Why Does An Armor Set Cost $20?

This is sadly the era we live in, I expect revolving armor sets with limited time and price slash “deals”

Gotta say that’s extremely Hyperbolic.

“343 doesn’t care” is the antithesis of Halo Infinites existence.

All thanks to that 0.001% of players that will spend that money and the kids that charge their irresponsible parent’s accounts. Still remember the good ole days of people complaining about 3 solid maps (which all played better than halo 5 free maps for instance) for 10 dollars, miss those days. Will see about the infinite quality maps (live fire still feels to small for 4v4, more like a doubles map, bazaars game flow sucks).

I’ll be real - I will use microsoft rewards (if you aren’t using this and you work an office job - you really should) on anything I end up wanting, never real money lol. Even then, I’d rather use my rewards on game pass, games or accessories. Not some silly halo kitty island adventure barbie dress up pack.

Of course they don’t. They literally replaced one predatory system with another after trying to act like there making it F2P to benefit everyone even if it has the opposite effect while at the same time trying to see what they can get away with. I kind of feel like 343i thinks we’re all idiots for some odd reason. The only difference between Halo 5 and Infinite is multiplayer can be played for free with restrictions while increasing the amount of PC cheaters due it going F2P.

I agree. I have no problems putting money into this game. I want to support 343 and like you said its free to play so they need to make money. It also means we will see plenty of free content. The price of the battle pass is not that bad, but I do think there should be more free content. The prices of the bundles in store however is way to high.

Like you said, being a F2P game, this was going to happen, eventually. However, your suggestions were pretty good and definitely agree with you :facepunch:

The insane thing is, that you are even charged for simple color schemes. As a game artist I can tell you, that with the right setup in the background, a new color scheme takes them probably less than 15 minutes to create. Of course there is more to get this scheme published/implemented etc, so after 15 minutes it is not DONE, but for anything how it looks to me, they probably have a pretty good mask setup for texturing, allowing them to quickly iterate on colors on certain areas of the armor. These portions will most likely work almost identical through all different armors (so for e.g. helmet mask A,B,C etc) to ensure that they are applicable to all pieces. No hassle with the proper tools which you can assume that they use as a AAA studio.

Of course everything 3D modelling wise (and later rigging, skinning etc) has to be done properly and is a lot of work - so don’t get me wrong, there IS a ton of work behind a lot of the customizations happening.

BUT the pricing etc is just totally out of scope. Let’s say you have to pay 2$ for a coating/color combination. If only 1 million players spend that money, they made 2 million $ with what is probably less than half a day of actual work from the artist side. Now you have hundreds of those, plus BP, plus armor packs etc etc.
On the other side you have to spend almost a whole day playing the game to earn it otherwise.

NOTE: This is a very simplified calculation - but you’ll probably get the idea.

And that is the biggest issue with F2P - yes, they need to earn money on the game, even more so because the campaign is also available in the gamepass, shrinking the income on that one, too. But right now they fall into the same pit as EA did with Battlefront 2 (with loot boxes it was even worse) which is anything but “players first”. And I don’t blame the actual developers. These decisions are made by management that doesn’t care a lot about player satisfaction or gameplay or anything that is beyond earning the most money for the least effort.

But the simple thing you can do is: don’t buy. Don’t buy the Premium pass and don’t buy any of the other overpriced content unless they change their system so it actually becomes somewhat balanced.

EDIT: just enjoy the free multiplayer - because aside from these greedy offers, the game actually is really good - actually to me it feels, looks and plays like the closest we’ve ever been to a proper continuation of H3.
So don’t boycott the whole thing, just don’t fall for the microtransactions.

im gonna be grinding every battle pass but the item shop just sucks so much money out of me i never want to touch it.

$20 is way too much for what is being offered. 343 needs to adjust pricing along with the progression. The battlepass price is fine but $10 for a helmet? $15 for Blue? Thats just wack.

This is all subjective, you aren’t missing out on anything. There is no disadvantage for them too, no reason to change it. I mean people have bought the bundles after all.

That’s just current gaming. It’s no different then buy COD and Fortnite Skins. The problem is the progression system is shit. You’ll have to pay for a battle pass every time from the looks of it.

Unlike other games you can get free in game money and purchase the battle pass but only enough in game money if you complete the previous one. I can understand maybe it doesn’t give you exactly a 1000 credits but still… Really? Or people can use that to get XP Boost and keep paying for the Battle Pass Premium. Terrible, progression and customization already feels to locked behind pay wall.

Woah hold up, no radar in ranked was the best thing 343 has done for halo. You can actually outmaneuver now. The audio is complete crap, but at least aggression is rewarding in ranked now.

Radar being removed from ranked is the way it should be. They removed it literally based on all of the bad feedback they got from feedback based on Halo 5 ranked. Also, what does Radar in ranked have to do with egregious cost of things in store lol

Sign of the times. I’ve said that I’ll purchase the battlepass for earned cosmetics but I will never, NEVER buy armour from the store.

Besides dunking on someone while using default skin is the best.

Need more free armour unlocks however.

I agree, it is very excessive charging $20. Not only because it’s a few items, but also because they’re restricted to one core only.

I live in canada, over here if i wanna buy the zveda armour set i have to pay 30$ (25.99 plus tax), which i far more then any other f2p game has ever asked of me for ingame skins. Its absolutely abhorrent how much money they are trying to milk the fans for, especially since most will shill the money anyways cause the bp challenges are broken and xp is non existent, why waste ur time with the bp when u can shill 30$ for a full set

Remember the simpler times of Halo 2 when there was no customization and people still played the game endlessly? Cosmetics don’t have an effect on gameplay so I think people are making way too big of a deal out of this. The game is free to play, not free to customize.

I’d rather have a competent teammate with no customization than some dork shooting at walls with the coolest looking armor.
