Why does AI Arbiter not fire the Sniper Rifle?

As I am sure most of us know, In Halo 3, when Arbiter gets knocked out you can get him to use a different weapon when he gets back up (he’s a zombie!) by simply dropping your weapon of choice next to him while making sure that his original weapons aren’t close enough that he will pick them up. However, it seems that when he is made to use a sniper, he never fires it at all! I believe this also applies to the Beam Rifle. Why is this? Why does he not fire those weapons?

Never knew about this trick! 13 years later and there are still new things to learn about a masterpiece of a game. I don’t know the exact reason, but my guess is Bungie programmed Arbiter to fire only a select few weapons so he doesn’t become an OP ally who carries you through every mission. Does he fire the Rocket Launcher and Fuel Rod Gun?

Yes, he does indeed fire the Fuel Rod Gun, and so I should think he would fire the Rocket Launcher as well, although I never gave him one yet since I put priority on Covenant weapons (Elite honour and all that). But it does kind of nullify the ‘weapon restriction to avoid being overpowered’ theory. This seems to be a thing with the two sniper weapons in particular, and I can’t understand why. Maybe it is something to do with the sniper/beam rifle itself.

This is a very interesting question. I am greatly intrigued and would really like to know the answer.
