we’ve been asking for this since the first flight, yet still we can only play borderless. true fullscreen gives a massive performance boost as well as removing input delay for certain people, yet for some reason they just refuse to add it. is there a certain reason? does microsoft just not let them? its an issue with a lot of microsott games on pc, i get that theyre all console ports but surely its possible to make true fullscreen… i just genuinely want to know why from 343 themselves e_e there must be a good reason
In the last blog post re: the 2nd tech test, they said they had alot of people asking for Exclusive Fullscreen but they responded that there isn’t actually a performance boost vs Borderless windowed - DX12 uses full screen optimisations on windows 10/11 - so pretty much if the game is in focus, and there are no other programs open in the same display as the game, then the game will have full access to the hardware, just the same as exclusive fullscreen does. You can read about it on the blog post they made, and also linked a post from MS dev site regarding Exclusive fullscreen vs Borderless windowed and DX12, which is where I got the above info from.
They did however say they will also look into adding exclusive fullscreen into the game some time after launch, eventhough there isn’t really a benefit to using it
I run an sli/Nvidia surround setup. I need exclusive Fullscreen for the game actually use both GPUs. So there is definitely a performance boost for me.
Borderless windowed doesn’t have a performance penalty anymore, like it used to. It would still be nice for them to add the option though.
It does have a performance hit on my set up. Of the game is not exclusive Fullscreen, both GPUs do not get used. SLI/Nvidia surround.
From my understanding, for directx 12, SLI support is managed by the application, so it would be up to 343 to explicitly implement SLI support. Could be wrong but I believe it’s independent from FSE vs BFS
The performance things may be true, however a lot of people still suffer from input delay, which is most likely caused by the lack of true fullscreen. I get that DX12 is cool and all but I still don’t get why the option was just never there. I hope they really do add true fullscreen sometime.
They should just give people the choice.
There is performance loss on my system for sure. They are being lazy. That is the only problem. I’m literally to the point of being pissed about this. Every other games give the option. Fire your coder and get a new one that will do it. FFS we need the option.
Because they love the -Yoink!-
The big problem here, is that there IS in fact a loss in performance. Some of use run older cards and older CPUs. Exclusive full screen allows the game to run unobstructed by any background processes. I have ran dozens of games in all three modes (borderless, fake fullscreen, and exclusive fullscreen.) There is 100% a measurable difference in all these games. For these…expletive…to say that there simply isn’t one is assenine. Clearly you have a slew of players requesting this and writing in multiple places about this problem. But they like that thumb up there you know where, so the response we get is a smug grin (think cable company in South Park) and “There is no difference.”
I say to them, come play on my PC I invite you so you can see for yourself, since clearly everyone who supports you and pays your salary doesn’t have meaningful enough input.
I’m surprised hardly anyone is talking about the benefit to changing the resolution with fullscreen mode you can’t do that with borderless fullscreen mode in Infinite it would help to lower the overall vram usage for those running the game on low vram graphic cards.
because… it’s a f2p game, with potentially 10 year live service, they’re working on it, it’l come in a future update in a few months.
like how Vanguard zombies has to have a future update for a pause button. Infinite has to have a future update for full fullscreen
Real problem is…you can’t use driver-level integer upscaling techniques, 'cause they require the exclusive fullscreen mode.
Lowering the render resolution basically does the same thing.
If you accept blurring due to upscaling filtering. Integer Upscaling is brutal but sharp (and performs betters), and it would be perfect with no AA option.
In case that God of War on PC doesn’t have fullscreen option neither,I think it is a trend for the future game…
Use Flawless Widescreen for both games, it works great!
