Great game?
I’ve found the Star Wars movies to be a perfect analogy for my expectations for Infinite. The original bungie trilogy would be a new hope, empire, and Jedi. Almost universally loved, almost to the point of being a detriment to anything that comes after. ODST and Reach would be Rogue one, a bit outside the norm but nonetheless worthy and solid inclusions. 4 and guardians would be the prequels, controversial with both having some highs and real lows.
That brings me to Infinite, which I expect to be similar to Force Awakens. Simultaneously being a continuation and soft reboot, it will heavily rely on nostalgia and somewhat of a return to form while still being a new entry. Like force awakens, I think it will be mostly enjoyed but very few people will consider it the best of the series.
That being said, I hope I’m wrong and it completely blows me away becoming my new favorite.

Wouldn’t that make Infinite more like Revenge of the Sith if it follows trilogy format? Good movie, btw.

I meant more as generations of installments, not necessarily a direct one movie to one game comparison.
This may be a stretch of analogy BUT…
think of it like getting laid. After a longer waiting period more and more things that maybe wouldn’t be “your cup of tea” start looking better and better. We’ve gone without a newer FPS Halo for a longer than average time period. Although the game (based on December Inside Infinite) does look like “my cup of tea”. LOLZ

Oh boy, if Halo Infinite is The Force Awakens, it means that, after a promising start, the two next installments will be a horrible mess that will completely ruin my love for the franchise… but then 343 will regain a bit of trust making a terrific game about Master Chief escorting an adorable Baby Prophet.
I really liked the gameplay trailer, but it’s hard to put my finger on why exactly. I believe the best levels in the series usually involve large open areas with vehicles and lots of options for how to engage (or avoid) combat, and Halo Infinite seems to be designed all around that. I’m not really a big fan of open world games, I think they tend to waste my time with pointless cattle manure – pardon my French. But for Halo… it just feels right. I don’t think a Halo game can possibly bore me to death like a FarCry game because in Halo combat is actually fun and engaging, you’re not shooting at sitting ducks, you’re interacting with a smart AI that challenges you to play tactically and think on your feet and you have lots of toys at your disposal that will make even the same fight feel unique and new every time you replay it. Even a bad Halo game (cough, cough, Halo 5, cough…) is better than most of the others first person shooters around.

I can only hope they don’t force that intersectional crap on us like they did in the last 3 movies and Terminator, etc. If they keep going down the same road as they have been with H4 & H5 with modest improvements, we should be ok. If not, I’ll just sell it after a couple hours like I did C&C 4: The Game That Shall Be Mentioned.

I have to offer a dissenting opinion.
I don’t agree with the analogy from Reach onwards.
Personally, I consider Reach to be one of their biggest cinematic missteps to date. That’s not to say that that game wasn’t well made and didn’t play well, but from a storytelling perspective.
The Fall of Reach was written before the game was made, so I didn’t understand at the time, and still don’t, why they didn’t just stick with the Chief as the protagonist (or even another S-II) instead of inserting a new series of characters into a new storyline which threw a lot of storytelling out of whack.
Additionally, I personally consider H4 to be one of my most well-written games to date. The fitting culmination to everything built up from Halo CE. It was how it was handled afterwards which was the problem.
I don’t understand why they did such a good job of sending off Cortana and humanising Chief only to dash that with the very next instalment in a manner that was completely contrary.
Infinite, however, I have high hopes for. Mostly because I must as a loyal fan, but also partly because there is so much great supporting material, and we know that 343i (at least I do with my opinion on H4) can churn out really great storytelling.
I personally think that Halo Infinite is going to be a great game. I’m saying that as a huge fan of Halo but also hopefully just from an objective standpoint and wanting Halo to be great. I think the campaign gameplay they showed off looked like a lot of fun. The potential of an open world Halo ring to explore has me excited, and from the looks of the demo thruster pack seems to be gone. I didn’t really mind thruster pack in Halo 5 but I think not having thruster pack will make multiplayer a bit better in my opinion. All in all I think the gameplay, art style, and overall direction they are going with Infinite looks like a great direction.
Thanks

Agreed with all the above bold/italicized. What a let down H5 was in the story telling department after what I believed a great send off for Cortana in H4. If 343i cannot match or exceed that same ‘send-off’ of Cortana with Infinite…it will be forever viewed as a failure in the handling of Cortana’s character.

If we did compare them to sequel formats, I would say that H4 & H5 have been comparable to the Disney Star Wars sequel trilogy episodes 7-9.

ROTS is one of my favorite movies, and my favorite Star Wars movie
Revenge of the Sith is one of the best Star Wars movies, certainly compared to the other prequel entries (which had some bright spots). I personally prefer Empire Strikes back and Return of the Jedi. I love seeing Luke and Darth Vader’s story.

Well for me Halo 1 and 2 are kinda Episode 4, 5, 6, Halo 3 and Reach like the Prequels [I really like that the worlds Star Wars actually take place is more explained, more colourfull] and well ODST is the Rogue One and… 4 and 5 are the Sequels… Like good marketing but what came out was a pain in the back, only looking on the population counter

I should hope it is a great deal better than the derivative drivel of the first sequel trilogy movie. If Infinite is as bad as the Force Awakens, then my disappointment will be immeasurable.
