Why do you think Halo 4 is the best Halo?

Hello forum!

This will be my last post of tonight so I will not be replying to this thread for a while.

The purpose of this thread is simple, if you think Halo 4 is the best Halo to date or like a particular aspect of Halo 4 then please post why below as I am curious to understand your reasoning. If you don’t think Halo 4 is the best Halo (or think quite the opposite) then please do not interrupt the feedback as I do not want this to become a flame war.

Thanks!

Better to be red, than dead.

EDIT: I will stress this again. DO NOT post in this thread if you will only leave posts not related to the topic at hand. This thread has been designed to find solutions to Halo’s problems by finding out what is ‘good’ in Halo 4. If you don’t think Halo 4 is good then please visit my other thread. https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postst153276_To-those-who-dislike-Halo-4.aspx

Awful for competitive, amazing for social. Neither is right or wrong.

Terrible for both actually.

Since you are asking for a particular aspect, I will give you one.

Spartan Ops…Its something I can look forward to every week and the story is actually rewarding to those who have read the books. Not as much as I would like but still. And new original maps are going to be added in the second half of Season 1. All the more reasons for me to love it.

Glad to see it only took 2 posts before someone either couldn’t be bothered to read the OP, or couldn’t be bothered to respect the OP’s wishes.

On topic, I really enjoyed the campaign, and am working my way through it on Legendary to get my Lone Wolf achieve, which is proving challenging enough and fun.

Come on casual community I am offering the chance for you to tell the forums what makes the game great in your opinion.

Yep.

Why? Because the whole “casual” thing turns Halo into a game that plays exactly like the other 20 CoD-esque games out there.

Trust me, we have enough mainstream shooters. Keep Halo unique.

Why waste keystrokes when the tryhards won’t listen to us? They’re too busy wallowing in denial that we have rightfully taken their beloved franchise from them.

Listen, I hate Halo 4. But I want to know what makes people like it so I can understand everyone’s point of view so tell me; what do you like about Halo 4?

Well, I loved the campaign, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. Sure it wasn’t written by Bungie, oh well they’ve moved on. H4’s multiplayer is what Reach should’ve been. Yeah it’s like Call of Duty but they are doing that kind of multiplayer system better than CoD is. Spartan ops keeps me wanting to come back. Its like a whole new campaign that has tiny chapters that only come out every monday. I’ve been playing Halo since its release for the original Xbox, and every game is pretty dang good. H2 is my fav followed closely by H3 and then H4. The original Halo will always have a shrine my heart. My one request is that they bring back some more old maps like Zanzibar, or some of the bigger maps from H2. yeah H4 has some issues and hopefully 343 will fix it.

Interesting, more posts like this please.

Why state my opinion only when someone will come on and attack it, and then I defend it, and then they attack me, and then I defend it again. Its a process that doesn’t solve anything. People will still hold to their opinions and I can’t change them. So why get attacked for it? I’m tired of the arguing, the ignorance, the insults, its all become very tiresome.

I dislike the word “best” personally. I’ll go with “favorite.” This is definitely my favorite Halo since CE.

My reasons:

[/li]- Campaign. Feels more open and tactical like CE did. Yes, it is interspersed with narrower, more linear Forerunner zones… just like CE was, lest we forget. The solo standoffs against Hunters that are tougher than ever to take down. The open battlefields with lots of opportunities to snipe or take on groups of enemies as I see fit. Being lost on a mysterious world with Cortana, searching for Forerunner secrets. The bridge and platform sections with Banshees flying around. It just feels a lot more like CE than any previous game since CE to me, and that’s what I loved about the first Halo. That sense of mystery, wide open-ness, and tactical freedom interspersed with more focused areas of running and gunning.

  • Spartan Ops. To me, the core gameplay mechanics of Halo are very simple and identifiable: Limited to two weapons promoting frequent weapon swap, shield recharge promoting use of cover, grenade tosses and explosives for (hopefully) AoE, jumping, shooting, tactical choice of how to engage groups of enemies, and vehicles. That is what defines Halo for me. That simple formula. Spartan Ops is one of the purest distillations of that I’ve ever experienced in a Halo game. Some of those missions, when played solo, are the epitome of basic, pure Halo gameplay, story and narrative be -Yoink!-. But then when you add the narrative extension beyond the campaign that it brings, it’s sort of a no-brainer to me. And they’re a blast on Legendary with a friend.

  • War Games. I like the more dynamic, emergent, and unpredictable flow of the matches. I like that a team can be being beaten badly, and get a lucky combination of ordinance drops or gain control of a key vehicle and have some chance of making a come back. I acknowledge fully that, especially in the MLG setting, there could be times when luck plays too large a roll. And that’s why I advocate the inclusion of a classic mode, or alternatively, more fully customizable custom games that rotate in and out of playlists dedicated to more competitive gamers. They are not being catered to enough right now, and imo that should change. But personally, I love War Games. Even when I’m getting “brutally spanked,” as my friend and I put it. Times have changed, and being accessible to new gamers yet hard to master is important in my opinion, and I feel Halo 4’s multiplayer achieves this overall (though with need of a few tweaks and balancing adjustments.)

  • Graphics. This is, for me, the prettiest game on my Xbox 360.

  • Emotional resonance. This game has provided me with one of the most moving single moments in nearly 30 years of gaming.

What can I say? I love the game. Though, it is not perfect, and people’s complaints are both valid and important imo.

As some may know, I hate halo 4, but there are some good things in it. Or perhaps maybe 1 or 2.

  1. The boltshot. I am dead series. I was so excited about this weapon pre-launch, it looked like a highly skilled mauler. Pity it broke CQC. If they toned its range down, and tweaked its charge time, while having it spawn on map rather than a loadout, this would make a perfect addition to the halo franchise.

  2. The sticky detonator. With a bit of tweaking I could easily imagine this in halo 2 and 3. Ofc, spawn on map again.

  3. Maybe the railgun, I’m undecided.

I will express what I think Halo 4 does better than any of the other games.

The mounted machine-gun turret is very effective and rewarding, as a turret should be. Much better that the air-soft turret in Reach.

The vehicles handle a lot better in Halo 4 than they ever have. The warthog is both fun to drive, and handles well in combat, it doesn’t get tossed around to much by grenades, which makes driving more fun. The only problem is that it takes damage to easily from small arms fire. I think that it should only take considerable damage from power weapons, but not from the sniper rifles. I think the same should be applied to all the vehicles to put more emphasis on getting control of the power weapons.

That’s all I can think of.

I believe it could be close to the best Halo, after a year of TU. I expressed my opinions quite well before, so no need to restate.
