Why does Halo Infinite feel so awkward aiming with the right stick?

Halo Infinite is the first Halo title where it feels like 343i EXPECTS you to always aim with the left stick. In every other Halo game you can easily aim with both the left stick and the right stick, but in Halo Infinite, the aim assist is so severe that tracking with the right stick is like wading through cement half the time.

Using the left stick to aim destroys the utilization of strafing because how can you strafe to dodge your opponents gunfire, if your strafing in the same direction your opponent is moving exactly? Hoping for a patch or drop pod fix to this.

Bud, you don’t aim with right stick, you do it with left trigger. Now I could understand using the stick when aiming back in the older halos to use the binoculars. But infinites a bit different with the smart link on guns.

The left trigger, as in the same button used to throw grenades? Why? More importantly how do you track with a trigger over a joystick?

Brother I think you absolutely screwed up your controls. Are you on Xbox or pc?

Aiming as in moving the cursor. Not aiming down sights.

Hmmm. Yes. Miss-communication I’ve had, stupid I feel. Go hide in swamp, I shall.

I know what you mean. My Acc is 3, H 7, V 7, and even when i turn it down it feels like i am being punishment for using my right stick during a gunfight. I am talking micro adjustments. I do have my dead zones tight but even if i reset to default it still happens. It also moves and looks like a slug. None of the other games played like this one.

I am on a PC. I don’t have the consoles nor do I want them for a long time, when my laptop I paid a premium for achieving easy upgradability in a portable design.

OP, here’s one of the better videos I’ve found that does a good summary of maximizing you’re aim assist. It’s a small channel I don’t know a ton about, but there’s ~3 different vids he does that have pretty good breakdowns if Infinite’s aim assist.

https://youtu. be/YphnoZXGCms
(Delete the space between youtu. and be/ ).

In Infinite, your ā€œsticky aimā€ literally shuts off whenever you stop moving your left stick. I’m fairly certain it shuts off if you jump too.

(ā€œSticky aimā€ is when the game helps you keep your crosshair on a target once you’ve gotten them in your reticule. It’s only one mechanic of the aim assist package overall though)

That same youtuber, AboveAverageCody, also has two very good videos about controller settings.

Set the centre dead zones as low as you can go without drift.

Put maximum threshold to 15 on the left/move stick (quicker strafe) and 0 on the right/look stick (smoother aim).

Similarly, to help this, put axial deadzone low (eg 0) on the left and higher (eg. 10 to 12) on the right.

And if you have an Elite 2, change the left stick behaviour to ā€œaggressiveā€.

I’ve had a little muck around - and the max threshold definitely makes a difference. The other settings more subtle.

Just don’t do what I did and accidently press ā€˜X’ to restore defaults in the middle of a game! :frowning:

:rofl::rofl: omgosh that sounds awful. I have no idea what would go through my mind if I did that! I know you play ranked a lot, hopefully this was in a social game

You have to tweak the heck out of your deadzones, and even then it feels a little weird and takes time to get used to. It doesn’t feel like any other halo in that regards

I think an increased emphasis on strafes and crouches instead of jumps in gun fights is actually a call back to CE combat. That’s the only title where a lot of the combat loop was counter strafing and crouching if you weren’t playing cover.

Alors la on en tient un bon serieux . il y a vraiment des gens debile pour sortir ce genre de connerie .vraiment un cassos

This whole problem is made worse by having all the different variables that PC players demand.

For me I wish it was just one controller option
Speed of 1-10

TRY FOV SETTINGS :

I could never replicate the feeling of all the other Halo’s aiming system despite trying every combo.

Switched my FOV to 82 then tweaked my setting which do not resemble anything like the 100’s of guides I’ve watched on you tube and it’s made all the difference.
CHANGE FOV and your aim will get better

Why are you aiming with the right stick? You aim with the left bro.

Only thing you need to do with right stick is micro-adjust your reticle.

There’s hella videos on YouTube about changing your axial dead zones and input thresholds to allow better correctional/responsive controls.

For example: my left stick settings allow me to strafe insanely fast and unpredictably, while my right stick allows me to accurately adjust my reticle to a precise hit box location, allowing me to just do all the ā€œaimingā€ with my left stick.

Use the left stick to guide the reticle and match the pattern of the target. Use the right stick to micro-adjust the reticle, should the target move in a different pattern than the current direction of your left stick.

This is the first Halo game where I’ve realized I have to aim with solely my movement stick.

My FOV is already 120. That isn’t the problem. I will try the Max Input Threshold idea.

Ah okay, that says a lot, I’m on Xbox so when you said how the controls responded in my mind I was like ā€œwhat did this man’s do to his controls!?!ā€ good to know it’s pc and not Xbox. Thanks!

I don’t know if I’m getting this backwards… but I think lower is better for aiming.

A lot of the guides suggest max of 100.

Downside is you lose peripheral vision and a sense of speed (a bit like Halo 3)… but the enemy appear bigger on your screen for the same distance away.

And definitely set the max threshold. 15 on move. 0 on look.

And if you have an Elite II - change the stick calibration on the left to aggressive.
