Seriously??? Why does halo 5 take up so much space compared to halo MCC and halo reach. Soon halo 5 will be the only game available on my Xbox.

Try a portable hard drive. You can get a TB for a reasonable price these days.

I will have to do that. I’m still curious on why it takes up so much space when there is like no gamemodes at all.

Graphics, reqs, sandbox, DLC, maps, weapons, enemies, the AI, useless crap

But halo MCC has way more and doesn’t take up as much space…

I agree, there are many other games on the Xbox One with a ton more content than Halo 5, yet they’re a fraction of the size. I believe Gears 4 will be very big too.
Game modes barely take up file space, its largely graphical stuff like enemies, vehicles, weapons, and maps, and all the reqs. As time progresses these things get larger and larger for quality purposes.
Pretty sure with all the reqs and armors, h5 has the largest sandbox of any halo game. Yes there’s alot of minor tweaks visually, but each one is its own clump of data.
Halo 1-3 could only go up to 7.8ish gb at most due to the limitations of DVD’s. CE’s only about a gig, h2 probably isnt much bigger.
The only difference in filesize between Oddball (2001) vs Oddball (2016) would be the graphics for the ball.
Each line of code required to make the game work, takes up space, all REQs, all of multiplayer, all of campaign, all of forge, AI, UI, graphics, textures, sound, making the game run smooth aka FPS.
In the end it all adds up, and as Urbane said, games of the late 90s-early 00s were tiny due to limitations on both software and hardware. >2010 I’d say is only gonna get bigger.
Well Content does not equal bigger size. It mostly due to the plethora of reskinned and recycled req items. Forge is quite big too.

It’s not just Halo 5 but a lot of games do the MCC, Destiny etc. it’s not just an Xbox issue it also happens on PS4 to. I really want to know why the gigantic size games take up this console cycle. At most last generation it was 5 GBS with a ton of DLC now it sells 30GB is the norm.

No it isn’t big. Content is just poorly optimised compiles. True a lot of the content is just reskins, REQ items but it’s more down to the higher resolution textures in certain areas that take up a lot of the game. Even Halo Reach had more content and took up less space so it’s just down to how they managed their files.

REQ content is available without having to download any updates. Only maps, bug fixes, and maybe gamemodes require definite updates and space on your HDD. I think the REQ service is entirely on the cloud, and so may not take up anything on your HDD.
Mainly the textures for the maps, reqs and armours etc. And of course all the millions of lines of code that bind it all together. Also i believe game audio files are absolutely massive these days to ensure quality. Halo loads very fast compared to a lot of games in my experience, so it might be something to do with making the experience smoother but I honestly don’t know. This isn’t a problem for me cos I picked up a 5TB Seagate HDD for only £110, I know it sucks but it’s honestly a worthwhile investment. I have 118 games installed currently including every single piece of Halo content available on Xbox One, and I’m only sitting at 37% used. Games seem to load faster as well as the USB 3 connection seems to be faster than the internal drives SATA. Word of advice if you want to pick up a HDD, it’s got to be a minimum of 256gb and HAS to be USB 3. If you can, you should.

Yes it does seem like the REQ system is just locked content. Most of the content from things like REQ’s are just reskins of things that can easily be found in the campaign, multiplayer, etc… Even forge editor probably existed since forge maps were included at launch and well I doubt they could exist without forge to load up the maps. Everything in the game was unfinished so they’ve been trying to patch things on the go so they could attempt to complete the multiplayer, forge later on but instead it led to countless bugs.
When games like Battlefield 4, Battlefront, and the Witcher 3 all have double the content, maps that are triple the size, and hundreds of NPCs, and yet are still smaller than Halo 5? That’s a problem. Halo 5 is starting to become unnecessarily large. The amount of content it has isn’t the issue, it’s the optimization of said content that is.

Sadly true, it’s really annoying that we get sub-par maps for BTB and yet Battlefield has proven that last gen we could have big maps without plenty of room to explore while 343i have done anything of that, we’re forced with small maps or endless forge maps based on small canvas’s.
Its a “next” gen game with like six free DLC updates VS a handful of last gen games. Its pretty easy to tell why Halo 5 is so large.
Because the devs don’t seem to wanna compress any of their files
I’d prefer a game with good gameplay over graphics. The graphics are just a treat. I want a functioning game.
Half the space is probably those ugly armor re-skins
