I don’t get it. Sure, in 2 anniversary it was perfect and felt real, but Halo 4’s still sounded just like a weapon for me. A toy would be something like the needler, plasma pistol or boltshot in microtransactions 5. I could hear that in a cartoon, but try doing that with the battle rifle in 4. It’s way too out of place.
It doesn’t have enough BANG on it that you’d expect to hear from an actual gun, almost sounds like if the regular BR has a silencer on it in H4. If you YouTube Halo 4 BR sound and listen to it, then listen to an air soft gun they sound very similar.
Yeah it sounded kinda weak to me. When a game that came out in 2004 has better sound design for the BR than a game that came out in 2015… you need to rethink your sound design strategy. Bungie kinda killed it with the original BR sound, so I’m not sure why they didn’t keep it the same as they went forward. It was perfectly fine. Much as I have been saying in my criticisms of 343, sometimes Bungie fixed things that weren’t broken too, and I’m more than willing to criticize them for it as well.
hm so main thing for me is more that it doesn’t sound as good as the h2 variant. But I also somewhat want to defend it, and I do agree with you. Also I’ve never noticed that people say this.
It sounds nothing like a toy first of all, I would even argue that the Halo 3 BR sounds both weaker and more “toylike” than the H4 variant if I would be forced to think of it that way (maybe that’s just how I hear it).
Though for the record I still prefer H3s BR sound over H4 by far.
A thing Bungie did really well was creating gun sounds that were unique, they didn’t just sound like guns, because why would they sound exactly the same as modern guns? they are supposed to be guns that haven’t been invented yet. Maybe this was not always done purposely and sometimes had to do with limitations at the time, so I don’t know how much credit to give, but I still think it ads to the game.
With all respect this is something I wish 343 improved, there is a tendency of the UNSC guns sounding generic.
However that being said I do NOT think this applies to the H4 BR, the gun sounds unique, this would be fine for “another gun” (though we don’t need another burst weapon etc, but you get the point).
The problem for me is that it “doesn’t resemble”/“downgrades”/“changes” the already great sound which I already associate with that gun
So basically, not my favourite sound for the BR but not because it sounds like a toy, I disagree with that, I rather just think it doesn’t sound like an existing gun, which is a good thing.
I think it sounded weak compared to Bungie’s design. I believe that’s why it sounds like a “toy”.
It sounds too muffled to me, sort of like someone stuck a silencer or two on the muzzle. The BR sounds great in every other game, including H5. On a similar note though, 343i’s DMR sound in H4 was perfect so I don’t understand why they made it sound the way it does in H5… Not that the H5 DMR sounds bad or anything (I still like it), but it sounds weaker than the DMR in H4. And, as has been researched already, weapon sounds play a big role in how powerful a weapon is perceived to be.
I believe this is because of the approach that 343 took with the gun sounds and artstyle. The BR obviously looks much more detailed and Sci-Fi than the sleek military looking BR. With this hard approach of making Halo look more Sci-fi, the gun sounds may have been tweaked to match this. For me, it doesn’t sound like a toy. Instead it sounds more like a laser. It doesn’t sound aggressive and as intimidating as the prior BRs. It doesn’t get better in H5 either. The BR sounds less like the medium-range precision weapons of old, and instead sounds more like a machine with a silencer over it. However, sound design really doesn’t matter when it comes to in-game mechanics and it’s intended role.
En mi caso, no se de que hablan, para mi todos los sonidos son perfectos
Honestly it sounds more like a “deep sounding” laser gun than an actual gun that uses bullets. I think it has the weakest sound out of all the BRs in terms of sound design and weight. Though it may be my favorite look of the BR honestly, just not the sound.
It’s the cricket sounding BR.
It does sound like a toy a little bit though I still like the Halo 4

It doesn’t sound as heavy as the BR in 2, 3. Even Halo 5’s BR has that weird FAMAS sound I know it’s based off of it. But still.
Because it sounds like plastic hitting plastic but a little sound buffed and triple multiplied
Because it does? Also, the Magnum sounds like a bird chirping. Honestly a lot of the weapon sounds were really bad in that game.
it does sound like a toy. It sounds electric in a way and like it is shooting lasers and not bullets

I kinda agree with this, then again I think the BR just sounds like it is using magnets to propel the boolets
It sounds metallic and whats giving off the noise is the gun mechanics. Like a toy gun. It clicks and clacks when its shot. It sounds very soft and weak. The original br was the sound of bullets. The loud iconic booming of the bullets was the noise of a gun, the br.
It just sounds like a toy lmao, but it was a good weapon to use
The weapon has a sound as if Legos were dropped to the ground.
I don’t see how it sounded like a toy but the sound is annoying to me. Kinda like my dog vomiting but 3 pitches higher.
