Why does Halo not have multiplayer AI?

Why does Halo not have AI for multiplayer but games like COD or even games that are mostly online only like Star Wars Battlefront 2? Is it just few people wanted it or was it something else?

I think it’s because it wouldn’t really work well with Halo. Halo plays very differently than the games you mentioned. Movement is much more free in Halo than it is in other games, so programming competent and challenging AI for MP wouldn’t really be possible.

Halo is more competitive, with AI can’t be the same.

Lack of will , it could be done if they had the will and desire too. Cod for all its shortcomings do an excellent job in this regard . The movement patterns of jump sprint ,prone chamber crouch , in modern titles wall running double jumping are all handled well as a routes ,flanking route and various degrees of difficulty . I’ve played a lot of bot matches in cod games and even played around with movement settings and time to kill to see if I could make it feel a bit closer to halo . doom 2016 is another example of good bot programming as well . Halo could and should absolutely do it , the quality of life it gives the title after the masses move on are well worth the investment as well as people who want to learn maps or just play particular modes/ settings that appeal to them without lobby wait times

Halo’s AI pathing is pretty cumbersome from what I have read. The AI needs quite a bit of pathing in order to function and this all breaks down when you introduce forge objects. Another big challenge is emulating human actions. Most of the AI in every Halo game typically don’t need to play like humans, they have their own gimmicks like taking cover or just standing around idle. On a map like Prisoner with a huge emphasis on vertical gameplay and spawn control, it would seem very difficult to program the AI to play effectively. In general Bungie’s engine was never well suited for offline bots, and it seems like 343i tried to rectify this with Halo 5 with WZ AI, but nothing really interesting came out of that. Halo Infinite could have a more modular way of creating AI, but for all currently existing entries it would seem to be a massive amount of work and likely memory to implement them.

In general, it is extremely difficult to make a bot that can play on-par with a player unless you give the AI abilities the player doesn’t have. To illustrate how hard the bots fare against the player, go into a campaign level with a lot of friendly marines, and see how many you can kill before they kill you. The AI just can’t compete with the player.

Yes COD does have some good bots for sure and it would be very nice to have them since people like me don’t have Xbox live gold unless there are free trials so while it’s requried for MCC Halo 5 does need bots.
