Like what is the point? Most shooters don’t have outlines or team colours, so why can’t Halo be like that? I have never needed to know if I was on red or blue team to know what team I was on. Between the giant arrows above teammates head, enemy players having aim assist, and red names above enemy players it was always clear who my teammates were, the colour was the last thing I’d notice. Why can’t we just have blue or green dots above our heads and have red names for enemy players like other games, since the outlines makes it harder to see the coatings people are using.
Considering Teamkill is enabled in most Halo Multiplayer and people sometimes get too focused on whats happening in the game as opposed to the HUD, I think some indication is certainly warranted. There are plenty of accidental team kills in games like Rainbow Six Siege which has outlines and nameplates enabled.

Yes, but it is incredibly hard to intentionally team kill in Halo with most weapons since there is no aim assist on teammates and with the long kill times, and as for low health teammates, accidental team kills happen with the team colour indicators all the time. Plus you could have arrows or dots above peoples teammates heads which was always the primary indicator anyway. If cod can have 100 people running around with the same skin I’m sure Halo can go without outlines.

MnK defeats the whole Aim Assist argument, SWAT in particular has lots of accidental kills because you can one shot headshot anyone in the game. 343 seems to be leaning all the way into the whole accessibility thing, and I think removing any way of telling friend from foe in the in game world isn’t the best idea.

But like I’ve said you can still have dots and arrows like every other game and you still have red names above enemies heads. These are the only indicators most shooters use and most of them just have a generic soldier look that’s impossible to differentiate what team their on. Like I’ve said the colour is the last thing you’ll notice whether someone is friend or foe.
The decision to use the friend or foe outline was probably the result of a compromise due to office politics. Some manager was probably afraid to completely ditch red vs blue so we got this compromise. Plenty of other shooters function well without this type of system.
I personally don’t understand the accessibility argument. As long as it is clear who your friend is (outline, gamer tag, floating icon, whatever) then anything else that looks like a spartan is foe. Movement is what your brain sees first, color comes much later. I’m not bothered by the loss of red v blue, throwing nostalgia aside, but the outlines seemed to make it easier to spot far away or obstructed enemies.
Part of the issue was that in the first flight there wasnt much of a clear indicator over teammates heads, and enemy names barely shower up as well.
Imo then can keep the outlines (separate color options for shields and outlines), but we need an arrow and service tag over teammates’ heads. Not the tiny dot that was in the flight.

Definitely could be the reason right there. I get the being nostalgic (I use to be like that too) but if you’re already ditching armour colours you mine as well go the whole way. I like that we get to show off our personal Spartans more in this game in more than just free for all or infection game modes but having the outlines really diminishes that when it interferes so much with the armour colour.
Red vs Blue has always beign a classic for halo, it always has been super clear who is an ally and who an enemy so far is kind of difficult to get to it, I guess it is the change but hopefully we can return to the red vs blue theme on certain games, you will notice that almost everyone chooses blue colors haha so during game everyone looks almost the same
