This blows my mind. The Firefight assist commendation is hard enough, and “wheelmans” don’t count as an assist? Even though in the bottom left corner of the screen it will say “poppin curbs assisted _____ with a kill”?! So pretty much driving the warthog in FF is pointless, and those medals go towards nothing. Sweet.
I allso hate this. But then again it says Be the driver of a vehicle when a passenger gets a kills and there is nothing about assisst in that medal.
It’s because of the logic behind the Assist medal - “causing 40% damage or more without getting a kill.” By following the logic, a vehicle driver is not inflicting any damage on the intended target. Yes, by definition the gunner would not be able to GET that kill without the driver’s expert skills at getting him into position. But Bungie did us no service by saying that an assist is all about damage dealt without a kill.
If you really want to Onyx your FF Backup commendation, I strongly suggest finding a friend who needs any of the weapon commendations such as Dome Inspector, Longshot or Trigger Happy and go into FF Doubles a lot. A friend and I did this and in about 45 days my Backup went from mid-Silver to Onyx before I stopped working on it. How? The person needing assists takes the Armour Lock load-out, complete with Grenade Launcher, while the other person takes Active Camo, complete with Sniper Rifle and DMR. Then pick a small and easily defended map such as Corvette or Courtyard. The person with Grenade Launcher always shoots first - calling out where he’s aiming - and the precision weapons person then rips headshots at will.
During the first round your best bet for Assists will come from Jackals, Brutes and Elites. But once Mythic is added in the 2nd Round, you’ll have a field day getting assists. I averaged about 50 per game doing Arcade in FF Doubles this way. You’ll get way more EMP medals, at least double the number that you get in assists, but it goes a long way toward moving your Backup quickly if you can do about 3-4 games a night - more on FF Thursdays for Challenges.
Do Vehicles spawn on Corvette/Courtyard during Doubles Arcadefight? I’ve been playing Installation to get 4-5 Banshee kills per match…
yeh they do, they spawn on most of the maps during FF doubles arcade fight
be to simple to boost anyways…
Beachhead, Holdout and Installation 04 are probably the most consistent maps to get vehicle kills on. I always manage at least one ghost and one wraith on Beachhead in Doubles and we all know about the banshees on the last two maps lol.
I don’t feel like the vehicles spawn consistently enough on the other maps. I’m usually surprised when I see a Wraith on Corvette or a Ghost on Outpost.

I love driving the Warthog in FF. It’s great watching those medals pile up whilst splattering aliens as they respawn in their little clusters.
If you’re trying to get some FF Assist medals, try to get a Grenade Launcher and constantly use the EMP grenade. It’s a good way to lower the health of an entire group but not kill them (as EMP grenades have pretty crap health against not shields), and if you have a friend working with you, he can get a lot of easy multikills and you get the assists.
It’s a medal… in firefight… Why does it matter to you at all?!

Tried this last night on Courtyard in FF Doubles and was AMAZED at how many assists I got. 77 assists in one game!!! woo hooo.
