Why do you want/not want BR/DMR?

Just curious. Personally, I liked the ultimate ownage of the DMR but liked how the Battle Rifle could be countered with a lot more weapons. I’d have to go for the BR, as the game felt more fair. And believe it or not, I don’t like having a massive upper hand, I’d prefer a challenge and I think of being in the shoes of others. Thinking of how they aren’t having fun not standing a chance.

But yeah, why do you want or not want either gun?

The Br is a staple of Halo gameplay. I’ve come to love the thing. The burst function with a touch of spread (in h4, spread should be more predictable than the one bullet firing somewhere outrageous) is excellent and promotes continuing consistency while aiming. With a one shot weapon, it is sweep and shoot. Simple enough. With the Br, it was sweep, shoot, and maintain. You had to continue to aim at the head throughout the entire burst.

From this perspective, I much prefer the BR. The burst function also plays a role in keeping the sniper in check. In Reach, I found sniping to be too easy due to the bloom and the lack of constant fire. There is a predictable pause and one could very easily predict when they’d be forced out of scope. This allowed the sniper to be more dominant in Reach. With the BR, the burst allows for more chances to survive and de-scope enemy snipers, which I found to be better for gameplay.

Lastly, along with the BR, I’d like to see the carbine stay in its current form with the capability to be used as a starting weapon. I’d also like another weapon (preferable not a rifle), which plays a role in the same niche as the BR or carbine (perhaps a support weapon of sorts, the sentinal beam and beam rifle in reach fit this to some degree). The magnum should also be included, but with very minor differences from it’s state in Halo 3. A 2x scope and reduced spread would be awesome as a another starting weapon alternative.

This is a previous post I made but found suitable for this topic.

Although I like the DMR more, having it in Halo 4 just wouldn’t fit in the cannon. If the BR is back, make it like it was in the Halo 2 E3 demo, burst un-scoped, single fire scoped.

Also, I hope they don’t make the game solely based around a single weapon, like the BR in Halo 2.

The BR is more balanced, more fun(at least it was for me) and its a Halo classic from H2. Also in story the DMR is only used by the army and the BR is used by the NAVY, chiefs in the NAVY so the BR is there to.

I think the BR should return, but with slightly increased zoom magnification, and semi-auto in zoom, where it fires as fast as you can pull the trigger, and burst un-scoped.

As mentioned above, it fits canon, is more fun to use, and brings balance into the game in many ways like being able to counter snipers better.

I definitely don’t want to use the DMR again.
Besides, the DMR wouldn’t fit canon as it has already been replaced by the BR.
Also, the BR just feels so right in mp. I think weapons like the BR and the Carbine should return.

What this guy said, I prefer the Battle Rifle any day

I’m not a huge fan of either, to be honest. Though I will admit if bloom were integrated correctly the DMR would be more balanced than the BR.

I just don’t like having a single utility weapon, I like a little variety you know? I hated how Halo 3 was either be good with the BR or get the BR first or die. It killed a lot of the game for me to stick to one single weapon, the BR was effective at virtually every range excluding closed in areas and extreme distances.

It made sniping virtually impossible on some maps, which really unnerved me.I want a game with staple weapons for each range and situation, I remember a previous post where someone commented on having multiple utility weapons good within a certain range spectrum while of course having specific weapons built for those ranges. Ex: Shotgun/Sword for Extreme Close Range, Sniper/Beam Rifle at Long Range, etc.

Ex of Utility Within Their Spectrum: AR/ Short Mid to Close Range, Battle Rifle or DMR/Mid to Longer Mid Range but Just out of Reach for a Snipers effective range, etc.

The suggestion added a certain balance to things that most of the Halo games have lacked, and I was all for it.
