Why does Aim Assist fall off on Shield Break?

There is nothing more frustrating then getting into a close range BR fight only to jump and lose aim assist. Is this actually intended?

It’s intended, also jumping causes you to lose aim assist as well. This is why I recommend players to crouch strafe when they wanna jump because losing aim assist because of a shield popping + jumping equals literally no aim assist at all. Keep it on the ground helps a lil bit.

This explains a LOT. I always thought it was weird that as soon as the shields pop my aim consistency plummets.

It’s probably intended as a catch-up mechanic…

Which is bad. It’s a bad mechanic.

So it’s an actual feature? Wow.

Does aim assist break while sliding too?

im wondering if what you are describing is what others are seeing with their controller issues.
myself and others have been reporting that the look sensitivity is extremely fast (as in much faster than what is configured in our settings)

ive not noticed any aim assist breaking when jumping…

It’s an actual feature. Unlike previous Halo games, in HI, jumping lessens the aim assist. Also, once the enemy has their shields broken the aim assist will lessen as well. So if you’re jumping while breaking your shields, you’re going to have a REALLY bad time lol

I wouldn’t even do the whole “crouch strafe” either. You’d most likely give them a free headshot when your shields break because they’re aiming for the body already and you just placed your head where they’re already aiming at. I get lots of kills because of this.

Thank you i wasn’t aware that it was intentional. I wonder why it’s like this.

Its been proven that shields popping & jumping don’t break AA.
If your losing AA its cos you aint tracking good enough to maintain AA

Seriously? People are still claiming this?

Nothing happens with aim assist.

Showing aim assist does not “turn off” when shields are broke and/or jumping…

Showing how strong aim assist really is…

Sure, it’s intended. Keep thinking that. It’s really something how people claim all these lies and myths as facts, and they stick with it.

This is totally false.

Nothing happens with aim assist regardless of shield level and/or jumping.

No need to wonder anything, because nothing happens with aim assist.

The claim has been when you the “user” jumps aim assist falls off.
In your video you show the opponent jumping.

If you play any previous Halo then come to Infinite there is something noticeably different especially when shields are broken. Something happens when it comes down to the final shot.

I haven’t been able to recreate it locally but some battles feel as if the AA just decides to fall off in online MP.

False, I provided both scenarios in each video.

Here’s the original topic I made covering all the myths and lies…

I’ll be looking into this today when I’m playing.

I knew you’d arrive in this thread with your video evidence! :joy:

Genuine question…we all know that aiming with left stick is the best way to stay on target, so could it be that aim assist feels like it drops off more for those players that rely on right stick for aiming adjustments in these scenarios? Have you tested if this is the case for right stick aiming in your videos?

Also, could it have anything to do with each players sensitivity, acceleration and input threshold settings particularly for the look thumbstick?

Your videos are nice, but it is an undeniable fact that aiming in Infinite is different than previous Halo titles.

Yep, debunking the myths that are still being passed around.

I haven’t testing that, my main reason for those videos was to show that aim assist does work and is strong. I personally think people are just over aiming too much that they’re knocking their reticle out of the AA range and they’re over correcting their aim. Controller pros also do this, but they have more/better muscle memory to correct their over aiming and and can “feel” when the aim assist is active then they focus more on their LS rather than the RS.

Possible, but my videos more point to aim assist does work regardless of people saying “It’s an actual feature”, “it’s intended” and so on.

But like I said, I think it’s more on the lines on user error.

Jus goin off of what Snakebite said, and I do feel the lack of aim assist while I’M jumping, not the enemy player.

I checked the thread.

The point is there is something weird that happens on shield break during online games.

Going into a local game with a single player on the same connection isn’t the same as going into an online match with 8 players. The targeting clearly doesn’t act the same as previous titles.

I think it’s entirely possible actually, I’ll test when i get home today.
If you think about it. if your acceleration clicks in the moment you are supposed to get the lock, one could take precedent over the other. That’s just a theory though.
