Why do we need to hold x to interact, but M&K users don’t?

I just got insta-hijacked while playing CTF on launch site. It made me question the games performance and left my blood boiling. Then I had the great idea to try some basic interactions in a custom game, with my M&K. I found out that the only way to compete with players who use M&K in these instances is to use the grapple. Swapping guns, getting in vehicles, even dropping your weapon when some chud tosses a plasma/spike grenade at it. M&K users get the advantage of doing all of these things instantly. Is this not a major oversight? There are a couple possible solutions; 343 can give us a slider to determine how long we are required to, “hold,” these vital inputs, or they can give us the option to play in xbox only servers. Personally I’m really hoping it’s the former!

Is the suggestion that M&K players just magnetically attach to vehicles without pushing a key?

I’m a little confused to be honest. As an M&K user the only time I’ve ever had success hijacking anything moving was with a grapple, maybe once when I was anticipating a ghost getting too close and I held down “F” to board.

My guess is that keyboards have many more buttons to map while a controller needs to have multiple functions per button and that usually results in hold vs. instantaneous.

For hijacking, pretty sure you can just hold the button as the vehicle approaches (before you are prompted) and it’ll basically be instantaneous.

Not if it’s moving at a speed of greater than 10 mp/h

What does this mean and what is it in reference to specifically?

Drive faster than 10 mph and you will only have to worry about getting hijacked by people on m&k, same was it functions in MCC

Can you even hijack vehicles traveling fast? I thought they had to be going somewhat slow.

I’m gonna call conjecture at this point unless you have something substantial to back this claim up with.

As a dedicated M&K user across both titles, hijacking at any speed is a coin toss at best in my own experience, so much so that I rarely attempt it without the aid of an EMP weapon or piece of equipment. Anecdotally speaking, from my own experience I feel like most of the time I’m well within range and don’t even get a prompt. I mash my bound key and rarely (if ever) get any sort of action.

When I played Halo in the past on console, I feel like I had the same issue. I don’t think this is an M&K issue my guy, I think this is a personal perception thing.

Literally every time I try to get a new weapon or ability off the rack it takes 1/5 of a second, whereas m&k users can instantly swap regular equipment (repulsor) for power equipment (shield and camo)

They have an undeniably unfair advantage. They can hijack banshees while they are flying at full speed. I can’t even do this on mongeese.

You also can’t deny that desync makes the problem 10x worse.

This compounds with forced crossplay.

Issues which can be solved by devs easily, like this one, are the reason I stopped playing infinite. It just makes me so angry how the, “people,” working at support can’t even give us a straight, “yes, we will try to come up with a solution,” or, “sorry, but we just don’t care enough to fix it.”

Controller layouts are the same. The only difference is that m&k requires you to select a different key to drop weapon, which is honestly WAY better, I wish controller users had the option to do the same. Devs could easily let us map that to d-pad right or d-pad left. Since we still have only 4 grenade types, I would opt to have weapon dropping on a different input, and I could just triple tap the grenade switcher to get from frags to dynamos

Mnk is pretty bad on infinite, you have a big aim advantage with controller so it’s balanced. This is a non issue

It doesn’t even make sense to use button delays as a balancing mechanic.

You’re pressing a button to pick a weapon up as opposed to picking it up yourself, which really isn’t a hard thing to do.

Hit the nail right on the head, thank you

Once again I think this a perception thing, it might seem like they get it from your POV, but theirs most likely has the same interaction as your own. As my own experience using M&K sounds nearly identical to your experience using controller, and not even remotely close to what you assume it plays like.

Once again I feel like the interaction, especially in Infinite, is a bit on the sluggish side of things across both inputs, as it feels like I have to mash the “interact” key because it doesn’t always interact the way I want to it when I want it to.

The “problem” isn’t made worse, because there is no “problem” to begin with. It’s in your head my guy.

The desync/latency just makes the game more frustrating to participate in period.

Now you’re chasing after the wind.

You have yet to verify the claims you’re making about M&K manipulating the efficacy of gameplay mechanics. Don’t start lumping unrelated issues into the mix as you were doing with desync.

The claim you’re making should come with some proof of the claim being asserted.

I think if the devs were to see it in action, it would lend the assertion some credence. Right now it doesn’t have much substance.

Again, this is also compounded by the fact you have nothing substantive to back up the claims being made. How about some documented proof (either data sheet test or video) of input comparisons? Input latency comparisons? Does this change with wireless peripherals (both M&K/Controller)? How about with wired peripherals (USB-C/Micro USB; M&K/Controller)? Does this change between low end and high end PC’s? How about between the various Xbox models? Just spitballing ideas here of course.

Making anecdotal claims doesn’t prove anything, and opens up the door to general anecdotal scrutiny, like is the case with my own experience that contradicts your own claims.

On the other side of the coin, M&K CAN’T use holding the interact button to multitask a single key, and HAVE to use separate keys for every single action, which imo is super annoying. I don’t want to map my whole entire keyboard when controller players only need to map 10 buttons all within thumb and finger reach, including paddle shortcuts. I’d love to be able to multiuse certain keys for tap or hold, but 343 won’t let us. On M&K the same key can’t be used twice, and it sucks

I’m more so worried about ‘X’ being used to do so many things… the other week when I was playing, I killed the flag carrier and the Flag was on the ground with equipment and weapons all around it plus a mongoose was right there… I was in such a hurry to grab the Flag and keep running, so I just held X hoping Flag would take the priority of my button press… but nahhhh I ended up picking up the Commando, realized I missed the flag so I stopped and looked at Flag again, Held X… got on the fudgin MONGOOSE this time! you know what, Fk it… just kill me and return your damn flag.

I feel this when trying to load batteries or the flag into the Razorback and keep hopping in the back seat. Makes me mad as hell man. This game should have obvious target priority. Makes it super aggrivating to pick up the weapon or ability you want in a Fiesta death pile too. The targeting is terrible. Target with the reticle, not with proximity 343

Could also be a gameplay setting, certain players might prefer other targets.

This should be a “setting” of sorts

The weapon drop is also hard bound to whatever you weapon switch bind is, holding weapon switch will drop weapon.
Think you will find most PC players will have off’d the drop button to an out the way key as there is enough buttons to contend with & the last thing anyone wants is to accidently push that & drop a weapon in a fight.
Claiming that a individual key action is a major advantage & the best solution to mitigate this would be xbox only servers is some real mental gymnastic gaslighting.

I play with m/kb accidently grabbing wrong stuff happens to us too, instant pick up don’t resolve that issue.
Amount of times I have thought I switched my frags but didn’t realise I switched out my grapple then thought I was going to make great only to thrust myself of side of map :man_facepalming:
