Like the title asks, why do we need Sprint in Halo? Couldnt the same thing be done with just have a fast base speed and instead using Thruster Pack as that quick movement forward? I dont feel like having to press a button to run when in Halo 1, 2, 3, and Anniversary Game Types in Reach. i could do it by just holding the Left Stick forward, and I could shoot as well. So, fans of Sprint, why do we need it in Halo?
Well sprint is a good feature, it speeds up the gameplay, it was also weird playing the campaign and wondering why master cheif the most badass character ever, always walked. Sprinting just makes sense.

…did you even read what i wrote? I said we did not need to use a button to sprint because the base speed was already fast in those games. Seriously, play Halo 3, and see how fast you go, then, go on Halo Reach and see how fast you go without sprinting. You go alot slower in Reach.
Because It feels better then just “upping” the movement speed. It feels more natural.
But, and im using the same logic sprint supporters use to say sprint should be used, Spartans are Super Soldiers, they should be able to run and shoot.

Have you spent any time walking? Halo’s movement speed is way faster than just walking. It’s more like a constant jog. How many non super soldiers jog and shoot accurately at the same time?
Cause they pay the art team big money so they cant have them do little by making small maps that have little work put in them.
So… yeah, blame the art team and stuff.

Yeah, that would also be good. If the base speed would be faster than the sprint feature would be redundant, I agree. However, it feels more natural in my opinion to have sprint. I think, 343 balanced the feature well in H5.
I used to be pro sprint after playing Halo 4 and liking the feel of it in BTB.
After playing Halo CE and remembering how good / balanced no sprint makes Halo…
I’ll answer this question the best we can can: We don’t.
We have been discussing the inclusion of Sprint in the Halo series since Reach, and even more so with it’s larger inclusion in Halo 4.
I am not here to say you should not have a dialogue about it, or that it should or should not be in the franchise. Because it is here and appears to be staying. But I think the new mechanic of while you are sprinting your shields will not recharge is brilliant.
It never really happened to me, but I have seen in so many places over the years of people complaining about dropping someone’s shields and then they simply run away. I believe this new mechanic can really help with that and it might fix any qualms about Sprint in Halo.
See before, it just felt like sprint was thrown in on top of all the normal Halo mechanics (in Halo 4 I mean). With this new mechanic, I feel is being worked in to the mechanics so they all work together. Instead of Halo with sprint on top it’s Halo with sprint in it, if that makes sense.
Sorry if this is confusing I’m not really sure how to word it.
Because after playing halo 2 again and seeing how spaced the maps are, I think sprint is a great addition
Having seen more gameplay now, sprint seems even more pointless. It does indeed seem more ‘balanced’ than Halo 4 or Reach, I don’t like sprint, but if I was forced to choose I would definitely pick Halo 5 sprint.
That said, between the solid looking base movement speed, thrusters, and the lack of shield recharge, sprint serves no real purpose. Sprint exists to serve the slide and charge functions and that’s about it. The value of sprint as a standalone trait is so low it looks like dead weight.
It feels like it is only there because of the “spartans should be able to sprint” complete nonsense argument and to work for the slide and charge. Its not even that I don’t want sprint at this point, it seems like Halo 5 doesn’t even really want sprint.

If you feel it is indeed pointless then that’s good for you, yes?
Because as I see it, if it’s pointless that means there are going to be people using it still and running around getting themselves killed.
I don’t think it’s pointless, but maybe there’s the silver lining for you.
Well obviously it is not needed. It isn’t needed in arena. Maybe in Campaign and Big Team. I feel they are trying to make sprint so that using it hurts you more than it benefits in Arena modes. This way it would be possible to keep it and it would be beneficial for bigger maps but it wouldn’t hurt Arena maps because you would’t use it. This being said the Arena maps should be made smaller. The betas midship for ex. is way too big.
Easiest way would be removing sprint all together and having it for Campaign only. But that would be too easy wouldn’t it.
Sprint is fine. Map design in Halo 4 was a bigger issue than the inclusion of sprint. Increase base player movement speed and increase sprint speed (maps now play “smaller” but are large enough to accommodate the new movement system). Add in the penalty of getting instantly stopped if you get shot while sprinting. Keep the shield charge delay but increase it by a 2 to 5 seconds.
