Why do weapons disappear?

I go over to pick up a fallen enemies weapon and, it’s gone. I get killed, go to get my weapon back and, it’s gone. What’s up with that? There aren’t any friends or foes nearby. I’m not next to a drop. It just disappears. WHY?!?

I think there are actually three types of weapon and that type dictates whether it will drop.

Loadout, Map and Calldown weapons.

Loadout guns, like the BR, drop when you die and remain for a while after death.

Map guns are picked up from their map spawns, naturally, and remain after you die if you were holding them when you died. I’ve only ever dropped a Spartan Laser on Ragnarok if I was holding it when I dropped dead. If not it just seems to vanish.

Calldown weapon are from Ordnance drops and only seem to persist for a few seconds after you die. This is probably to make it more difficult to control a lot of power weapons on one team.

It makes sense that Loadout weapons drop. Those are the core weapons of the whole Halo4 Arsenal. Likewise, map weapons dropping is sensible since they ARE nuetral weapon dropped into the map itself.

Ordnance weapons are just there to be a help. When you die they are gone, they are supposed to be pretty temporary. That is why, once I’ve called one down, I don’t save ammo often. Best to smash heads ASAP and cause carnage so that if I do get dropped it isn’t so bad.

Not a bad idea.

> Not a bad idea.

Not a bad idea? This about my post? That isn’t my idea. As far as I’ve seen and witnessed in gameplay it actually works that way.

Watch carefully the next time you get a chance. Where the gun comes from changes whether or not it drops when you die. Anyone can drop their BR but the binary Rifle from an Ordnance package only stays for five seconds or so after death.

Annoys me too, I loose a rocket and go right back there and it’s gone. Nobody took it, it just vanished. Noticed the same in Spartan Ops, I’d die and by the time I respawn my gear has evaporated.

because the Xbox 360 is too old now

I couldn’t YOINK agree more… It pisses me off, especially in Spartan Ops when like 34563546543 enemies comes at you with big weapons, you kill them and then BAM you can’t pick it up because it vanishes… FIX IT 343 FFS… You can’t expect me to kill hundreds of enemies with big weapons, and then send me 2908542309 more enemies with my shield gone left over with ordinary weapons… ffs give it up, you can’t be serious…

AAnd its gone!

Ordinance weapons disappear because otherwise the map would be filled with power weapons constantly. Imagine if every ordinance weapon was just left on the map.

Normal weapon drops stay on the map and after dropped just like previous Halo games it seems though.

It’s like this to balance out Score Ordnancedrop, it sure is stupid. It would be better to just remove ordnance drop and have weapons spawn old fashioned arena style, the way they used to do.

Yeah it’s mind boggling as to why 343 decided to delete your power weapons when you die.

I was so confused when I died, dropped a sniper, instantly respwaned, sprinted to point of death, arrived less than 10 seconds after death, aaaaand sniper was gone. No teammates or enemies were around to get it, it just disappeared. WTF mate, W-T-F.

Disagree. If you’ve run out of bullets in your BR and go looking for a BR leaning against a wall like in Halo 3 (pro tip, this doesn’t exist in H4), then you understand why I don’t like this.

They don’t. Still a 13-second despawn if they were moved off their spawn point.

Weapons de-spawn after 10 seconds - however if a player is looking at the weapon and is close enough to make the weapon use the full texture map rather than the blurry distance textures and looks at it for a full 2 seconds, the countdown will keep resetting and the weapon will stick around.

It was done this way to keep there from being too many power weapons present in Infinity gametypes. However it kind of ruins non-Infinity gametypes because the weapons will de-spawn too fast.

Cuz 343 gave it a super short despawn time.

And yet Infinity gametypes are still full of power weapons…

Power weapons: they disappear, despawm to be correct, because you can get one just about anywhere on the map and you can get one by getting kills. As many power weapons there are in a match at once, they should despawm before they even hit the ground. TOO MANY POWER WEAPONS!!!

I remember when knowing where weapons spawned and controlling those locations was a major asset to winning Slayer gametypes. Now it’s just: look on your HUD, look on the radar, kill 5 guys or have one explode in your face via random drop.

I’ve got to wonder if a more open forge mode would have prevented this very problem. Variable despawn times feel like something people would want to mess with in custom games.

They disappear even in the campaign. There is no excuse for that. Completing a weekly challenge with just plasma pistols and storm rifles and the other enemy drops is absolute bonkers.

Sorry, I meant that it wasn’t a bad idea by 343.
