so I ran out of Xbox live recently so I wanted to go in a custom game into the map trench to test out a new game type I made. But guess what comes up? MULTIPLAYER REQUIRED
what is this crap? I just wanted to play by myself. Does anyone know why 343 would do this
I wonder if this mean we all need live to just play in forge

I won’t be surprised if they do 343i seriously needs to change this just like OPs situation may come up, they basically can’t play the game anymore they paid $60 or more for campaign with a Xbox live required multiplayer depending on how much you spend is another $60. So if you are new to Xbox live or don’t have the money to renew it its $120~ , custom games should be playable offline we bought this game we own it not temporarily with an online forced requirement of multiplayer people like playing by themselves once in a while.
Wow, that’s dumb.
Sounds like a money making scheme tbh.
All multiplayer modes have dedicated servers, to connect to them you need to be online with a gold membership.
Try going offline it may work then. But its probably because customs run on the dedicated servers
even if they made the game to need the connect because of the dedicated servers and cloud crud, we should at least be able to play with a connection But with or without a gold subscription.

That’s stupid though you need Xbox live to stroll around the maps or even forge. There’s already issues with the disconnects so when you disconnect from forge what happens then you lose all of your hard work. You can’t even rely on your ISP let alone Xbox live or 343i servers.
Ok, dedicated servers are great and all, but no at the expense of solo play in custom games and such. This saddens me so much, and if forge is the same, than I’m done, I’m sorry
In this generation, the entire console platform is built on the presumption that you have an online premium service membership, which was quite clear the day it was revealed. Sure, you can buy an Xbox and still use some functions and play certain games without one, but that’s a sacrificial choice you made.
Consumers have no one to blame but themselves for pricing strategies like this. It’s the same idea behind the free-to-play gaming model, cellphone plans, etc. Drop the up-front cost so people can acquire things they can’t afford and then attempt to entice them to spend more money on periodic offerings afterwards. Since many people are incapable of making rational decisions or controlling their impulses, companies make tons of money with this approach.
Next time you purchase something, consider the total potential costs you might incur and rationalize what level you’re willing to spend to. If you’re okay receiving a half-baked product at a reduced cost, don’t complain that it’s of poor quality. I make this analogy to the Xbox as a whole, not necessarily to Halo specifically.

I agree that it sucks but it makes sense.
The real question is why are you playing halo without X-Box live? It is kind of a requirement to shoot others on-line, and you can’t tell me you plan on playing single-player…
This probably is more leaning towards the new consuls over this individual game, it seems lots of games have something like this that you can’t access something without live. The same things with ps4 as well without there membership its just that new thing where everything has to be online.

OP explained he ran out of Xbox live and wanted to mess around in custom games which is now a mandatory requirement to pay for. If you are the only one playing it should go to your host like as if you were playing campaign. What will happen when campaign is either removed for multiplayer only or you are required online for it. You don’t own the game you’re basically loaning it from 343i with the permission of Microsoft to access it.
Halo didn’t require online to shoot others nor did it require online to use the multiplayer features/maps until now
$60 p/yr XBL
up to 4 free games per month (including 360 games) ones you might actually WANT to play
Seems like a no-brainer to me…

thanks. I get that there’s less importance to it because of no split-screen but in my opinion its still a dirty move. Now I assume forge will have the same case, and that would just break it for me. If campaign is legit the only thing you can play offline, compared to past halo titles where you could split-screen and forge by yourself, it just shows why i’m so disappointed. to those of you who have the privilege of having xbox live all the time every time this may be a small deal, but there’s no denying that its less stuff to do offline compared to past titles
