With the cartographers gift update, we received forge. Now there are many improvements that have been made. However one little thing that was not mention: Forge requires Xbox live gold. In previous games you did not even need an internet connection to use forge. Why does this have to be the first Halo game that enforces this ridiculous policy/rule?
Because MONEY!

crosses fingers, toes, arms, legs etc.
I understand why people don’t see the need for a gold membership if you’re just forging, but what are you going to do with the map when your done? You won’t have the service needed to share it and you won’t be able to play it because there’s no local multiplayer.

Maybe that has a small part in it but honestly it’s probably due to the fact that there is so many complicated things in the game physics wise. Needing to calculate whether or not this object should interact with this object and vis a vi can take up a lot of disc space. This Forge, with some added scripting, could have been its own software program considering the things I’ve seen them come up with (the community). Is this a problem? Yeah, it is for a good portion of the community that can’t afford Xbox Gold (teens that don’t have daddy’s card and adults that need money for other things.) But honestly, can you save 60 bucks? that’s like two restaurant dinners or like 6 Mcdonald’s meals. If you want something, you’ll get it. I got a second job so I could afford an Xbox One, Halo, and Gold. The time you spend on these forums could be spent learning a new thing, working extra hours or just you know, being creative. But that’s just my opinion, take it or leave it.
Over the holidays, I had to travel to my mom’s and stay there for an extended visit. She does not have internet access, and if she did it wouldn’t be good enough for pvp. Having more offline options is probably really good for people who may have more reason to be offline for various and/or extended periods of time.
But then, there should be LAN options, too.

Why does it have to be a map and why do I need to do anything with it? Sometimes it is fun just screw around and see what you end up with.

I am still trying to figure out how the first part relates to the question. But the second part has quite a few valid points that I like and will respond to: I have been saving my money for to pay for college tuition (even if it is only 60 cents it is still making college cheaper). As for what I am doing with my time school, homework, filling out 30 sheets of paperwork for my eagle scout project, swim team and college applications so I only renew my Xbox live gold in the summer, when don’t have to worry about any of this.

I’ll play Devil’s Advocate for a moment:
If you aren’t able to share your maps with other players, especially due to the lack of local splitscreen, why bother making the map in the first place? I mean, past pure artwork/sculptures and certain puzzle maps, Forge Maps are pointless without other people to play on them.
While I understand that the basis for the argument is that previous Halo Games allowed for Offline Forge, there isn’t really ang benefit for having an Offline Forge in Halo 5. The only time where it would positively affect Forge is in the event of a router malfunction or other such service-interrupting event. I’m not including Power Outages, since your Xbox would be shutdown as well as the router, so the point is moot.
