I understand people didnt like it because it had bloom, weapons, map, armor lock and blah blah blah. To me I felt Reach was the best of all the Halo’s thus far, reason being, Halo 4 feels to much like CoD and that killed gaming with Halo, I can play Reach but I dont have any interesting friends to play it with. Halo 4 lacks too much and falls short of Halo except for the Campaign, which was the best IMO. MM, Forge, Theater, and Customs have fallen short from everything.
Halo Reach I found everything to be amazing. Forge World and the options it gave us, the gametypes, the customiztion, armor effects, campaign, MM nd customs, pretty much everything up scaled from Halo 3, armor abilities added something new and I loved everyone of them. Armor lock was not bad and until Bungie actually updated it, it played fairly well.
Why cant 343i just go to these forums and ASK or have a forums part to where we can discuss developer and community on what we would like in the next installment? I feel Halo might fall short if 343i keeps thinking their ideas are better.
Could you guys shed some hope for my feel for gming once again?
343 does take many ideas from the community into consideration when making their games.
Example: The community said they hated Bloom in Reach, 343 reduces Bloom in Halo 4, the community says they reduced it too much.
Example: Community wanted BR back, 343 brings it back in Halo 4, community complains because the BR isn’t the #1 rifle.
343 has to be careful of what they do implement from the community because they are irrational sometimes.
For most players, the changes between Halo 3 and Reach meant Reach was not as fun as Halo 3. Players could take you out with the DMR from across the map, frustrate you with Armor Lock, and destroy your cover with Jet Packs. Shields were weaker, and melee was definitely weaker. Frankly, if you were bad at competitive play, you died more often than in any other Halo game. Dying more often is not fun. Hence the criticism and drop in popularity.
> frustrate you with Armor Lock
Well, I guess this is just one example of the improvements Halo 4 brings you.
Personally, I like the way in which, if someone ‘hardlight-shields’ you can simply try to walk around them and stab the s*** out of them.
- no offense to AL-users, and also, no offense to HS- users
In my irrelevant opinion Reach was / is the best game EVER!
It’s just so epic in size and scope, I really felt like putting the disc into the console was like visiting a whole planet:- REACH.
Some things irritated me like Armour lock, but also AL made for some funny, frustrating chaotic moments, that added variety and depth to the gameplay.
Forge and theatre just blew anything else out of the water.
Even games released after like BF3 could not implement such feature (Even Halo4 to an extent).
Nothing in Halo4 matches the team work, layered, multi armed combat (Infantry, armour, air-power) and huge maps involved with invasion.
Custom games - endless possibilities, friends inviting me to all sorts of crazy gametypes…
etc etc etc.
I don’t think another game will ever compare to Halo Reach. People hated it because they could not rely on the simple equations that gaurenteed winning in previous titles.
Now some on the Halo4 forum are saying Reach’s online population is actually bigger than H4’s!!!
It my opinion, Reach is better than Halo 4 just because it actually feels somewhat like Halo. But I would say that Reach was the best Halo ever.
I don’t mind playing Halo Reach and I agree, it’s far better than Halo 4. Halow 4 just took away too much of the competitive game play and added in to much randomness. They added so much that I just couldn’t and can’t even play it. They really dropped the ball and it’s a shame.
Anyways, many people didn’t and don’t like Halo Reach because Halo was so much better. Halo Reach added in sprint, jet pack and other abilities, and then added in the bloom. The bloom wasn’t as much of a big deal but trust me when I tell you that’s it’s aggrevatting when I put someone one shot with him not even puting but 1 shot on me…but then I come up losing because not 1 of my 6 head shots would registet in close range. The bloom was a silly thing to add…but it didn’t destroy the game. The abilities destroyed the game somewhat…but not too bad really. In the end, Halo Reach is leaps and bounds better than Halo 4…but reach was not better than Halo 3. Halo 3 had everything going for it. They added some buble shields, lifts, just some small things that really made the game more fun but didn’t effect the intergrity of players skills and ability to kill others fairly. The maps were fantastic as well…in addition to the rating system 1-50 which was leaps and bounds better than reach…and halo 4 doesn’t have a rating system. Even when it does, it won’t mean anything since the game remove the the skill part of the game. For instance, when I go +10 1v1, I don’t expect to lose to a person that went +1 against me just because he received bonuses for killing me things like stinky grenande…expecially when the whole purpose of using that sticky grenade was because his skill in shooting wasn’t good enough. So in the end, HALO 4 is the worse game in the halo series, halo 3 was the best…halo 2 prob outbeats reach, then reach, then halo1…only because halo 1 didn’t really have multiplayer at the time I presume. halo reach is still fun though and I play it…but I cannot play halo 4 due to it losing all it’s integrity and taking no skill.
To sum it up, people didn’t like reach because of it’s bad rating system, the armor abilities, and the bloom. That is peanuts in comparison to how bad 343 ruined the game of halo 4 though. i can literally list 20 things wrong with Halo 4…only 3 with reach, none with halo 3, etc.
> It my opinion, Reach is better than Halo 4 just because it actually feels somewhat like Halo. But I would say that Reach was the best Halo ever.
Ok I can agree that Reach is ten times better than Halo 4 because it was terrible but Halo reach wasn’t the best halo either, not remotely, it didn’t feel like a halo game. It was more about random explosions, less about the endless posibilites like in halo 2 when I didn’t expect to jump onto a scarab while reach just seriously linear.
It’s just a vocal minority that are trying to push their own agenda. Most developers have learned to ignore these people but since 343i is new they think they speak for everybody. Which is why all the changes they made in Reach were bad ideas and every step forward they took back in Halo 4 were also bad ideas.

I meant wasn’t, typo. It is what I get for typing too fast. Halo 2/3 was the best Halos for me.
REACH was like one of the best halos ever
I agree I really like Reach. I have so much fun playing it. I think the reason alot of people didn’t like it was because it was pretty different from Halo 3. The graphics were pretty different and so was the gameplay. I like that, though. I like how they made it pretty different. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Halo 3, but, I really like Reach aswell.
Halo Reach is the best Halo to date in my opinion, just because of the shear amount of options it provides.
I can see people hating reach for multiple reasons relating to just the multiplayer component, like AA’s and Bloom.
As a game as a whole Halo Reach is amazing.
> Dying more often is not fun. Hence the criticism and drop in popularity.
but dying and learning from it is what makes a good fps, if someone dies over and over again they learn a little from each death by watching what they did and how they died, and when you start to get better it feels really rewarding because YOU earn those kills, the reason i play halo PC multiplayer to this day over games like call of duty or halo 2 is because it relies on your skill and your judgement alone and while not brutally unforgiving still punishes you for mistakes forcing you to adapt, not what equipment or gadget you selected, and while i feel halo 2 still had the skill element it was far too forgiving because of the regenerating health on top of a shield that also regenerates. which is why i was so happy when playing reach again, if you got hurt you had to try not to make encounters last long or avoid them all together to find a health pack, if the armor abilities were lockable to one specific ability by the host i think it would have helped a lot with all the problems in reach because everyone would be on a level playing feild
I played reach after not playing for 2+ months tonight for a good 3.5 hours with friends. While most matches were fun it’s those few moments or games where you are clearly the better player but cheap crap rips you off. Even the small things like shooting a guy with a shotgun point blank range and he somehow lives and you die or the overpowered nades that insta-kill you even when you have full shields.
I almost never experience that level of frustration in halo 3 but Reach and Halo 4 has all sorts of BS like that which really ruins the game. I might high a high k/d and solid headshots but it doesn’t mean jack if you lose a game because one little moment that should have killed a player doesn’t.
My only issue with Reach is I wish that they would integrate the feature from Halo 4 to where you don’t loose your weapon zoom when shot. I’ll take the hits, but let me keep my aim.
Other than that Reach to me is as good as Halo CE, and the first Halo game since CE that I played and just never wanted to put down. The the main reasons I think were the story line was something new and different, just straight desperation fighting and no Flood which was stupid to me, and the fact that I could build and control the appearance of my Spartan made it more personal allowing more of a connection to the character…

I have die quit often, it is still fun, but tells me I need to try harder, do something different, and improve. Though since Halo 4 came out I am confusing some of the controls…keep trying to press the left analog stick to run, for example…Though over all Reach kicks the junk out of Halo 4 though, and like the classic halo game play…
Move speed, jump height, being forced to use DMR, armor lock, invasion never did get proper support, map packs that I never once saw in matchmaking outside the dead population playlists, sword base = worst map in any halo game ever(also unbelievably popular), btb on disc maps were horrid,
I miss the grenade launcher though , it was nice , and forge worked better along with being infinitely better for custom games. But that’s all I remember fondly offhand.
Oh c’mon you know how it goes. You HAVE to hate the latest iteration of Halo as not being truly “Halo”.
“Halo 4 sucks so hard compared to Reach which was horrible compared to H3 which blew compared to the awesomeness that was H2 though that was terribad when compared to CE even though CE was awful compared to what it could have been on the Mac.”
It’s whiny little -Yoinks!- stamping their foot and shrieking that the game isn’t EXACTLY the way they want it.
People were pushed away primarily by the vanilla settings (full bloom, AL, etc.). While they were pretty bad, I stuck it out and experienced the great TU. The other thing that a lot of people didn’t like was the lack of DLC support.
Even though I say it’s the worst Halo, I still think it’s an overall solid game.
