First of all, I thought the trailer was AWESOMESAUCE.
Anyway.
Cortana’s chip was destroyed in Halo 4 (remember in Midnight when the Didact destroyed her pedestal?) so why does he have one now? Does he believe that he can find Cortana, or perhaps another AI that could help him (Mendicant Bias, maybe)?
Always with the Mendicant Bias. Does anyone ever think about Offensive Bias?
Anyway. He’s carrying the chip, I think, because he’s searching for Cortana. He wants to have some way to carry her, in whatever state he finds her. Presumably he was given this chip (or stole it?) before whatever travels led him to this place.

That makes sense. As for why Mendicant Bias and not Offensive Bias… well, it could be either one… but we know that Mendicant Bias was on the Ark in Halo 3, so he might still be there (I think the desert area we saw might well have been the Ark).

Isn’t Offensive Bias blue? That Seeker had orange lights.
I’m pretty sure cortana’s chip pulls at least 1 teleporting act in halo 4 (on midnight no less). As in, you put her in 1 terminal go somewhere else, and retrieve her.

True… but then the whole ship was destroyed in a nuclear explosion (:
So it’s not likely IMO that Chief recovered her chip.

Its an AI chip that he’s converted into a dogtag. Its to remind him what he’s fighting for most likely.
The way he clutches the chip like the dogtag of a fallen soldier and clenches it when the Forerunner winged thing appears, clearly he’s keeping it as a reminder of Cortana’s sacrifice and a symbol of his planned vengeance against the Forerunners. At least, that is the message I gleaned from the teaser.
I hope he can get back Cortana, and it would sorta make sense that he does try, the first trilogy was pretty much about him losing Cortana and saving her again, why not the same but a more dramatic twist of the second trilogy!
In a way I kind of hope Cortana is gone forever. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a great character and I’ll miss her, but it’d be kind of annoying if 343 made a huge deal out of her death and then brought her back again.

I think Jen would be rather pissed about her character getting killed off in the first act of a trilogy.
I would be bad if they just brought her back from the grave like it was nothing cough SUPERMAN cough They have to hit the right balance to bring her back and make it feel right.

343 likes cliches so I think we’ll be seeing lots of Cortana.

To me it’s placement in the trailer is yet another device meant to represent the loss the Chief suffered and the need to replace/resurrect/revive her???
Personally, I don’t think Cortana comes back per sae - I’m thinking it’s going to be more of a metamorphosis that takes place - a symbiotic integration of the Chief with the essence of Cortana.
… I kind of hope I’m wrong and this doesn’t happen. I just wouldn’t like it as a plot development because its too predictable and boring(too much of a “and they lived happily ever after” ending).
