Why do we care about Rank?

Whether it’s your SR Rank, or your placement in a certain playlist, I see alot of arguments about people trying too hard to win in social playlists and explaining their reasoning as to why the ranking system is broken. Or why they get screwed on REQs or whatnot.

What is your opinion on rank? Im asking because i’m starting a discussion, not trying to be a jerk or anything. Im asking because I’d like to know.

I play halo, sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, and most of the time I get my -Yoink- rocked…Thoughts?

Mm… I see overall SR ranks as how long you played. Beaten a team that had SR145s recently. :stuck_out_tongue:

Some people just like to see how good they are, and want to get better. Ranks give us a way to see that.

Rank is great though some developers need to really think with a open mind to improve ranking or innovate it completely! Common sense and Logic work the best to make everything better!

Lets me know how long ive played compared to tothers

I don’t care about rank these days, but when I did it was like a constant competition with myself. Everyday I got a little better and my rank helped me monitor that progress. It was never about bragging rights or what other people thought of me. It was purely for my own amusement. Those were good times.

Some people play because they enjoy the challenge of getting to those max ranks. My ultimate goal is to get to champion rank in FFA.

I agree with you.

yep that’s all it is really just the same in reach with inheritors

SR is the social portion that was available in past Halo games. Like CoD it only shows how frequently someone is playing. A playlist rank is just a snapshot of how the game believes I am performing at that point in time. Both will give a relative idea of the people you are playing with or against. A high SR will tell you that the person plays frequently while a high playlist rank will tell you the skill with which they do it.

Looking at it any further than external information by which to gauge the worthiness of an opponent/ally is meaningless.

I could not give any less of a -Yoink- about the litttle numbers next to my name.

This isn’t halo 3 anymore so ranking shouldn’t matter. if it did…why is it so much easier to beat a full fireteam of diamonds against gold and un-ranks?
It just a weird, broken system to give players something to focus on and Try to beat again next month. Improve ourselves.

Like the classic Arcade games, got a high score on pac-man, next day try to beat that high score.

There’s no rank to care about. Maybe if 343 wasn’t so concerned with hurting people’s feelings they would give us a real ranking system like Halo 2, Halo 3, MCC or do one like Reach did so it takes forever to get a high exp rank. Not 343 though, the big bad “innovators” of the game industry.

Honestly I’m not that fussed about ranks and such I just like playing and enjoying the game and that’s about it.

It’s ironic cause the people that care about rank the most are the ones who are the most vocal about ‘social’ playlists.

people just want the prettier symbol, makes them feel better about the amount of time they spend on the game

it shows skill bruh

Because I know if I show how cool and high, my SR, k/d, and CSR to a gurl then she will want to go out with me for sure and I can finally get out of my moms basement.

I prefer Reach’s actual ranking/reward system, from Private to General (& beyond). Buying your armor pieces as you go along.

I’m naturally competitive and liked to be recognized as a good player.
