Is it because Halo needs a motion tracker in order to fulfill that authentic “Halo feel” since it’s been in every game? I remember Metal Gear Solid used to have a soliton radar, but now it’s nearly been done away with and that game is still amazing.
IMO, not having a motion tracker makes everyone equal. You don’t have to worry about moving around and being detected, everyone has to rely on their senses, and it promotes more ways to excel in our skill level rather than chasing red dots all day.
After all, you people say it’s worthless anyway, so what point is there to have it? If you’re asking to extend the range, that’s a definite no. Otherwise, you restore the fear of moving around, thus will make people crouch walk everywhere just to avoid being spotted every few seconds.
Are you out of your mind? I played Slayer Pro in previous Halo games, and not having a Motion Tracker turns the whole game into a random and awkward mess. Halo 5 is bad enough as it is with the Motion Tracker range being too short at 18m. It needs to be increased to 30m, like it was in the Beta.

What random and awkward mess are you referring to exactly?
If you extend the range that far, people are going to camp and crouch walk quite a lot.
It’s risk and reward, if you are always watching your radar you won’t ever get the first shot putting you at a huge disadvantage in every fire-fight.
If you never watch your radar you risk losing your prey or being ambushed.
At 18 meters it makes it harder to just watch it but not useless for avoiding ambushes and knowing where enemy Spartans are. It is perfectly balanced in my opinion.

i use the crap out of it, it helps me to stay moving and not have to stop and listen for footsteps. If i see someone behind me on the radar i can either evade them or ninja them…i have no issues with it whatsoever
To compensate for the terrible field of view, I’d say. Halo since 3 has gone for the stylistic approach of “looking through the neck hole of a turtleneck you haven’t finished putting on yet”, and a motion detector somewhat mitigates that.
I’d trade it for an adjustable FoV in a second though.

Its only a mess if your solo queing. No radar was standard on mlg because your team awareness and callouts negated the need.
Radar in team games is not needed, ffa maybe.
The problem is heaps of people solo que or run in twos in which case the radar is a massive help as you never know if randy is going to call out.
I prefer no radar at all but if we have to have it the way it is now at reduced range is better.

30m was too much. That’s why it was reduced. 18m seems rather short, but at least it helps counteract camping. It’s harder to camp with a shortened radar. The larger the radar, the more of a crutch it becomes.

Sorry for splitting hairs, but I don’t know as we can lay that entirely at the feet of the radar. After all, CE had a massive radar as well.
The only reason I see against this is it would give the kids with 150$ MLG headsets an advantage because of their ability to hear footsteps and the direction they were coming from. This was a huge advantage back in H2/H3 when radar was disabled for MLG, and was pretty dumb because nobody wants to have to shell out 100$+ just to be on a level playing field.

Then nerf the footsteps entirely. I would gladly like to have silent footsteps. However, not only is that another subject, but you’ll have the majority disagreeing with that idea as well.

Which part? Larger radar being a crutch or that larger radar promotes camping?
Well, OP, not everyone in the world is a tryhard Halo player that can hear the tiniest movements and know their location precisely where they are on the map. Just sayin’.
