Why Does An Armor Set Cost $20?

I was taking a look at the battle pass, which to upgrade to premium is $10. Fine this is a F2P model I get that, but then I look at the store and see armor set bundles not included in the battle pass going for $20? Did I miss something? Why are there so many FOMO bundles in the shop when 343 has said they want to put the player first. Please tell me that I glossed over them in the battle pass.

I would make these changes to improve the current system. (11/23 Edit)

  • Give all campaign purchasers access to the premium battle pass

  • Guarantee that all non-promotional items are at least part of the battle pass or premium currency is grindable at a fair rate.

  • Reduce the price for bundles outside of the battle pass. If someone only wants to buy the enigma helmet and nothing else, they shouldn’t be charged the same price as the battle pass. Make them $5 for a set and $1 for individual pieces.

Welcome to the modern era of gaming, where your non-cosmetic DLC is free but individual cosmetics are worth as much as large fractions of full-price games and they can disappear at any moment!

Basically you pay those that made the coating and gave em 20 bucks buuut MS want a share of that as well and so on and so forth. No Im not trying to excuse the pricing, just trying to understand how it works. I might be wrong

I’m pretty sure most employees just get a salary and maybe a bonus or two if they produce really high sales/profits. But you are correct in that a large portion of the cost probably goes back to Microsoft to make their development cost back as well as fund future development of the game.

Yeah my thought as well But those 500 dollar skins in certain games like valorant? Defenition of insanity!

Yeah I think I’ll be sticking to the Battle Pass. The AU$15 price tag on that already felt steep when I’ve bought brilliant indie games for the same price.

$20 is 1/3 of a brand new damn game. JFC 343

And this is why I hate live service games. I like Halo Infinite but I have seen other games do worse. Already support them with the campaign so I feel like there pushing their luck with MT.

It’s the free-to-play model where maybe <10% of people will drop money on that €20 skin, but those are the types of people they want to cash in on… especially when there will no doubt be people who don’t but the pass, and just buy the armour they see for instant sale that they like.

several months ago I talked about how this game would be microtransactioned to the hills and people called me crazy…

and well…I hate to say I told you so…but $20 skins are here

It’s has been a very rough time to have any skepticism around here. I also brought up these concerns the moment F2P was announced.

Just wanted to say I told you so and everyone else on the forum but all of y’all just said I was crying about useless stuff

Just don’t buy them, they add nothing to the game, you can’t even see your spartan while playing.
don’t worry about it, just play the game and chill.

The real kicker? We don’t even know if all non-cosmetic DLC will actually be free. They haven’t said anything about how campaign expansions will be handled.

$60 for just the campaign, on top of the atrociously overpriced “micro”-transactions, and obscenely grindy season passes? I really wouldn’t be surprised if they went with charging for campaign expansions, too.

The armor doesn’t look anything special either. Way too expensive.

hugely agreed. I would consider reasonably paying $70 for the full package with campaign, forge, co-op, multiplayer, and firefight, but if I’m paying $60 for the campaign then have to pay $10 every three months to have any armor customization options, I’m out.

really puts it into perspective, but at the same time, I kinda get it from a money standpoint. Games are way more profitable with a subscription/microtransaction setup even if they don’t take advantage of gambling.

the duality of free games

Yeh this is irritating. Kind of feels like paying for a full game due to campaign then be told multiplayer is free just so they can try dismiss complaints about MT. Earning anything seems tedious at the moment.

Free to play was a mistake…
