Why does Aim Assist fall off on Shield Break?

How can there be a reasonable debate if you’re admitting if you recreate the issue, it’s going to look just like over aiming? The only way it’ll look like over aiming is simply by over aiming.

If you can recreate the issue by showing both display and your controller, show the “over aiming” is being done by the game and not by the user actually over aiming, meaning the user does not give any input to RS then yeah you’ll prove your point. Until then, it’s all just words.

Once again you have demonstrated that you don’t understand the issue.

There is no “recreating” the issue like you can to show that aim assist exists…it has only ever happened to me (and most likely other players( during the frantic full speed gameplay against other opponents in matchmaking. I don’t have the recording equipment or desire to purchase the items required to even attempt to replicate this in a custom game so it is under test conditions.

Like I have said many times now, any video that I could do with my equipment (record screen clip on Xbox) would only look like a player has either bad aim or is over aiming, and this simply does not show the “feel” of the moment of the AA drop off whilst you were on target and the adjustments that need to be made in order to track back on target once the reticle literally slips and flies off (which often ends in circling as you try to fight back against whatever has happened in game).

I can’t replicate this issue for all the reasons stated…and even said numerous times that it would be nigh on impossible or at least very difficult to capture this. Until someone is able to capture this, it’s just the words of hundreds/thousands of players that are experiencing this issue and that should not be dismissed out of hand…just like we shouldn’t dismiss many of the issues in this game (such as desync) because we can’t substantiate these claims without video evidence or back end data.

IMO, the issue is likely tied to either desync in combo with aim sens/accel taking you out of the AA cone, but with the data we have, I’m not sure we can state accurately which is the cause. My basis for this is that the issue doesn’t appear to happen with customs on a LAN, which is about the purest way you can measure AA the way it’s supposed to work in multiplayer. It’s my understanding that this is how @ItzTheDay did his testing. And given that we know lots of people experience this issue, we know that the videos on LAN customs show no AA issues as reported, and we know that the production MP infrastructure is saddled with desync issues - then we can assume it’ll play a role. However, the exact nature of the interaction we can’t know as we aren’t aware what - if any - role the server’s game state calculations play into AA processing.

My thought (assumption) is basically if the client game gets an update from the server with a game state that doesn’t match the client, then the server’s will likely override the client, and if the update to the game state comes in the middle of a fight, and if the update moves the opponent outside of the user’s AA cone, then it’s reasonable to assume a user’s combo of aim sens and accel take them violently off target when the update decides they’re no longer receiving AA benefits.

IMO, I believe the AA behavior we’ve seen in the LAN customs are the ground truth and what we should expect the production MP behavior to be.

This is why I did do my testing/videos on my LAN connection. This eliminates any hiccups server related. If you also remember, I was looking for some US west coast and UK players to do this testing again on a wide rang of pings.

If 343 would actually investigate this issue already we wouldn’t even be having this argument.

I’m based in the UK and happy to help with any testing. If you’re east coast then we’d most likely connect via Washington DC which is approx 83ms for myself.

I get 5ms ping on DC server.

Again, the test target had little to no movement in your video. The issue is when both are moving at game speed.

I have done testing multiple times. I’ve also assisted others in their own tests as well. And always come to the same conclusion. There is an issue with aim assist.

In this case it is definitionally not the “human” element. I’ve played enough shooters at a above average level to know immediately when there is an issue.

Again though it is possible the issue is cause by a bug and doesn’t effect everyone. I have noticed when I plug in a different controller that’s not a scuf I will start spawning under the map at the beginning of a round. An issue I have submitted a ticket on several times. So weird stuff does happen.

Cool, so now let us see this testing.

Can’t. As I’ve mentioned before and as @K0NSPIRACY has mentioned before you can’t capture it on camera because at full game speed it just looks like a normal missed shot. It’s a feeling. You can feel when aim assist drops off or completely turns off all together. Even when slowing down the video it doesn’t accurately represent what’s happening on screen. I’ve been trying different tests and options to see if I can capture it. And when I do I’ll be more then happy to share the video with you.

I have to question why is it that you are so fixated on having video evidence to support pretty much every single debate about this game?

We, as a community of players, all want the game to get better and improve, so I really don’t understand your partisan attitude on this matter. Is it because there may be some tedious link that counters your ongoing war between controller and M&K?

Your average person will see issues being reported, evaluate what has been said, look at any evidence where applicable, consider how many people are reporting the issue, and draw a conclusion as to whether it’s BS or not. As an example, I don’t play on PC but I absolutely understand the claims that PC players may be at a disadvantage with regards to aim assist (albeit they also have undeniable advantages over controller players too) and I acknowledge this by the simple fact that lots of players are reporting this to be an issue without needing to see any video evidence in a test game.

So why is that when you are implicitly told by numerous controller players that aim assist breaks in certain scenarios (that also happen to be inconsistent and intermittent) that you demand video evidence for any such issue to be believed and taken seriously? I don’t feel the need to repeat my previous explanations as to why this is nigh on impossible to prove via video evidence, however I am genuinely interested as to why you can’t take the word of your fellow gamers especially when it doesn’t even effect you in any way, shape or form…it’s literally just another inherent bug in the game which you had absolutely nothing to do with creating so why is believing this such an issue for you? Are you like this in all aspects of your life?

We’ve been down this road with him already. He has no evidence to back his claims regarding “everyone just has bad aim” to the point that everyone just ignores him. Kinda surprised he’s still trying to press this when, as you stated before, hundreds of thousands of players (including pro players, which ItzTheDay already mentioned he doesn’t follow in the least because he thinks HCS is boring) have reported aim assist lessons when certain things happen, such as jumping and when the enemy no longer has shields.

Because this is a video game we’re talking about here, which is visual. So anything that is claimed can be easily captured. All this talk about “full game speed” is nonsense. Full game speed, what the actual F is that. This is the first time I’m hearing of that term ever used.

Anyway, this is all visual. So if aim assist is turning/falling off it would be very obvious to see this, not just feel it. Same as aim assist, isn’t that a feeling also? You can very well see aim assist working in videos.

Which is total BS, I’m calling it like it is.

@K0NSPIRACY You’re the one missing the point. Gaming is visual, there’s no denying that. If this issue you’re claiming is something you feel, they you should be able to also feel it without looking at your screen but that’s impossible. Why? Because it’s visual. If you can’t present the issue to an audience because it’s something you just have to feel for yourself, then the issue is you and not the game.

We have kids claiming there’s input lag because he’s moving his sticks faster than the game can natively register. I’m sure he moves his sticks around with his palm as fast as he can while actually playing the game.

Finally caught a clip of what we’re talking about. Obviously it look’s on video as if I missed my shot but it wasn’t me. The weird circle movement is a key give away as there is nothing to stop/slow the response curve as you near your target. As mentioned in the recent Season 1 take away blog it’s most likely a bug but this is the annoying moments in the game people are talking about.

@K0NSPIRACY is this similar in your experience as well?

Basically yes. Obviously you had the Bulldog so I’m not sure if AA is at all present at that range but replace if with the BR and that would look very similar…but as I’ve said many many times in this thread, it just looks like bad aim or over aiming.

I also posted that it is a “feeling” but I can’t find my explanation of that in this thread so must be elsewhere…the “feeling” is eye to hand co-ordination which is a must have skill in all ball sports and also in FPS games. I shouldn’t have to explain this but we all have eye to hand co-ordination (it’s a basic human sense) and muscle memory, so when something unexpected happens that breaks our natural eye to hand co-ordination and muscle memory then that cannot be captured solely by video evidence.

Edit:
Found the post…

Edit2:
Anyways, 343i have now acknowledged these reported issues with AA and are investigating:

Note: Some controller players believe aim-assist stops mid-game, on opponent’s shield break, or when jumping

When it comes to aim assist, there are no intended moments where aim assist turns off on shield break or jumping. However, we have seen players report that this could be happening under certain conditions and are investigating. Again, this would be a bug though as there is no instance where you would have your weapon up and in range of an opponent, and not get aim assist when firing.

Well hopefully it gets fixed soon because it’s annoying.

Absolutely. As I’ve also said previously, what makes this even more annoying, infuriating and frustrating is that it is an intermittent issue…however, that is consistent with what 343i have acknowledged as it being a bug.

The issue hasn’t affected me much lately tbh. Once I became aware of the issue a few months ago, I intentionally changed my style of play to try to crouch/sprint/slide more rather than jump…or the alternative which I am doing now, and that is barely ever playing the game anymore.

For this issue to be acknowledged and investigated by 343i suggests that this is a widely reported issue and not just a few threads on here…or may be gaining traction from the reports of pro players and content providers. Either way, it is a good thing that it is at least being investigated and we’ll have to wait and see if there’s any resolution.

It does fall off.

But it isn’t the computer. It is you.
You get a burst of excitement in your brain and briefly lose focus. So your aim becomes less reliable.
