and more content.

There is social - but lack of ranked is disappointing

Halo 5 upgraded its skill assessor from TS1 to TS2 in early 2018 (if I remember correctly) and upgraded its matchmaker to TrueMatch (a computer learning system — the same system that’s in Infinite) in early 2020.

TS2’s predictive accuracy in Halo 5 was ~70%. I imagine its similarly accurate in Infinite.

TS1’s predictive accuracy was somewhere between 52-58%.

One of the primary reasons I believe Infinite feels more difficult is because the aim assists are the least they’ve been in any Halo title to date. And this is on purpose as a result of the developers trying to balance cross-platform crossplay and different control inputs.

Another primary reason is related to the design of the sandbox. Many of the weapons are designed to be most effective when paired with another complementary weapon. This increases the dependence on team fire/team play and learning to pair complementary weapons. I think this negatively impacts solo casual players more so than in past titles. Not to mention, lots of combat encounters end up finishing in a melee and the melee often acts strange. Not sure if it’s in part because of people playing on various platforms (Xbox Ones, Xbox Series, various PCs).

Cheers man, you’re right. I didn’t know they changed stuff up until shortly after posting.

Can’t disagree with any of this tbh - though the BR feels easier IMO

The BR does feel like one of the easiest weapons to control within the sandbox and with its minimal to no recoil plus higher aim assist it’s offset with having one of the slowest TTKs in the sandbox.
